Just because she's inflatable doesn't mean she's any less a woman. She's more than a woman to me. I'm insulted by these comments.

Remember when she claimed Ratchet and Clank was better than Mario Galaxy 1?

Actually, I consider the second and third Ratchet and Clank games far superior to SMG1, so no problems there. Regarding SMG2, I'm pretty sure she's entitled to her opinion.

Mario isn't supposed to be a realistic human. Mario has always been a cartoony character and will always be. Has she ever bashed any other mario games because of this?

"I don't like it" != bashing.
Does not equal. Does not equal.
Isn't bashing. It's not bashing. She just doesn't like it.
!= != !=
...what is happening here?

She could not appear more calm and civil in the video. "Bashing" would imply some sort of hatred for the game, some sort of antagonism. She's not trying to get anyone to share her opinion or to degrade anyone else's opinion.

She admits loving the Mario RPGs, but fanboys are willing to ignore that and hear what they want. Not liking SMG2=blasphemy.

It's hardly bashing. The very first words that come out of her mouth, "I see why people like the game, but it isn't for me".

She's free not to like the game and all but that's BS. It's like people who say 'I'm not racist but...' or 'No offense but..', then come out with racist or offensive stuff.

Actually, it's nothing like that at all.

That could be the worst analogy I've ever read.

I never liked SMG1, so hah. But complaining about SMG2 is too cartoony is silly, as there haven't ever been a Mario game that wasn't cartoony.

sorry, i should probably clarify that i think everyone is on TV because they're hot, unless (a) they're playing a specific character in a drama of some sort, (b) they're on a reality TV show/talk show/game show, or (c) they're in one of those shows on TLC/Discovery/CourtTV that feature everyday people. and most of the time, all those people are made up really nice for TV anyway, so you still don't get to see them au naturale. :3

None of the guys there were hot.
Except maybe the cameraman :3

This is more about sexism than it is about SMG2.

Morgan Webb is a female in a very male driven industry. If she is to gain any respect as gamer and not be seen as purely as a sex symbol, i.e. Olivia Munn, then she has to be "Hard-Core". TV personalities are about image and she is just projecting the anti- stereotypical female gamer, "Teehee, I like Animal Crossing. Gears of War is ucky".

I'm pretty sure she greatly enjoys this game, but how would saying that benifit her career?

For the most part, I agree, Axo. But there are some who expect or believe a series should grow up with them. Zelda, for example, was very cartoony in Link to the Past. I know the SNES was not exactly capable of realism, but there's a distinct difference between a pink-haired boy and the guys from Contra. And then came Ocarina which Nintendo has said was supposed to bring the series more to a sense of realism, which Twilight Princess took this further.

Also, she just said it was too cartoony, if I recall correctly, not that being cartoony full stop is a bad thing, right? If so, that's even easier to justify, if she had any need to justify her own personal opinion to begin with. The series could certainly stand to dial it down a bit. Galaxy 1 was too serious, but the purple Luma was just grating.

Edit: JR, that is quite possible, and perhaps probable, but it's still an assumption. You're assuming that because she is a girl she actually does like Mario rather than Gears of War. Maybe she really doesn't like Mario. I don't like Galaxy 2. Is that okay because I'm male?

It's exactly like that though, it's just a natural defense mechanism(which everybody does) to deflect any criticism. It's passive aggressive.

It's not as bad as the racist example but I'd say it pretty much is an example of 'No offense but...' which is directed at a well liked game instead of a person.

No, it's completely inaccurate. A racist is saying that there is something wrong with people of a certain race. This is a woman saying she doesn't like a video game that others like, not that all games of the same color are inferior and smelly. Do you seriously believe that it is invalid to believe that there are other people who enjoy a game you don't enjoy? That makes no sense whatsoever. She isn't attacking the game. She is saying she doesn't like it. I can see why people like Gears of War. The co-op play and tactical use of coverage is appealing. The long, drawn out battles, boring colors, and uninspiring theme ruin it for me though. Am I a racist for this? It is completely valid and incredibly obvious to believe that a lot of people will like a game you don't like. How can you possibly think otherwise?

If she attacked one of the games serious flaws, which it has, then I would buy it. Cartoony, though!? Come on, that to me is just a stab at "girly" stigma.

There are women who prefer realism. Real women, not television personalities. Probably a minority, yes, but not pure fiction. Furthermore, it is likely that such a minority personality would make it into this kind of a career precisely because she is unique. Sure, it could well be faked, too. Perhaps this is more likely, but I don't think it precludes any other possibility, either.

Rather than leaving it up to an assumption though, perhaps someone could point out some other cartoony games she's commented on and see if there is a trend one way or the other.

Um.... that's not what I'm saying at all.... I'm saying it's being passive aggressive by starting a statement with a reassuring phrase and then pretty much contradicting the phrase. I didn't say she was a racist at all... it's an analogy because racist people tend to say 'I'm not a racist but...' and then follow it up with a racist comment...

In the same way she does 'bash' the game(bashing being pointing out negative aspects) but deflects criticism by starting out with a pseudo-positive statement... I'm not faulting her for it because as I said everyone does it.
