The reason people call Wii bad is because they think it's for babies, which angers me a lot, seeing as there's plenty of stuff for the hardcore crowd to enjoy on Wii (Resi 4, Mega Man 9 & 10, Madworld, HOTD:Overkill). What we need is a HARDCORE game that EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT Mega Man 9 & 10 were download games. Resi 4 wasn't an exclusive. Madworld and HOTD barely sold anything. We need a popular, console exclusive, hardcore game on Wii.

Ok. How does a hardcore game get noticed in the first place?

Advertisements, word of mouth, mostly lots of frequent headline news on gamesites, doing something absolutely outrageous so it hits headline news on non-gaming media.

The Xbox 360's top 10 selling games of all time have 4 Call of Duty games in them! What's significantly different from each of them?!
Different maps, different feel, lots of balancing tweaks (which is extremely important in competitive games). My brother could tell you more, he's played them all and hates all but Modern Warfare 3 by now.

It's funny how some FPS fans tend to insult Nintendo and when you ask them something like, "How is Black Ops 1 different from Black Ops 2?", that's when they get all defensive.

However, I think that there are few AMAZING games on it - that's the problem. The 360 and PS3 (from what I hear) each have their fair share of absolutely brilliant games, as well as many other excellent games covering a variety of genres.
In contrast, the Wii has a small number of standout games, and then a whole bunch of very good or excellent games that don't quite make it 'classic' status. There's nothing wrong with that, but in this day and age of "anything that doesn't get 90+ on Metacritic is bad", the Wii doesn't stack up that well to the other consoles when using that as a judge of quality.
Also, as Mickeymac said, you look at the "Top X" games for Wii and it's always the same few. That also gives the impression of few quality games. To even really hear about the others, you'll need to go looking.

Metacritic isn't absolute. Little King's story had a lower metascore than 90 but that game was definitely amazing to me. The Tales of series are also good examples of why Metacritic shouldn't be looked upon as the deciding factor of how good a game is as they always receive far more praise from gamers than they do from critics. Also, the reason why its always the same few when looking up Top X games for Wii is because of the many overlooked games for the console like the aforementioned Little King's story.

Bad example. Black Ops 2 is obviously different from the first one. Different setting, different weapons, look, plot, etc. A better example would;ve been Modern Warfare 2 to Modern Warfare 3, which I have yet to see much of a difference between. Better maps and a few rebalanced Perks, yet somehow my bro swears that Modern Warfare 2 sucks in comparison to 3. :/

Umm...what about gameplay?

What about the gameplay? Yeah, it's still a realistic shooter like it's always been. That genre doesn't allow for much variation, only tweaks and improvement, and we won't know how it's improved until it comes out. I'm just saying, Within the confines of the genre, it's an obviously different game. I actually think games like New Super Mario Bros. are very samey even in comparison, because they're platformers. You can do a million different things with platformers, so it's sad when they don't do more to think outside the box, outside of just different levels and slightly new mechanics that don't really change up the established formula. Even things such as a simple art style change can drastically change your perception of the game, the way a new setting can in a shooter.

It might depend on what the Xbox 360 & PS3 does best and what the Wii does best.

I can confirm that a lot of hardcore gamers knew about it but ignored it and then complained about the lack of mature games on Wii anyway.

So why are both HOTD: Overkill and RE4 considered hardcore? because there's blood and zombies in them? lol Where's the mention of Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Zelda Skyward Sword,Wario Land Shake it, Zack & Wiki, Paper Mario, SSB Brawl, NSMBWii, Kirby's Epic Yarn, DKCR, A boy & his Bob, Klonoa ect ect? These are all technicaly brilliant games, but they're not considered 'hardcore' to many gamers because they aren't dark, there aren't blazing with guns, no goopy blood and guts to be seen, ect ect My perception on 'hardcore' is a lot different than what kids think of it as today.
Anyways, the people complaining that the wii is for Babies 'are' babies. I always thought stuff like Call of Duty and Gears of War were for babies while Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man and the like were for the Golden Age gamers of the past who experienced it all from the beginning. Brilliant level design and platforming that's simply put unmatched. II hate to use the word 'hardcore' because like Wariowoods pointed out in another thread/article Nintendo is a TOY company, videogames are toys plain and simple and the word 'hardcore' sounds like crap being spewed out buy some 'trying to be macho' 10 year old.
Mario, Zelda, Metroid and many other nintendo franchises are legandary, they started it all basically, so to call these franchises not hardcore makes these certain people look like uninformed clueless kiddies. It seems like most of the NES/SNES gamers appreciate the Wii much more than the N64/GCN/PS2/XBOX era gamers. The VC obviously plays a large role as well, and of course the RetroRebIrth.
I've found too many good games on the Wii to count, can't say the same for the N64(especially) and GCN.

I couldn't agree more. If the term 'hardcore' is going to be used, the criteria for a hardcore game shouldn't be for it to look gritty and realistic, it should be games that provide challenging and/or deep experiences. This is the reason I hate all this talk about the Wii U bringing back the core gamers. Not only did the Wii clearly have a lot of core games if the term is being used how it should be but from all this talk about the Wii U bringing back core gamers, Nintendo and games journalists seem to have recognised the way the term 'harcore games' is being used and seem to think that the sort of people who only play these gritty, realistic games that think the Wii is crap and only for casual gamers are the people that the term harcore gamers should be related to. I wish that either the term hardcore gamers would get dropped or it would be used in a better way.

Current Playthroughs: Xenoblade Chronicles, Okami, Red Steel 2, Eternal Sonata, SMW 2: Yoshi's Island, TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy IV, Phantasy Star IV, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and TLoZ: Spirit Tracks.
Yeah the term 'HARDCORE' has been construed and abused over the last 10 years because I consider myself to be true hardcore in the sense that I have owned just about every system from Atari all the way to now and enjoy all types of games from point n click text adventures all the way up to shooters so there is pretty much a broad spectrum we are dealing with when considering the definition of said term. Gamers that just play FPS are definitely not hardcore in my big book of bullcrap (brain)

It's even funnier that 4 of the all time best-selling Xbox 360 games are Call of Duty titles.
