I read on NOA's site today their new FAQ about the wii U, and they kept mentioning the term: "Switch to wii mode to buy games with wii points". What is wii mode and what does it do? I thought the eshop wouldn't use wii points? I need some help...

Its the wii U emulating a wii. Unlike 3ds eshop where you have 3dsware and dsiware the wii shop channel and its contents are stuck in yhe emukated wii Ghetto.

You see, they have a complex network of dolphins swimming at a constant rate, which provides WiiU with immense emulating capabilities. I heard the dolphin is easy to emulate as well.

Wait, so we can transfer our Wii points to the WiiU, but we can't use them for anything other than Wii stuff?
.
Nintendo probably wants to go to dollar ammounts across the board, so they can charge tax twice?
....
Would this be a good place to ask why you're taxed to add money into your account, and again when you make a software purchase?
Almost makes me want to go back to Wii/DSI points.

Except they don't tax twice. Where'd you get that?

@LZBirdboi
I live in NA, and when I add money to the e-shop account, the card gets taxed.
When I go to buy software, I have to pay the same state tax from the account money.
I am the forever lurker.

They do. I guess it depends on your state. Here, I won't say where since I'm paranoid, didn't get double taxed at first but now we do. I miss the points system.

Well in Mississippi we only get taxed once, so that's your state

Wii mode is a very bad and unneccesary idea. Just have VC, WiiWare, and Wii games playable on the Wii U interface, and all downloadable games available in one place, the Wii U eShop. But then again I guess they couldn't sell you the same games again (in HD!) if it were like that.

Except in most cases backwards compatibility does not work like that. Wii, 3DS, and DS all had features turned off to play older games

Well maybe for playing actual Wii games I could see changing to Wii mode, but I think they could easily convert VC and WiiWare games to be playable from the Wii U interface. Who knows, maybe they will in a future update. I just think it is crazy to have to go into Wii mode from the Wii U to download VC/WiiWare games that will only be playable in the Wii mode. This pretty much confirms that there will be a seperate Wii U VC with possible updated games.
