So apparently digital games ARE tied to your NNID. If you buy a new Wii U, and de-link your NNID from the old one and use it on the second one, you can re-download your games on the new Wii U. I thought this wasn't possible before? I had called Nintendo to make sure if was possible after making a thread about it. I asked if I could de-link my GF's NNID from her Wii U and and make a second profile on MY Wii U and add her NNID on there and they said I can still re-download the games she owns on the eshop as well as the ones that I already have on my system.

If legit, that was pretty darn sneaky of Nintendo... why isn't this bigger news?

Though they said it takes maybe 24 hours for the de-linking process and you're suppose to DE-LINK it not DELETE your NNID. Though I guess this still isn't possible to do with the 3DS besides doing a system transfer but... I'm sure they have a record of the games you own digitally if it keeps track of the Wii U games.

How does one "de-link" their NNID? Can't find that option anywhere.

Guys, I suggest reading the whole thread - http://67.227.255.239/forum/showthread.php?t=778271&page=4

You can move your NNID to a new Wii U by calling Nintendo customer support in the U.S., support in other territories seems sketchy at best. There's still no way to simply shift your ID and all content to a new system by yourself.

You can call Nintendo to move your NNID if for some reason you sold your Wii U and didn't format it or if your system broke. I just called yesterday and they told me it's possible to de-link your NNID and link it to another one. You would just have to re download everything from the Eshop.

Also this guy.

"Nintendo told me it is now possible to delete the account and place it on a new Wii U. They did it for me last time as I claimed mine was broken and couldn't do it myself, but apparently you can do it yourself." The other guy who did it had no trouble doing so either.

@KaiserGX Yeah, I saw that post, but subsequent users that actually tried to do what he said and were unable to do so. Ultimately yes, customer services should be able to help you out, which is something.

It still needs to be sorted properly to join the modern age, though. I'm hoping the major summer update will do it.

It's worked with Wii U's from the US at least. They told me all I needed to do was de-link it and wait a couple hours and make a second profile, add the user using the existing NNID and then go to the eshop and re-download the games.

Actually this was possible for a while. You just had to contact customer service first

True, but you also had to send in your Wii U if I remember correctly. This is landmark because it's self service.

From what I gather, these are the steps to transfer a NNID.

1. Contact Nintendo Support, just to be certain.
2. Delink your account by going into your settings. Delete the Local ID. Do not delete your NNID!
3. Wait 24-48 hours for the changes to take effect.
4. Link your account to your other Wii U by using an existing ID.

I'm not sure of this, but I believe if you delete your Local ID on a Wii U, there is no way to restore your ID on the same console. You would have to put your ID on another Wii U. EDIT: This statement is false because I don't know how to research! You can delete your Local ID and restore it on the same console anytime you want.

For any aussies out there, I can confirm that you CAN transfer your NNID to another Wii U console.
After reading up on this forum and others, I called Nintendo Australia. I started telling the girl that I wanted to transfer my NNID to a new console and she even finished my sentence like she does this all the time.

I offered her the serial numbers for the two WII U's, and she took note. I mentioned that I unlinked my NNID as that is what other people have been told to do, but she didn't seem too concerned about that information. Perhaps it's not required or maybe she just wasn't aware. She then told me that I'll most likely need to format the old Wii U before the techs can do the transfer. So I formatted it. Of course, I did not delete my NNID beforehand, just unlinked it. The interesting thing is that the Wii U phones home when you format it. It must be telling Nintendo that this console is wiped, and thus proves that your NNID is no longer active.
The next day I pulled out the new Wii U which had not even been booted up yet, and was able to enter my old NNID without a problem and set the console up.

The only issue was an error 105-0642 when I tried to log in to the eShop. After a bit of research, it turns out this is a common error for people who have transferred their NNID to a new console. I gave Nintendo Australia another call and told them the story. They fixed it by the end of the day.
