Disney Interactive has revealed that its Disney Infinity video game and toy range will be launching in August instead of June, as was originally planned.
August 18th is the proposed launch date in North America, with other regions getting the game two days later.
Speaking to The New York Times, Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants said that the decision was made after consultation with retailers, who apparently wished for a release closer to the lucrative holiday season, when video game sales are traditionally more robust.
Pleasants added:
The date became an issue in terms of them asking, ‘Is there a better opportunity here?’...We could deliver in June if we wanted to. Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.
While this move will no doubt dismay some players, Disney Interactive's investors are likely to be more annoyed. The company is fighting to overcome a disappointing sequence of financial results, and the delay of Disney Infinity — expected by industry experts to challenge Activision's incredibly popular Skylanders series — will push a potential turnaround even further into the future. "This will definitely impact our goal of achieving profitability for the year,” admitted Pleasants.

I feel like Disney Infinity has great potential if 'done right', so it's probably for the best that it has been delayed. Hoping they won't fulfil their promise of churning out a new game every year - sounds like a recipe for disaster.
The extra 2 months is to figure how much more they can charge per figurine and still get people to buy.
If it means they to offer than what's been presented (Cars... ugh. XP), the delay is welcome.
@XCWarrior Pretty good.
This is a kids game. Kids go away to camp and to beaches and family vacations starting in June, they aren't looking to buy video games. August is a better choice.
We aren't buying regardless.
Lets hope it's good then.
Cue the famous Miyamoto quote:
"A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever."
The delay is a sign they want to do a good job. Here's hoping that the money spent on figures doesn't go to waste.
You mean "More Gadgets and Toys?"
@AlexSora89 Except that's not why they delayed the game, they delayed it to please retailers.
@TwilightV Cars is a great movie.
Meh...Juni was the beginning of the summer vacation. I would actually have something to play but no they pushed it back...
This is possibly the only time when the phrase "add bells and whistles" could be interpreted literally in the video game industry.
They are currently adding bells to dalmation and aristocrat toys and whistles to the cars
@Five-seveN
But I was really excited for this game...Also im a huge Disney fan and I could play this game with my nephwes who are coming over. And maybe im going to Disney in July so if Infinity launched in Juni I could buy maybe some exclusive figures in the park?..
And wow I really need to work on my English...
Bells and Whistles, the names of the two heroines in this year's next Disney blockbuster.
I am not a FAN of these figurines. The characters should be in the game by default you shouldn't need to buy a plastic toy so you can use that character in the game. I seen video footage of a Pokemon rumble U. I was shocked by the poor visuals.
It shouldn't be on Wii U it doesn't take advantage of the hardware. The Plastic toys are made out of triangles as if they are made out of a very low polygon count.
