It's been somewhat easy to forget in the current busy spell, but the Super NES Classic Edition (to use the North American name in this case) is out next week; it'll bring lots of retro goodness and the first official release of Star Fox 2.
Some of us have pre-orders good to go, while in some territories it'll be all about heading to stores and hoping for the best. For its part the Nintendo NY store has confirmed that it'll have a midnight launch party for 150 lucky gamers. Those that want to get in will need to get in line for 4pm (Eastern time) on 28th September and be among the first 150.
Are any of you planning to head into the big city for this event?

Thumpa thumpa, only VIPs to this party please.
And by 12:30 AM all units will vanish from the retail scene, leaving most of the world to wonder if they ever really existed in the first place.
Party like it's 1991!
@MonkiPlays 😂
They sell some awesome store-only shirts and hoodies of the in-game brands from Splatoon and Arms....I kinda wanna go buy more of those, and this makes me wanna go even more, haha.
The store’s like a 2 hour drive for me, but they’ve always got something tempting me back.
nintendo loves to have huge line ups for limited products, its a good photo op for marketing purposes. they treat fans like crap, and they have no honor for a japanese 'kid friendly' company
yet im hopeful this is changing and nintendo will have more confidence in the products they make and more respect for the fans that purchase them
I am so over this silly thing, and having to line up for hours and hours for the slight chance of even seeing one is ridiculous (some of us have jobs and lives you know).
There is a Best Buy next to my work. I will walk in there next Friday during my lunch to see if they have any. If they don't (they won't), oh well. I want to believe Nintendo when they say that these will be much easier to obtain than the NES Classic; if they're lying yet again, then there are much cheaper and more convenient ways to play these games.
Now imagine so in Poland in Europe, we have to pay officially 155$ for this machine.... because of Nintendo official dealer
I wonder if Nintendo might port the Super FX games for the Switch Virtual Console or this Classic Game Selection I have been hearing about?
Nintendo NY Store SNES Classic launch party exclusive: A SNES Classic.
Just in case of any misunderstandings - I'm sure the store will have 1,000 on Friday, the 150 is just for the midnight party. They had about 1,000 of the NES Mini - based on some really rough math I did of how long they had them in stock based on how many per hour they were selling until they ran out - so considering Ntinedo keeps talking up how many of these they are making there will be more than 150 SNES Mini at the store. You probably just can't buy them until Friday morning. We're still undecided on this one. It's ~$88 with tax, and we have $405 to lay out for the Switch Mario bundle 4 weeks later, choices have to be made.
Nintendo know people want this, and it seems they are right. Personally, I don't quite understand the appeal of these mini consoles. Is emulating the games on a Nintendo brand emulator that much different from using any other emulator, and buying a Snes controller usb adapter for a couple of dollars (and 1 or 2 controllers)? You could get all the games you want (even games not released in US and EU) I guess it's a nice collectible but it still isn't a real Super Nintendo.
@imgrowinglegs I was lucky enough to go there this past July when I visited NYC and was able to get a Switch. Such an awesome store and can't wait to get back there some day.
@Gex91 It's not functionally better, but there's still a world out there who is just not aware of all-in-one solutions. This is for them, and also the hardline fans who will buy everything Nintendo.
Personally, I'm not feeling it due to the game list being a little too RPG and first-party heavy so it's hard to say if I'd buy one if the list was more in my wheelhouse. I do think it's a nice little collectible, but that's about it.
It's been somewhat easy to forget because the press got hold of units a month ago so all the deets have come and gone.
I hope they have Super NES Classic Edition cupcakes at that party, I want to get some and resell them on eBay for a high price.
CND is going to be first in line for this
@retro_player_22 White Supremacist! Trying to get a tax break from Donald Trump, huh? You make me ashamed to be an American! I'm supporting SONY By choice! PLAYSTATION FOREVER!
I'm also supporting Sonic the Hedgehog, by vowing to pre-order Sonic Forces. I'm tempted to go to the local GameStop, just to call out on their bigotry and greed, and get beat up. Maybe I can get SEGA Genesis Flashback HD out of them for pity.
@Manjushri I'd say your 30 years experience is wrong this time. Several places have already leaked stores getting several times more units than they did NES classics. Some reports are out that some Targets will get 300 units.
@Tyranexx Well if it were partying like 1991 you'd end up going to the Toys R Us, Sears, Montgomery War, Fedco, BEST Products, K-Mart, and get a little preorder ticket. Back in the day, you got one of those by paying a portion up front, they'd feed that info back to Nintendo, and you were guaranteed a system that day (barring some random foul up.) Now sadly pre-order has turned into prey or pray-order depending how you look at it. Pray you can get one and that you're not prey to a scalper because pre-orders are randomly sold willy nilly and it guarantees nothing. Shame really.
I went there yesterday and saw CND
