Topic: Will Splatoon 2 eventually come out for the Wii U

I can't find any info on it for Wii U so I'm guessing initially it will only be for Switch. Is there anything technologically missing for it not to come out for Wii U? I realize it is supposed to be very similar to the original but my son loves Splatoon so much that I'd be willing to buy Splatoon 2 even if it doesn't offer that much that is different.

@ks-man Sorry but I don't think it will ever be released on the wii u. It's a Switch exclusive and they're trying to really sell the switch so puting it on the wii u wouldn't help them in this regard. Maybe you can find another game your son might like on the wii u?

@ks-man Yup, the Wii U is over and done with. All games from now on will be on the Switch.

Sadly, you won't be able to play the game unless you have a switch. Nintendo are using it as a big incentive for wii u splatoon fans to upgrade.

I guess the best hope is in 6-12 months they might release it. At that point they may be willing to go for the double dip. We just got my son a Wii U for his 5th birthday about 8 months ago. We knew the Switch was coming out but weren't going to wait. In a few years he'll probably be more interested in sports games and probably then a different console. Otherwise he'll just have to stick with Splatoon 1.

...Really? Why would they stop supporting the system, then all of the sudden "hey, let's release Splatgoon 2 on the Wii U for no reason!"?

Nintendo are no longer releasing new games for the Wii U. It's not a matter that they "might" port it. They won't.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

If Splatoon 2 gets a port, it'll most likely be for the 3DS...but I doubt that we'll even see that happening.

To be fair, the first one should keep him busy until you get a Switch. I'm sure you can find a good deal this Holiday or next year.

However, I can guarantee the sequel will not be on the Wii U. Nintendo wants Splatoon players to buy the Switch.

Nintendo aren't but there's still Cars 3 and Darksiders.

Understood. I didn't realize that Nintendo wasn't releasing any new games for Wii U. Luckily there are still a ton of old games we can get. I'm just not convinced in a couple of years he'll want a new Nintendo system. All our friends who have kids a few years older get either Playstations or Xboxes b/c the kids only want to play sports games when they have friends over.

@ks-man That's the success of those popular brands in a nutshell. They're popular because they're popular. Everyone buys it because if they want to play with friends, that's what their friends are playing so you get boxed into a loop. "Average adolescent boys" is the one demographic Nintendo has a complete loss on and always has.

Sadly, you're probably right about that. It's not so different from the 80's and 90's in the regard. Sega had all the sports games, and that age group was all about Sega because of it.

I was the Nintendo nerd back then too. And still not regretting it

Don't worry, he'll go through his XBox phase. All boys seem to go through that phase in middle school (unless they're Nintendo nerds) but then by the time he gets to college Splatoon 4 and Animal Crossing: The Busy Life will be all the rage in the dorms

You can always just trade the Wii U in towards the purchase of a Switch.

That's true, but he can convince friends to play the Switch.

Nintendo announced that Breath of the Wild was the final game they would release on the system, so no, Splatoon 2 won't be coming to the Wii U.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Some kids like to try and act grown up. I was 19 when Playstation came out and the message was clear that they were trying to appeal to more grown up tastes. I grew up playing NES and SNES but I didn't bother to get an N64 by the time I was 20 with a Playstation. Nintendo saved the North American video game industry with the NES but they had to trojan horse it as an entertainment system and not a video game console and bundle it with a robot to try and convince toy stores to carry it or else they couldn't have gotten in to stores. Playstation came around as the game industry matured and I grew up right along with it. Got back in to Nintendo games having a family with the Wii and DS craze....find I prefer Nintendo games these days and I think that is because I don't care about being grown up I just like games to have fun.

I don't really think it is about trying to act grown up. The original NES had a ton of sports games that my friends and I played for hours upon hours when we wanted a change from Mario, Zelda, and Contra. Games like RBI Baseball, Tecmo Bowl, Double Dribble, and Blades of Steel were just as iconic as some of the other Nintendo staples. With every newer Nintendo system they've put less and less an emphasis on sports games. Sure Wii Sports is fun and a great party game however it isn't the same as sitting down to a game of Madden.

Also, abandoning a platform as soon as a new one comes out isn't the way to endear a new convert to Nintendo. I'm not sure but I believe that both Sony and Microsoft support their legacy systems with new games for at least a year or so before they stop. My wife and I wanted to get our son a new system for his 5th birthday in August. We knew that the Switch was coming out about 7 months later but we couldn't tell our 5 year old that he'd get his present in 7 months. So we got him the Wii U. I didn't think Nintendo would cut support this quickly. It isn't exactly the thing that screams to me "buy a new Nintendo system". It tells me that next time go with a Playstation or XBox.
