A game does need blood, guns, and realistic graphics to be good.
Do you know what kind of game doesn't have those things? A crappy game, that's what.

What good is a game if I can't make someone's head explode like a watermelon in it? Blood splatter is a beautiful thing, and took game designers years of hard work to simulate so that we kids, teens, and adults could take the pleasure of seeing without having to kill any real people anymore.

How could you think that a game would even HOPE to be good without guns? Guns are used to kill living things quickly, and the main thing you do in an average video game is (guess what?) kill people/creatures! Think back to the past ten games you've played. How many games did you kill things in? Probably eleven out of those ten games had you utilize the art of killing, so why not use something that gets the job done faster? You truly are cruel if you even thought about using a sword, hammer, or anything else that takes a longer time than a gun to kill. Shame on you!

Now about realistic graphics.
Realistic graphics are everything. Period. I really don't need to add on to that, because anyone who thinks otherwise is a blatant fool.
Why do you think game developers are trying to improve graphics? To make games look LESS like real life, or to make games look MORE like real life? I think that we all can see the answer, considering that it sits in this paragraph like a dog sits among cats. Cartoony graphics (see "Mario") are a painful disgrace when it comes to video games. Do cartoons say "mature" to you? No, they don't, and no game can be good without being rated mature. That is a fact. Also, anime styled characters are total crap. Especially the ones from the notorious Fire Emblem series.

It's fun to put down other people for having tastes different to ours, eh?

Believe it or not, but Call of Duty games are good, and if someone would rather play them than a Wii game, for whatever reason, then that's their choice.

While we're at it, people are also entitled to be happy just having wii sports, and busting it out for the occasional party. Deriding them for it just reinforces every negative connotation of a 'hardcore' gamer that you can think of.

FFS, gaming is a waste of time. That is literally its purpose. It's there to pass time and be entertaining.

How people wish to waste their time is their own business, and seeing 'gamers' get all prissy and elitist over their hobby, and dictating to others what they should and shouldn't enjoy, makes me loathe them.

Can we possibly stop being so childish in this thread?

Or you could man up and be the bigger person.

I don't see what someone else 'dissing' you has to do with you thinking you have the right to decide what hobbies are and are not worthy pastimes, or what games are and are not worth buying.

And also, as a Christian who has studied Theology at Uni and spoken to athiests in the past, I know first hand your experience. Ive just learned to accept that people are entitled to their own opinions, but that's not necessarily going to affect mine.

Actually, WaveBoy has a good point.

Also, we need to keep in mind that when someone says something on here, they are stating their opinion, not making decisions that everyone else has to follow.

@WaveBoy: According to google, there were 6,775,235,741.47 people in the world as of 2009. I'm sure a few aren't going to see gaming the same as you do. That doesn't mean you have to put people down because of it just because you decide to be a video game developer. I'm sure when you're out of school and trying to find work, you'll do what you have to do to put food on the table. Even if it is working on Black College Football Experience 2. Chillax dude.

But you know what I really hate? walking into somebodies house and seeing that they have an XBOX 360 only, with a stack of Shooter, sports and racing games. That alone makes me LOATH them.

Well when somebody 'bashes' what you love while KNOWING that your going to College for Game Art & design, you can't help but get defensive even if they're completely uninformed and oblivious towards the industry. It's a flat out insult...They need to realise to think before they speak. It's like me telling him that his job his utter garbage and that he's wasting his time.

Again, if somebody puts what I love down knowing that 'I' love whatever it is 'which' I'm(or was) going to school for of course I'm going to get angry, who wouldn't? ... But at the same time what they're saying is just flat out rude and insulting. It doesn't bother me hearing it from somebody I don't know, but it can get seriously irritating when it comes from your brother.

Er, that's not chill. It sounds like you're the one who needs to lighten up. WaltzElf's words seemed pretty "light" to me and was worthy advice. If you were secure enough in your passion about games, then other people's opinions wouldn't matter to you.

That's what the anonymity of the internet is for. To voice our actual opinions. Sorry if you feel offended. But there's no need to feel offended for other people.

I usually only have time for the Wii in the weekend and Monday night (Nintendo Week/demos). I have two friends I know use it with some frequency and one who's little white box is collecting dust. I also have a fourth friend which I seldom hear from who owns a Wii (MH3 fan), but from what I've heard, he's put down the Wiimote (not for good) and picked up an ipod touch.

This was pretty much the worst topic ever until WaltzElf came to stop all the nonsense, thank you!

Sorry but the anonymity of the internet is not primarily for bitter people to escape real life, and then whine about it to others.
If people make fun of you for playing Nintendo games don't spend time with them maybe? Also people need to stop taking apathy towards Nintendo or videogames as personal attacks...
I'm sure a large percentage of the perpetual CoD whiners, have never really spent a significant amount of time playing the games to see if they enjoy it, and either whine blindly, or played multiplayer as a newbie against good people and got owned several times as they didn't know how to play.

BTW I barely play my Wii, the last Wii game I spent >$20 on was Smash Bros on launch day. The DS and iPad (or phone) are just so much more convenient to play wherever and for however long.

I think the real question is 'why does anyone care what someone else does with their Wii?', lol. it's their Wii, they can use it as a giant drink coaster for all the good it does you where it is. play your own Wii if you want and be happy. :3
you can replace 'Wii' with '360', 'PS3', or any other game console btw and the point i'm making is exactly the same
