A Peek Into The Tragically Unobtainable World Of Dragon Quest X

Taking the quest online

In an utterly baffling move, Dragon Quest X — the most recent game in the iconic RPG series — is not only import-only but also IP blocked, meaning the game will refuse to work for all legitimate users trying to play from outside Japan. I won't be paying either also there should be no need for micro transactions unless its just for extra currency etc.

Seriously. A fee. This looked like the coolest game at the time I got my Wii U.

UM - THIS SAYS "Release Date 2014 USA" ??

"GAME STATUS - CONFIRMED BY SQUARE ENIX" also appears on this page

is it really coming? DQX - on the Wii-U - for the USA?

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE! Now if we could just DQ7 on the 3DS I will hit cloud 9!

@AshFoxX SquareEnix did say some changes woud be made to the North America version. Maybe they'll make it free to play but offer purchasing of currencies or equipment to those who are too impatient enough to earn it.

AshFoxX said:

@PMarsh I don't like MMO's because they are a very different flavor of RPG than a traditionally single player experience. Its hard to imagine you are making a difference when you see a hundred other players doing the same quest and they look like you, free subscription or not. This is what turned me off Final Fantasy too.

PMarsh said:

@AshFoxX You're free to make your own opinion, but no doubt it'll boost Wii U sales which is what Nintendo needs right now.

AshFoxX said:

@PMarsh I know a lot of folks are happy about it and a sales boost is always good. I am a little different and won't be getting this, but a lot of people will. Hopefully my thirst can be quenched if they return to basics for XI.

PMarsh said:

@AshFoxX I feel you. Hopefully XI is released in the West quickly. That's the one qualm I have with X, localization of a massive MMO takes a long time.

Yew, I know right!? I also saw Release date:2014 (USA) I started breathing heavily from shock and surprisment too. I was like OH MY GOODNESS, OH MY GOODNESS, OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS! If this is a lie...IF THIS IS A FREAKIN' LIE...

DragonQuestXD said:

Hopefully, there's no subscription fee. I've heard that since subscription fees are kind of a thing of the past for western gamers that there might not be one for Dragon Quest X when it arrives. Or Dragon Quest XI, whichever we get.

otakuidoru said:

I'd GLADLY pay any subscription fee if it gets localized!! since you have all those features that are in the jpn version
but only if its no more than $10-12

beaks said:

@DudeSean since its on the Wii U, you will never have to pay for online. Nintendo is known for free online games.

DudeSean said:

@beaks Even though this game is on the Wii U, it's not made by Nintendo. And you do have to pay to play online, but I don't think this game is coming out in the U.S. so it doesn't matter anyway.

MyGamerXP said:

It's a shame this doesn't appear to be coming out in the UK :-/
Although the pay to play thing kinda sucked anyway...

I love Dragon Quest but I'd rather see something like DQVIII remastered for the Wii U. Even getting the original trilogy released outside Japan would be great. I can't complain though. I heard there's going to be a Dragon Quest game done like Dynasty Warriors. If it doesn't make it overseas then I'll be importing it.

SilverSeraph said:

Still waiting for this. I was so excited. What a disappointment. But hey, we got the upteenth versions of FF 3, 4, 7, and 8 on Steam!! And don't forget all those wonderful DQ games for iOS and Android, because mobile!!!

Thaswizz said:

Ill be picking this up for sure if its released in US which is seeming more n more likely. Fees are a small thing for great MMOs , dunno if itll be great, but being able play on my WII U will be awesome. Hopefully i hear more before elder scrolls online comes out on xbox one.

I'm really hoping there is a sub. I've been playing MMOs for over ten years, and when you compare one with a sub (FFXI, or WoW) to ones that are F2P (ArcheAge, etc) You can see a huge difference in communities, the F2P ones being mostly toxic. Also in most F2P games you run into the issue of ppl being able to use micro transactions to gain advantages, which ruins the game for anyone not emptying their wallet. I'd rather pay the $13 a month, and skip going out to eat for lunch at the office to better enjoy the game, level the playing field, and keep the community from getting out of hand.

Hope this is still coming west, would love to play this, been a while since a DQ game for me, not since the DS lite.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we're in September of 201 right now and we still have not heard a single thing about this game. And we never will. So... yeah. Forget about it - it's just not happening.
