The latest GFK Chart Track figures are in for last week and they make for some interesting reading if you're a Nintendo Switch fan. Sure, Monster Hunter World takes the top spot with Dragon Ball FighterZ coming in second, but both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild hold their own as first party exclusives on Switch.
Both titles dropped two places (with Breath Of The Wild dropping to number seven and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe moving to number six) they're still very much in the top 10. Outside, the big 10 Pokémon Crystal Version on 3DS debuts at number 12, while Super Mario Odyssey takes one of the biggest hits, moving from eighth position to 16. Still, a strong performance for the plumber, nonetheless.
Let us know what you make of this week's UK chart figures. Did they turn out how you expected?

Shocked about Odyssey but glad to see BotW still going strong
I don’t want to be one of those people who always wants a new direct, but besides Kirby, there isn’t too many heavy hitters who could continue this evergreen success like SMO MK8D & BOTW. Even then i don’t know if Kirby will be THAT successful
@Aaron09 I agree with you actually.
At the moment, Nintendo did not show anything "wow" to keep the momentum going.
Sure the Switch has already many games worth getting the console but I feel that not having any heavy hitter(s) before the mid of the year is not going to help Nintendo to reach the 20 million mark they desire.
I mean, PS4 and XB1 just got a brand new Monster Hunter and Dragon Ball FighterZ that will certainly take sales from the Switch.
I hope that in February we get to see a full Direct showing a lot more than what we have seen so far.
So different to the days of the Wii U, when a title might go in the top 10 for one week and then disappear forever.
They're the only 3 first party Nintendo games I own for Switch. In my opinion, every Switch owner needs them!....unless they really hate open worlds, platformers, and kart racers...it happens.
@Aaron09
Honestly, it would be a good opportunity to shore up interest in the third-party side of things. 2017 was the year of first-party triumphs but i think that 2018 could be the year when Nintendo turns things around when it comes to major third party successes.
People always say “I buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games,” but that has never been the case with me, and many others. I think that Switch is on the right track. It’s already more of a third party machine than Wii U ever was, and it will only get better.
I do agree, though, that a full Direct is going to need to happen sooner rather than later.
I mean, it's good that the Switch is doing great, but it's still a bit sad that neither of the two, new best selling games are available on Nintendo.
DBZ is particularly puzzling.
You didn't mention that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 made a reappearance back in the charts for the first time since its debut which is good to see, no doubt buoyed by the Argos and Amazon sale price last week.
@tourjeff I think the Switch has enough first party titles lined up for the first half of the year. There’s certainly no drought there. IMO it will ultimately come down to whether they can get an E-ticket game like Metroid Prime 4 or Pokémon Male and Female (working title) out by holiday season.
@Euler Oh yes, I'm not saying that the Switch won't have games on the first half of the year. There is a lot going on actually.
My point was that there is really no big titles announce for now so if someone is planning to buy a console they might opt for a PS4/XB1 for games like DB Fighterz and MH World, specially after the good reviews these games got.
I do hope, like you, that Nintendo has a big title planned for the holiday season, otherwise, they will never reach (or come close) to the sales they are planning to have.
I think what is missing now for us, consumers, to know are:
Announcements of more third party games.
Online system.
Announcement of a big title (or titles).
Im just glad XenoBlade2 is back on the list.
Capcom said MHW did 5million at launch so good chance it will have the top spot on everything at this point.
Nintendo needs to start showing big new games. This quarter is not very exciting.
@Aaron09 That’s what I’ve been saying all along. Nintendo came out swinging last year with so many excellent first party titles nearly every month, but now we haven’t had one since Xenoblade in early December and are waiting for Kirby in mid-March. And after that Mario Tennis is the only other new first party game with any kind of release window. Nintendo really needs to step it up with their own software this year.
I agree with those waiting for a Direct. Honestly, I already have enough great games to last me the year if need be so not too concerned about that but we are really lacking a first party big hitter or two for this year. Kirby and Mario Tennis are great and all but feel more like the filler than the major releases and the rest are all ports so I'm curious to see what else they have planned. Just say Animal Crossing and that's enough to keep me happy.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Why is it we have to rely on you to put up the whole charts and not have them in the original story? Thanks for that mate. But also, is there any way of getting the US charts? We never really get a clue as to what's going on there and VGChartz is so out of date.
@Samwise7 NL aren't allowed to post the entire chart. PushSquare displays the top 10 in the article which I find to be a nice solution.
@thesilverbrick And Mario Tennis isn’t exactly a big hitter either
@Shellcore Yeah totally. Top 10 or 20 would be a happy medium. They ask us what we think of the chart when we haven't seen it lol. And American chart anyone? There aren't ever any stories on NL about that. Like how does the Switch fare in the all format chats over there?
@Shellcore And yet other sites like GoNintendo and NintendoEverything post them every week.
Have a suspicion SMO drop was down to lack of availability, Amazon were selling through another seller at over £50 nearly all week, my 2 local Tesco were sold out, my local Game was sold out and Game online are selling via level99games all week at £55.
XC2 has been a similar story in terms of stock since a week or two after it released so it's great to see it back in the charts albeit driven by it selling at just under £30 at Argos and Amazon.
People, this is only January. The year has just begun. Don't be surprised when Nintendo pulls out more surprises out of their hat.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I concur with @Shellcore, I glance over the chart and eShop articles and head straight for your much more comprehensive posts in the comments. If you ever decide to open a Nintendo-based website let me know!
@Samwise7 The North American charts are....well locked behind a hefty paywall.
For Christ's /God's / Buddha's sake Nintendo Life ... present the charts in a LOGICAL, MODERN way!!!!
