Well I love the hammer, but if this game is like it's successors I'll be using what ever is the best available to get the job done. Trying for a Soldiers sword for the poison attribute atm /sigh. Darn you Vespoids.

I've yet to get this, but I'll probably get it saturday.
Are there any quick weapons? In all the trailers it seems like the weapons are all big and slow.
The sword and shield are relatively quick, at the trade off that they are generally weaker than the other weapons.
Speaking of, SnS is what I'm currently using, but I haven't really tried anything outside of the demo. The Lance was pretty fun to use, but a bit unwieldy. The Switch-axe was also pretty fun, as was the long sword.
Gah, this is hard. I think I'll just use them all evenly.
A hammer offcourse! Nothing as fun as smashing a monsters face with it's own skull.
And a switch-axe as second weapon. It's pretty hard to cut of tails and such with a hammer (altough you also need to sharpen them... what's the point in that?)
I have a quick question, how do I keep various weapons? For instance, I started with SnS, then bought a long sword, then bought and still using the lance. Where do/did my previous weapons go? If I still have them, how do I equip them? (I`m new to MH.)
@Chucko - Back in Moga Village you've got a room (hidden behind a red-and-yellow curtain) that contains a box. Inside this box is all your armour and weapons, and you can switch things from there.
I just made a hammer today and proceeded to smash Royal Ludroth's face in with it. Mighty satisfying, but it's not going to be sharp enough to make much of a dent on Gobul. Difficult decisions ahead!
Thanks pro. I plan on upgrading my lance soon. It`s a fun weapon and it works well on all sizes of monsters(for me at least). Need to get some better armor as well.
Being new to the MH world, I'm playing with the bowgun and having a blast. (no pun intended).
I have a question, though. I see that a lot of people switch weapons based on what they're hunting. Should I branch out to other weapons or can I stick with the bowgun for most/all of the monsters out there?

I`m new to MH as well. I find that the SnS works marvelously on smaller monsters and the bigger stuff(GS, lance, hammer) works better on bigger monsters. That`s just me, though.

Bowguns are just like other weapons: you may need to switch to another variety of it to conquer certain enemies, but you have the versatility of being able to change ammunition to suit the task at hand. I'd say stick with a Bowgun if you like it and look into its different ammo capabilities, but it never hurts to have a great big sword as a backup at home!

I'm thinking that the key to playing online co-op is developing specialist skilz in one or two weapons in order to make up a balanced party.
I like the look of that huge axe thingy and the bow gun.
