Topic: Wii locking up...can't get online!

I know it wasn't the last update that killed it, because that was ages ago. Within the past week I've been able to play Kart/Brawl online, send/receive Wii Music videos, download Bubble Bobble Plus, and...well, that might be it. But that's a lot. So within the past few days this problem must have taken root.

What happens is that I'll click on Wii Shop Channel, or Internet Channel, and the TV screen will go black, the Wii's fan will stop running, and the lights on my Wiimote go out, indicating--I guess--disconnection. If I press anything on the Wiimote the lights flash, but it never connects. The Wii never comes back on. I need to hold the power button to turn it off, then turn it back on again.

Those are the only channels that cause trouble, from what I can tell, and they're both internet related. If I click the channel, I get the intro screen alright. But then I'll click "start" and that's when everything goes down.

Has anyone had this trouble before? What can I do to fix it? It's not low system memory...I have 500-odd blocks empty. (Is that too little? I could have sworn I had much less left on my console before the SD card fix came along.)

Help the chicken!

Is it a recurring problem? If so I would call Nintendo.

Recurring as in the past two/three days, yeah. Before that no issues. Now it seems pretty constant though.

Games (downloaded and disc) seem to work fine, though every so often I'll need to load a disc two or three times to get it to read.

Can it read Brawl just fine? Does all Wi-Fi stuff not work? Can you get on Brawl or Mario Kart Wi-Fi?

Well, try turning off WiiConnect24 to see if that changes things, though I expect you would get an error if that's the issue.

Try turning off WIICONNECT24. It could help but probably won't. You could also try to get the lan adapter and use wired internet.

Sounds like a damaged Wi-Fi module. Apparently they can be replaced; I know Team Twiizers can do it. EDIT: Casle Hominid made a good point. Try a LAN adapter maybe.

Believe it or not, I always use a LAN adapter. No Wi-Fi here for me.

I guess I'll try switching off Wii Connect 24.

Haven't tried Brawl/Kart again to see if it works. I'll have to dig those out and check.

This is sad news.

Call Nintendo, they may or may not fix it for free

i have had this happen to me, but not that often

i usually just unplug the power cord when it goes black, then plug it back in, turn it back on and it works fine
u can give my technique a shot

You deserve this for starting the whole "Ban __" thread fad. Karma's a butch. Wait, I think I got that wrong.

Well, then get yourself an Apple Airport and use that -- what do you live in a lead-lined flat or something?

hey, now... there ain't nothin' wrong with using a LAN adapter, especially if your Wii and TV are set up right next to the router and a computer station anyway. that way you get your game and your GameFAQs all in the same place. :3

Isn't there a USB ethernet adapter for the Wii? That would seem to be better than WiFi if you have it that close to your router...

Doesn't seem to be a "connection" issue as I can now confirm that Wii messages, music videos, Miis...all that stuff can be sent and received without any issue. I was also able to participate in a Mario Kart tournament last weekend. It's just the shop channel and internet channel.

What the heck could the issue be? Should I redownload the Wii system software? Can I even do that?

Also, have you done any homebrew at all?
And have you used AnyRegionChanger?

Philip_J_Reed

No...never any homebrew or mods of any kind. I'm pretty by-the-book when it comes to expensive electronics. (That's a polite way of saying I can't afford to replace them.)

I guess I could send it back to Nintendo, but that seems like such a waste when the problem is only to do with Shop/Internet Channels. I'd redownload the internet channel if I could get into the shop, but I can't.

Right now I'm fine, but something tells me I'll be disappointed when Icarian, Cave Story, and Bit.Trip: Core start coming out...

ahum do u have a modded wii? this can cause this also you might of got an update from the wrong region this can lock things up like the wii shop

Are you launching the internet channel from your SD Card?

Check the post directly above yours, toby bob.

@metakirbyknight:
Nope, the Internet channel is on my Wii itself, not the SD card. If the Internet Channel were out of commission it wouldn't be a huge loss to me...but the shop channel is a biggie.
