Level-5's 3DS RPG Youkai Watch Has Now Sold One Million Copies In Japan

Posted by Damien McFerran

Sales have doubled in the last two months alone

New reports suggest that Level-5's 3DS title Youkai Watch has shipped one million units in Japan.

The game launched in July last year, but it wasn't until the transmission of the related anime TV show in January that sales began to spike; in February, Level-5 confirmed that it had delivered 500,000 units to retailers. Since then, shipments have doubled — an impressive achievement for a game which was launched almost a year ago.

This increased momentum should bode well for Youkai Watch 2, which is coming to Japan in July.

Although the series is exclusive to Japan at the moment, Level-5 has already trademarked the name in North America and has previously asked if western players would be interested in getting their hands on it:

Bumper sales will only increase the chance of a western release, but are you looking forward to playing this? Let us know with a comment.

It's been amazing watching the sales this year. A lot of games have legs and stick around for ages, but I don't think I've ever seen a games sales go up like that. Regularly getting into the top 3 on the chart this long after release is insane!

Man, I'm hitting a point that I will start
yelling to Level-5 because there is no reason to take so long to bring Yo-Kai Watch to USA since Japan will receive the 2nd game, I hope they change don't do like Inazuma Eleven, Japan receive the 1st in 2008 and USA, 2014.....

I would love it if this came out this year, especially with the 3DS' thin post-summer lineup
