Just so everyone knows, total numbers for consoles sold isn't the best way to gague the success of a system. If the average games sold per system isn't up to snuff, it's not exactly successful. The PSP sold more units in the U.S. than in Japan, but it is regarded as more successful in Japan because people actually buy many games for that system over there rather than buy GTA for it or use it as a portable emulator.

If you look at the Wii, the only hugely successful games on it were from Nintendo, and maybe Ubisoft with Just Dance and the Rabbids games. That's not exactly good for the other people supporting it.

From the perspective of the amount of games comming to the system, the WiiU looks to be in a much better position.

Well if the console doesnt sell whats the point in making games for it?

You can sell well without selling in extreme excess. The XBOX and Gamecube were both worth making games for despite the PS2 selling way more.

Did anyone see how their network is going to run, the upgraded freindcode system or what have you? There was also that off rumor of Wii Accomplishments that's never been officially confirmed unless I'm still under a large rock.

When I had my Wii, me and a friend had a very hard time playing Brawl with each other because one of us couldn't connect/get booted off/etc. It was that way with a few close friends as well and it made me very disappointed with their online. They should of made it simpler like with their competitors.

Overall i'm happy with the pricing, I think it's low enough to be competitive but can also see a reduction when the new Playstation and Xbox consoles come around. About the storage though, can you use a regular usb for more storage?

While I'd have preferred $50 less for all bundles, I'm not complaining. I preordered and paid in full for the Deluxe 15 mins after they started taking preorders. I AM TOO EXCITE

Do I even play?

Yeah but if the Wii U sells at the success of the PSP Go, DreamCast, etc the company will most likely call it quits for the console. So it is critcial that the console sells just as good as the games.

I truly think the Pricing is fine in the US, especially if you break it all down: Nintendo says any additional Wii U Gamepads will cost $150 (when they decide to sell them) so, if you look at the base system's $299 pricetag the system cost results the remaining $150.

The Deluxe Bundle is a pretty good deal if you were planning to get Nintendo Land anyways. I ordered one because its a good deal though I could care less it the systems black and comes with stands.

@wobee Exactly! I knew though, for some reason the Wii U wouldn't be $600 like the PS3 debuted!

That's funny because I think the same way...to some extent. I wonder how many Apple fans are getting the iPhone 5?

Regardless I dont see this being Nintendo's Dream Cast like everyone predicted

Yea, I don't think Nintendo will allow the Wii U to sink like SEGA did with the Dreamcast. Nintendo is managed a little better than SEGA was back then......

It's mostly a result of Nintendo shepherding its followers into the HD age. They can offer a modest price point while also giving a significant upgrade from Wii.

I think there was some flawed reasoning, launching a console that couldn't directly compete from a graphical standpoint. Still I think Nintendo is in an excellent position if Wii gamers see the "U" as the best way for them to go HD. Not saying there are tons of people with only Nintendo consoles but still, they have the casual appeal going for them.

Miyamoto on his desire to focus more on the (hard)core Nintendo fan.

[The casual] attitude is, ‘okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.’ [...] and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing.

The WiiU doesn't look like it will go the way of the PSP Go, if the preorders are any indication. Also, the Dreamcast sold a decent amount of units, but the reason it was discontinued was because of SEGA's debt and their decision to take it out after thinking the system wouldn't survive since it was the weakest in a 4 system race (one that I agree with). Also, it had a very high piracy rate, what with games being so easy to copy, which is also a big part with why it didn't do well.

Once again, units sold isn't the only way to look at the success of a console.

From Ninteno's perspective, their biggest battle is in showing investors that there system will remain relevant. The Wii was still doing very well over two years, but the fact of the matter is that Nintendo's market share has decreased dramatically over the past two years, from about a 100 billion dollar value to about 10 billion. Alot of that can be attributed to investors not seeing the Wii as relevant anymore, what with HD TV's having a very high penetration rate in homes now. They still have plenty of cold hard cash on hand, so they won't be going away anytime soon, but considering their value as a company comes from investors, they need to make sure they leave the right impression.

I want the Wii U so very much, I've hyped myself with it since summer 2011, and I know it's going to be great.
But I'm having hard time with the European prices. I mean, come on, it's 375€ for the Premium pack, which is about 485 US dollars! We have 23% VAT in Finland, but that is even higher. That is about 38,6% higher than in the United States! RAGE!!!!
And the games are almost 70€ ($90) in some places, wut?? I'm so frustrated.

Games are for man, as water is for flowers.

GAME's prices are ridiculous. £309 for a WiiU with Nintendo Land or £349 with ZombiU (it looks like they haven't updated their prices since it was discovered they weren't including NintendoLand in the ZombiU special Edition - a game I'm not too keen on getting anyway), and their games are priced at £49.99. I suppose it might be something I have to get used to, but I've never spent £49.99 on a single game.

I think I may stop shopping from GAME.

I think the prices are at the upper end of acceptable, but are, in fact, acceptable. The $350 machine is a much better deal - which shows that people buying the basic system must be getting a bit of a ripoff. At any rate, it's on my list.

I guess I should feel lucky to only have to pay $349.99 in the US for the deluxe after reading how much you guys in Europe have to fork over.

To blessed to be stressed.
I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.
