If you've been watching a lot of gaming YouTube channels over the past couple of years you've likely come across Gang Beasts, a multiplayer game in which strange characters brawl and throw each other around, with quirky physics being a key feature. It's been on Steam early access for quite some time, though is still gradually moving towards a full release.
In addition to a full release on PC developer Boneloaf is targeting consoles, with a PS4 build in the works. The developer's co-founder - James Brown - has been speaking to Games Industry.biz about challenges bringing the game to Xbox One due to its 'parity' clause, and also highlighted the Nintendo Switch as an option that's being explored.
It's made clear that the small development team is keen on a Switch version, even buying a retail unit to try out the Joy-Con controllers. Conversations have started with Nintendo about getting development kits and approval, though clearly there's a long way to go.
We get asked for the Switch and we are talking about it but there are certain things behind the scenes that we need to do - like optimising the characters - in order to hit that platform.
Would you like to see Gang Beasts on the Nintendo Switch eShop?
Thanks to all that sent this in.

I watched the Grumps (I think) play it some time ago, looks like a hilarious time with a friend.
Fun but need online to be implemeted fully first.
Got baited into thinking it was included for any purchaser instead of only certain ones back then and it annoys me.
Maybe, but I'm just not sold watching that.
Yes please. This looks great.
Kids will love it
That trailer looks oddly funny.
This, Towerfall, Nidhogg 2, and Stardew Valley please.
Watch GameAttack on Youtube play it. Its a perfect party game for a console you can bring to a mates house and set up with the desktop mode.
Looks like grand fun with friends and family as well as a perfect fit for the Switch due to its mobile multiplayer aspect. Never actually played, though, just watched Jacksepticeye and the Game Grumps play it.
Looks hilarious but if it lacks online - its basically useless to me.
It needs online if the Switch version has it I will buy, if no...I'll pass.
@ieatdragonz Online should work if you run it in Beta mode or something like that on Steam.
Gang Beasts is HILARIOUS and I would buy a Switch version on day one, assuming it comes out after I get a Switch - still got my Wii U catalogue to get through at the moment!
Looks like an interesting game and fits well with the Switch. And DoubleFine has a good history.
Though from just watching this it does look a little "sandboxy" I can't help but feel it's the video game version of a kids playset. A great way to get the kids to sit in the corner and not bother the grownups for a few hundred hours, (or to get the somewhat more than slightly inebriated grownups at a party to do the same) but nothing with meat on it to sink your teeth into.
Looks like a lot of fun, especially if there's a couch co-op mode. If not, I probably wouldn't end up buying it.
Wasn't this played on Go 8 Bit? It looked pretty fun to me.
wait what
I've been watching giant bomb play this for the past 5 years or so; can't believe it's still in beta.
Day one on Switch for me.
Skipping for good.
Love on PC, Switch would be perfect for something like this
@KirbyTheVampire The standard method of gameplay is couch co-op. I haven't played the game in a long time, but it was pretty fun. I should check it out to see how much it has improved over the past year or two.
I'd definitely buy Gang Beasts on my Switch!
Man I would love for this game to be on Switch! Really want to play it, and portability would be a plus.
I've played this like two or three years ago, how is it still not released?
This game is barebone and not a single thing is finished.
Doesn't feel good when you control it, looks hilarious but isn't, menus are worthless, bugs are everywhere, no good online implemented...
It looks like they started to work on it a few months ago, but noooo, there's apparently years of development behind it.
And there I was thinking they abandoned it...
They should try to finish the game before trying to port it.
I'm betting this game will never be finished, being one of those games "now that it's in early acess and people are buying it, we can take our time".
Looks hilarious. I'd get it
What an odd game. I just don't understand it, so I already lost interest. Although it does look very funny at times.
I remember watching this being played on Videogame Nation before it ended; looks very fun. I'd happily play this on Switch.
I'd ask for a working online portion that doesn't suck the life out of me before you guys consider a console release. We all know how much people love early access on consoles.
Eh, sausage party? Anyway, looks like lovely dumb !
@Haru17 stardew valley has been confirmed for the switch
a few weeks ago it will be the first console to have the new multiplayer mode i think
Seems semi-horrible. Why would I ever pay for an unfinished game of this caliber, let alone desire to see it on Switch. I'll stick to non-broken games that have a point.
I just made a account for the soul purpose of telling you that It is so perfect for the switch. Please put it on the switch
Please port it on the switch me and my 3 other friends would have a lot of fun with it I’ve already played it on my friends ps4, it was a blast!
I have the game on steam and it was fun to play with my friends, I would gladly pay for it again on my nintendo switch