Man, more talk about this Mario Kart 8 Port that god knows why exists? Sooner they announce that it’s not at all discouraging a New Official Mario Kart game for the System with 16 NEW Nitro and Retro Tracks the sooner I’ll have a Switch myself, of which it would REALLY make my day. I’m as pleased as anyone to see NEW Mario Kart games that continue to amaze us on each and Every Nintendo System, this NEW Mario Kart game for the Switch Probably will even be one to have aspects from Super Mario Odyssey.
@Aaron09 You're right. Nintendo already played some of their biggest cards last year and they need to keep that going. A game like Animal Crossing or Smash Bros. for Switch would do the trick. A B-tier series like Mario Tennis (which isn't exactly in good standing after Ultra Smash) isn’t exactly going to push people to buy a new console.
@Samwise7 They can't exactly post the charts themselves as they'd clash with the article title. And 'Nintendo Switch games holding the coveted 6th and 7th places in UK charts and losing to a game available since 2013' wouldn't be a catchy of a title.

@Razzy
A whole lot of games are "losing" to GTAV, not just Nintendo titles.
Why are people worrying about the Switch's momentum? Yes a new Direct to map out more of the year would be very welcome but in the next few months it has Bayonetta 2, a Donkey Kong Country sequel and a Zelda spin-off that are new to the majority of people. They'll do well.
@CuriousUserX90
"Mario Kart 8 Port that god knows why exists? "
For the literally millions of people who've bought and are playing it I'd imagine.
@Razzy The article clearly states that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Breath of the Wild are 6th and 7th places, respectively. It also provides the link, so if you want to see the full chart, you can just click it.
@Razzy
Everything loses to GTA V fella. That isn't even worth commenting on.
@Yasaal I have a theory that Odyssey isn't as good of a game as people say it is. I think that BOTW holds up to its reviews and ratings, and that might influence people buying them. By word of mouth, I mean.
@Bentheblaze2390 I think the same as well. Odyssey felt ok to me, not at all at the point people consider it to be...
@Samwise7 you don't have to rely on anyone, Chart Track who compile the charts request that sites like @NintendoLife do not reproduce the charts in full and Nintendo Life do the decent thing and honour that request. There's a link right there at the end of the article, I have their site bookmarked myself. I see the All Format Top40, Individual Top40, there's a Value Top40 which shows revenue generated,
Switch, 3DS, Wii U and many other Top20 cbarts. People complain about this every single week without fail, I'd imagine they are beyond responding anymore and just let the likes of myself enjoy their article.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Good for them; we choose to instead abide by Chart Track's request not to post the entire chart.
@BanjoPickles I also agree a feb direct would be nice. But knowing Nintendo they could keep us waiting till March or even April. Or the feb direct could be a bayonetta and according to this spell check that isn't spelt correctly even though the internet says it is. I reckon this direct could troll u to almost the end 1 and 2 on switch will feature, then mobile and 3ds version then a winter release for 3 lol.
@Damo OK. You've edited my comment, but not indicated that you've done so or let me know. What is wrong with me posting images of my own Tweets? Numerous sites have been posting these charts for YEARS and I've never noted any C&D orders. How is it that they can do that without penalty, I post a couple of images and YOU delete them within HOURS? It's not exactly the 3rd secret of Fatima. It's helping people out.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The charts are copyrighted material. I deleted the images of the charts you posted.
If Chart Track were to take any kind of action, it wouldn't be against you but against Nintendo Life, the site where you posted the images.
@Damo I don't get this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at you personally. So if I transcribe the details into writing, can they do anything? But if I post a straight up image, they can, despite no evidence that they've ever done so? What if I doctor the photo so it's less recognisable? I'm going to e-mail someone about this tomorrow that may have a better answer.
Edit: It's the same story when it comes to the Japanese Charts. You don't publish them in full. Yet countless other sites do. Even the sites that you reference to for be it for Media Create or Famitsu figures have them in full and the hardware, but you don't, you just list token Nintendo related figures.
Edit: I've already asked someone how they can post these charts every week but you can't and edit someone who tries to be helpful. I'm going to ask UK Interactive Entertainment Association about this tomorrow as well.
The only mistake I think I made was not referencing them, which is fair enough, as I always reference where I've got any of my other news stories.
The fact that Dragon Ball games remain so successful surprises me. It really does. I know the series is really popular, but the games have never really impressed me greatly. Just fighters. There were a couple games on GBA I liked, because those felt more like adventure games. I guess the combo of popular series + popular genre(just a genre I don't like) is the reason.
Man, I'd like a Dragon Ball Action-Adventure open world RPG. Imagine flying around, collecting the Dragon Balls, fighting the Freeza corps or some other bad guys, leveling up, gaining new powers and attacks, etc. Treating the bad major bad guys like boss fights instead of just another character who has more health than you.
@electrolite77 Of course not everyone had a Wii U, but not everyone had a Wii either and so fourth, and they didn't port Mario Kart Wii. Sorry to have to say this, but the more talk there is of this Mario Kart 8 Port, the more I get moody, I'd be less moody once we're assured that it's not stopping the Switch from eventually having a New Mario Kart game with 16 NEW Nitro and Retro Tracks of what we've been glad to've seen on each and every Nintendo System. It would also be a Mario Kart game to have stuff from Super Mario Odyssey, like Mario Kart: Double Dash was the Gamecube's Official Mario Kart game that had stuff from Super Mario Sunshine.
Shame to see Odyssey drop like that, it’s a brilliant game despite being shorter than BotW.
@MartyFlanMJFan Thank you for clarifying!
@Samwise7 no problem
