Topic: What Was Sakurai Thinking With Smash Tour?

Need to vent here...

Got my copy of Smash in the mail today, and I've spent the evening trying out the different modes and seeing what the Amiibos do and all that, and sooner or later I decide to give Smash Tour a try. My verdict? I hate it. For the life of me I just can't seem to understand why they would see fit to include this mode instead of the almighty Smash Run.

I tried to enjoy this board game mode, I really did, but it just sucks! It's way overly complex, it's too stop and go, and, well, it's a friggin board game. I mean, really? Who wants to play a board game over something like Smash Run? Man... Epic fail.

Am I the only one who feels this way? Is it just me? Or do others feel we kind of got short changed with this Smash Tour mode?

Last I checked everyone hated Smash Run, and that everyone said Smash Tour was better. >.>

What's with people ignoring the rules today?

I had a lot of fun with Smash Run, but yeah, Smash Tour is pretty terrible. Four player local is OK. Tolerable, but it still isn't that much fun. Human or bots though, I have never seen a game yet where one person doesn't have like 60% of the fighters at the end. One person will have 5-6 and everyone else will have 1 or 2. It's dumb and pointless.

Haven't tried the mode yet, but I'm still hopeful. People were dumping on Smash Run with the 3DS version came out, and I still think that mode is pretty fun.

Also haven't tried Smash Tour, yet. Gonna give it a preliminary go with the fiance, as Thrusday/Thanksgiving we'll have a good number of people over and we could do an 8 player Smash Tour. That's a thing, right?

Nope, smash tour is 4 player local only

Looks like he was thinking [Mario Party x Super Smash Bros.].

Looks like fun to me. I'm going to try it out on friday with a couple of friends. Considering how many modes the game has to offer, one being somewhat poorly designed wouldn't really bother me. There are plenty of other modes to substitute it with.

The thing about Smash Tour is that it's a lot more focused on the multiplayer aspect. I can tell you that I (along with many others) definitely prefer 3DS Smash Run to Wii U Smash Tour, but the latter potentially gets more fun with friends who understand the rules.

It's fine as a party game, and that's what it was intended to be.

And Smash Run really wouldn't have worked on Wii U. It's not like we got "short-changed" or anything. There is a ridiculous amount of content in this game.

What both Smash Run and, and I'd guess Smash Tour if the complaints mean anything, need is better customization options.

I love running through crazy stages and all, but I'd like to be able to set things like:

-Stock vs. Time matches
-Length of the final match
-The Length in the Smash Run caves
-The levels of the CPU
-The CPU's you fight
-Frequency of the events
-Frequency of different maps

And other similar elements

You can actually choose the CPUs you go up against but I agree with everything else. Smash Run is very Bare Bones and I'd still be using it if I could just adjust a few things. As it is now it feels more like a demo than anything.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

For me, event mode makes up for it.

I'm betting Story mode was removed because Nintendo intend to make an Amiibo story game where Nintendo characters interact.

Smash Tour is something to fill space.

There never was a story mode planned, as explained by sakurai

Well the wiiu version was designed with more local co op and online multiplayer in mind. Which means tour makes sense as the flaship side mode. I like run more myself but that is because I play alone anyway.

It's still frustrating that there wasn't an adventure mode. It doesn't have to have cutscenes, but Smash Bros lends itself very well to Kirby-style platforming, and it's a shame that that kind of gameplay is restricted to Master Fortress in Smash U.

Right here.

I enjoyed Subspace. Yes, it had it's flaws and repetitiveness, but they could have really improved this mode to have a combined Nintendo universe coming together to save their world. This is where I felt the amiibos could have really shined.

Yeah, they should have brought back the Sub Space Emissary. It's stupid that they didn't. It's fun, a great way to unlock characters, and also gives a good way to try everyone out. The story part of it was fun too. And yeah, Smash Tour seems a bit off. I haven't been able to play it with people, and that's how it'll be most of the time, and as said before, whoever has 6 fighters at the end wins. It's also just so chaotic, it's just not a good board game.
