So basically Nintendo becomes that nice innocent kid in high school that turned into a total rebel in college…
That is not what rebellion is. To rebel is to go against the norm. PS4 and Bone are undeniably the "norm", and they have the sales and public sentiment to prove it. They both chase the same demographics, release the same sorts of games, and conform to whatever the market imposes upon them (be it good or bad).
Nintendo is the rebel in the industry. Nobody is doing quite what Nintendo is doing nowadays. PS4/Bone are engaged in a digital arms race while Nintendo releases hardware that is powerful enough while using considerably less power than its competitors (even less so than the Wii). Nintendo will use more powerful hardware someday, sure, but only when it can be utilised with less power, less cost, and with less of a chance of failure. Sony and Microsoft have Nintendo beat both in power consumption AND hardware failure. Hardly something to boast about.
I don't think the problem here is the image that Nintendo is presenting necessarily, but the image that the public have formed of Nintendo. Bafflingly, there is still a lot of sentiment for Nintendo's older hardware (particularly the SNES, N64 and Game Boy line), and there are many actively seeking out this old hardware, which makes no sense when one could just buy a Wii, Wii U or 3DS to play the best that these old systems have to offer.
By rebel I mean rebellion against authority. So like experimenting with drugs, going way too hard with alcohol, lots of one-night-stands, etc. It was meant to be a light hearted joke anyway.

Wait. Why is Samus now a dudebro shooter character? Have you ever actually played metroid? She's the exact opposite. Metroid is in no way, a dudebro shooter. Its closer to Zelda than halo.
I never said it was a dudebro shooter.
Sorry sorry. I'm not trying to start an argument. I too, hope Nintendo doesn't change. But other console makers aren't only releasing dark games. They also release light hearted ones. Its good to have a balance in the games industry.
Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

The whole "New Nintendo" thing I did in the OP was a joke. It was a parody of what would happen if Nintendo were to adopt the perceived image of Sony and Microsoft.

Yeah, i got that. Seems a lot of people posting here did not for some reason.
Which begs the question: What is the point of this pointless thread?
The original post is basically nothing more than "What if Nintendo did this stupid idea? That's right, it'd be stupid!"
This is a perfect example of why more people on here need to get their own blogs.
They're free, and you can post whatever other pointless thoughts that come into your head.

I got that at the first, but I still decided to answer anyway.
By the way, have you actually played either an Xbox or playstation? They are nothing like that. The only games advertised that way, are some of the big AAA releases. Not every game on non Nintendo consoles is dark and mature. Ever heard of ratchet and clank? Tearaway? Little big planet? Jak and Daxter? Viva pinata? How about jrpgs? Nintendo does NOT make the only games with cartoons graphics.
Have critics played Nintendo's systems? They have more than Mario, Zelda and Pokemon

This is one of the dumbest threads I have seen in a long time. Not just that half the things there were good ideas being parodied along with the bad ones, but the mass amount of fanboyism that this was begging to draw in. It seems as if there's a troll thread on here every day. The community here can be nice, but I go away facepalming just as often.

I am pretty sick of all of the backseat businessing, of which I was occasionally a part of, on these forums. Doesn't it make more sense to talk about games and game design? Do we really care 4-8 thread's worth about Nintendo's bottom line?
I will never, ever outgrow lush, beautiful art styles. My jaw literally dropped at the Zelda U reveal at E3 2014. It's one of the most gorgeous looking games I've ever seen. And I've been an adult for several years now, so I no longer really need the M on the box to feel all grown up. It's a non-issue to me. I have just as much fun with E games as I do with M games.
So on a personal level, I hope continues to do what they've done best, though I would also like to see them expand their more adult-orientated properties like Metroid in interesting ways. Kids don't care about Samus anyway, so go ahead and throw her in a pure sci-fi horror game or something.

The copyright of one of those was recently allowed to expire by the publisher. One of them is pretty on ice due to Naughty Dog saying they only make grown up games for manly men now. Two had a recent commercial failure and the future of the IPs are uncertain at this point.
But hey there's a new Ratchet & Clank game coming out yaaay.

Ya, but why would they start their own blog if they know they can post in a forum like this and actually get their pointless thought looked at, immediately? It's just rambling, and I don't really mind.

In the long history of the English language, this might be the first time that sentence was ever written.
Statistically unlikely.
Anyway, about that idea about a survival horror Metroid YES PLEASE. Give Samus limited energy for her suit an a melee attack or two and you'd have a grand FPS survival horror. As a bonus the setting could be spooky without much bodily mutilation, improbably spiky walls, or pools of blood (looking at you The Evil Within and Tomb Raider).
Seriously, step over Alien Isolation. I'm way more into the Metroid setting (very few survival horror settings at all interest me).

From backseat business people to backseat game designers?

I realise that. =P
I guess I just wanted a soapbox to vent my views on what constitutes "rebellion" nowadays. =P
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

I'm not trying to troll. This is just a what if scenario. Hell I even said, that Nintendo can benefit from modernizing their online and hardware, as well as improve marketing.

I sometimes laugh at ideas that only benefit the consumer. For instance, a consumer bought your products, so you are required to shower them with free stuff.
