I am pretty sick of all of the backseat businessing, of which I was occasionally a part of, on these forums. Doesn't it make more sense to talk about games and game design? Do we really care 4-8 thread's worth about Nintendo's bottom line?

From backseat business people to backseat game designers?

Well we all have experience playing games and know our tastes to some extent. That and relatively few MBAs I'd assume so, yeah, I think talking about, critiquing, and sharing our hopes for games would be the far more interesting topic.

Business is not really something you need experience in to discuss and critique. A lot of start ups come from people with no experience at all.

Sure, whatever you say.

They do. There are several people at my university who just made a start up with a good idea. In the field I'm studying, a huge percentage of the industry is startups by people who made a major discovery. Business is a bit like ethics, you don't need expertise to have a valid discussion of it.

...You do realize that Nintendo is hardly a start up business, right?

I'm not saying they are, but start-ups are good evidence that business acumen doesn't require one to study business. Hell, neither Iwata nor Miyamoto have business degrees, and they are RUNNING Nintendo, not casually discussing sales.

And Reggie was in the pizza business before working for Nintendo

He had a bachelor's in economics and was the director of national marketing for Pizza Hut! That's not the same as being an inexperienced backseat businessman!

Hey this is a long comment chain!

A bachelors degree? That's not that impressive. I wonder if he even knows how to make pizza dough?

If you don't have anything to seriously contribute to this discussion, I'd appreciate it if you didn't needlessly expand this chain.
