Topic: Prepaid VISA Card To Buy WiiWare Games?

Sorry to ask a stupid question and I hope I am posting this in the right forum. I just bought my brother's Wii U and was exploring the eshop. Then I found a few old Wii games I want to buy from the online shop. I found the WiiWare shop using the Wii menu and I understand the concept of points and that the prepaid cards I use on my 3DS do not work to buy these games on the Wii U.
I also do not want to enter my credit card info to buy these few games. The few remaining Wii Point cards for sale on ebay are too expensive.
Has anyone had good luck using a prepaid Visa card to buy Wiiware games? I know they also charge $5.00 or so for the cards, that is ok by me. I just dont want to find out it wont work after I buy the card.

Thanks for your help!

You can use eshop cards in the Wii menu to buy games they just convert the dollars to points. So a 5 dollar eshop card would be 500 Wii points. But make sure you enter it on the Wii mode in the Wii shop cause points cannot be transferred between Wii mode and Wii U eshop.

@Tasuki: Have you actually tried doing this? I was under the impression eShop cards would not work in the Wii shop. If they do, though, I'm gonna start doing this, as I can buy eshop cards tax free around here.

@Tasuki: Like brooks83 I would also like to know if you have done this. If so that would be fantastic. I live in New Hampshire which has no sales tax so the eshop cards are also tax free. I use them all the time with my 3DS. I too read online and even on Nintendo's own website that the eshop cards will not work that way.

@Tasuki Unless Nintendo has changed things now that Wii Points cards have gone the way of the Dodo? I did try it a few years ago and it didn't work though.

@DarthNocturnal: Thank you for that info. As I have never used a Visa prepaid card I was not aware of the zip code requirement. I am familiar with all sorts of store prepaids, I use them on Amazon all the time to keep charges off my credit card.
I did read a post about Vanilla prepaid Visa's. Are they still available or are there newer brands of prepaid Visa's?

@Tasuki: Are you serious that eshop cards will work on the Wii shop channel?

Sorry for the late reply guys I was playing Black Ops 3, but yes you can use Eshop cards in the Wii menu. I did a few months ago to get Rondo of Blood on the Wii VC under Wii mode.

Well I want to at least confirm that Darth was correct. I bought a $20.00 Vanilla brand prepaid Visa card at Walmart today. Came home and got on the Wii U, went to the Wii Shop Channel and indicated that I wanted to buy Wii points using a credit card. It asked how many (2000 for $20.00) and then all I had to do was enter the 16 digit number, the expiration date and the 3 digit security code on the back. Next screen asked for my city, state, zip code and country.
Voila', I now have 2000 points without having to give up my credit card info.
Like Darth said, it is essential that you provide your zip code to the prepaid card issuer. In my case I called the 1-800 number, and was prompted to enter my zip. You must do this to use it online.

So thanks again DarthNocturnal

I may have to try this.
I want to buy some Wii VC games, but with the exchange rate right now, it kills. (I'm in Canada). I may try and find a $5 eshop card (if they even sell those) and see what happens.

@komodo182: I have never seen an eshop card under $10. Those are the ones I usually buy

I bought a $10 eshop card last night and it wouldn't work in the Wii shop channel.
