Why are there assumptions about the Wii not having many good games? Is it because it's only the first-party titles that make it good? Or is it perhaps you don't know it's library well enough?

Of course it has many good games other than just the first-party titles, and here's why:

Below is a list of good Wii games, at least some of which you either may or may not be aware of. I decided not to include WiiWare and Virtual Console games because those would need it's own lists.

Here's the recipe for this video: 0:03 - Wii Sports; 0:18 - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess; 0:33 - Super Paper Mario; 0:48 - Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition; 1:02 - Metroid Prime 3: Corruption/Metroid Prime Trilogy; 1:15 - Super Mario Galaxy; 1:23 - Super Mario Galaxy 2; 1:32 - Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure; 1:45 - No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle; 1:58 - Mario Kart Wii; 2:15 - Wii Fit; 2:30 - Okami; 2:45 - Super Smash Bros. Brawl; 2:58 - De Blob; 3:12 - Disaster: Day of Crisis; 3:27 - Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars; 3:41 - Madworld; 3:55 - Excitebots: Trick Racing; 4:08 - Little King's Story; 4:21 - Punch-Out!!; 4:37 - Boom Blox and Boom Blox Bash Party; 4:50 - Muramasa: The Demon Blade; 5:03 - Dead Space: Extraction; 5:16 - Rabbids Go Home; 5:29 - New Super Mario Bros. Wii; 5:43 - Silent Hill: Shattered Memories; 5:57 - Red Steel 2; 6:12 - Monster Hunter Tri; 6:25 - Sin and Punishment: Star Successor; 6:40 - Metroid: Other M; 6:54 - Epic Mickey; 7:08 - Kirby's Epic Yarn; 7:22 - GoldenEye 007; 7:36 - Donkey Kong Country Returns; 7:51 - The Conduit 2; 8:05 - The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword; 8:20 - The Grinder; 8:34 - Xenoblade Chronicles; 8:51 - The Last Story; 9:05 - Credits.

Other Good Wii Games: A Boy and His Blob, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Battalion Wars 2, Bit Trip: Complete, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, FIFA Soccer 2012, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Fortune Street, Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, Geometry Wars: Galaxies, Guitar Hero 5, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Link's Crossbow Training, Mario Party 8 & 9, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Super Sluggers, Mercury Meltdown Revolution, NBA 2K12, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Opoona, Pikmin 1 & 2, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, Rayman Origins, Resident Evil: Archives/Chronicles, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Rune Factory: Frontier, Scarface: The World Is Yours, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Colors, Super Mario All-Stars: 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, The Beatles: Rock Band, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, The House of the Dead: Overkill, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Trauma Center/Trauma Team, WarioWare: Shake It! & Smooth Moves, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort.

I liked the old title more. We haven't had an "Obscure Wii game" Thread in about 9 months. (Please note, TBD has an unofficial 6 month policy - if an old thread hasn't had a new post in over 6 months, usually it's okay to make a new one)

On-Topic. People say that about anything if they aren't willing to put in the effort to find the stuff they might like. A lot of people would rather have those games force-fed to them and won't think to actually look for stuff. Sometimes it can be daughting (I'm trying to find some good comic books, and the search is turning out poorly so far), but for games, it's pretty easy since you can look up reviews and videos (without spoiling the whole thing like you would with a movie trailer).

Doesn't talk about games.

Is that the old title you were talking about? Don't worry, the video above doesn't really spoil anything since each game only has a few seconds of screen time. Thank you for allowing me with the thread by the way. :)

I wasn't sure if you searched and found that your thread was already made and decided to change it before the mods found it. (Like I said, there was an obscure Wii game thread, but it's old) :P Plus, like I said, it's unofficial, not everyone knows about it so I thought that tip would help some people.

And the trailer part was just conjecture. I know people who avoid them at all costs, no matter what they're for, because movie trailers spoil too many movies. It doesn't work that way for games, usually.

I completely agree with this. The Wii is my favourite console yet there are so many ignorant people who say that the Wii is crap for core gamers and only good for casual games when there are various videos on youtube like the one you posted that showcase the mass of awesome games that the Wii has.

I remember this awesome video where some guy where he basically just stared at the camera and showed random Wii games for like 3 minutes without saying anything. It was pretty awesome.

The Wii does have good games, that's undeniable.

However, I think that there are few AMAZING games on it - that's the problem. The 360 and PS3 (from what I hear) each have their fair share of absolutely brilliant games, as well as many other excellent games covering a variety of genres.

In contrast, the Wii has a small number of standout games, and then a whole bunch of very good or excellent games that don't quite make it 'classic' status. There's nothing wrong with that, but in this day and age of "anything that doesn't get 90+ on Metacritic is bad", the Wii doesn't stack up that well to the other consoles when using that as a judge of quality.

Also, as Mickeymac said, you look at the "Top X" games for Wii and it's always the same few. That also gives the impression of few quality games. To even really hear about the others, you'll need to go looking.

I used to have a blog link here. I'll put it back up when the blog has something to read.

...honestly, I can't name any amazing games on my 360 and PS3, either. Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces f are close, but those are Tales of Games, handhelds asside, they're always amazing. :P Dark Souls maybe? That'd be it for me, I guess. Even the best aren't as good as the best from last generation, IMO. The best games and most variety were all on handhelds, IMO.

I technically wasn't implying that it had bad games. I'm implying that it has great games. Notice the "?" in the topic. Also, who needs to look when you can look at the video above for great Wii games?

I've actually played all those games you named and found some to be good-but-not-great (Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean), and the rest to be utterly mediocre. A lot of them are sub-par sequels, too. But agree to disagree and all that...

I've found a surprising number of games were very overrated on 360, particularly before 2009. And not in a way where "oh I don't like it but I get why others do", and not just as hype backlash, because I make fun of popular things I haven't seen or played plenty of times and often I end up really enjoying them. And not because they are FPSs, as I love FPSs and even liked the first Modern Warfare. It's just that a lot of the most praised games, mainly shooters, on 360...weren't that good. They were just forgettable. And normally I'd point I can't say for PS3 but it took them a while to get a lot of exclusives, at least exclusives most people have heard of. But it would be hypocritical to discount games most people haven't heard of so...I dunno...

The reason people call Wii bad is because they think it's for babies, which angers me a lot, seeing as there's plenty of stuff for the hardcore crowd to enjoy on Wii (Resi 4, Mega Man 9 & 10, Madworld, HOTD:Overkill). What we need is a HARDCORE game that EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT Mega Man 9 & 10 were download games. Resi 4 wasn't an exclusive. Madworld and HOTD barely sold anything. We need a popular, console exclusive, hardcore game on Wii.

I can confirm that a lot of hardcore gamers knew about it but ignored it and then complained about the lack of mature games on Wii anyway.
