Seeing how Eji Aonuma said more details about Zelda U will come at E3 2014, I thought it was time to ask what you would like from Zelda U in general?

Guns, Bazookas, Riffles and grenades I wanna headshot that Gannon creep CoD style! Just Kidding
the usual Zelda game, that is the same essence of any zelda game and a new surprise that will be the core of this one. like the wolf and the Twilight world for Twilight Princess or the motion controls, anime-ish character development and the skyloft flying in Skyward Sword(the senseless wagging from TP Wii doesn't cout for motion controls, at least not as good ones!!!) or like the Minish Cap's partner and shrinking ability. small details that are important for that specific game in the series and make it more enjoyable

goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

1. Have it be a Wii U trilogy involving its own specific characters/setting/stories while each game still being their own game (Mass Effect style or at the very, very least Metroid Prime style). This is mainly because of the increasing difficulty I have caring about characters and story when they have to change it literally every single game, especially when recent Zeldas have to spend the first couple of hours setting up story apparently. Anyone who complains that this would somehow mean each of these games wouldn't be full games is an idiot btw.
2. More cool duel-like combat like Skyward Sword. Some improvements, more optional complexity? I dunno. Not sure if they should use Wiimotion Plus again or not.
3. Open world like Xenoblade or Skyrim. Likely not as big as either though, which is fine considering how long Zelda games can be already.
4. If there's voice acting, get the best voice acting they can afford.
5. Don't have helper character insult people's intelligence.

Open world sounds good, though i think voice acting could ruin the idea of people imagining the characters and the worlds in the Zelda Universe

Just give me a harder difficulty, then the past Zelda games.

Which is why I said it has to be the best voice acting possible. Even Kid Icarus: Uprising levels wouldn't cut it.

Also Link shouldn't talk. I'd personally go so far as to say Zelda and Ganondorf shouldn't talk either but they wouldn't be that specific.

I just want it to be different while still being charming. It doesn't have to be the same charm, mind, just...I want to feel like they had a vision and worked towards that vision as best as the could. Zelda was always pretty good about that. Even Skyward Sword, even if I felt said vision was heavily hindered by the hardware. So long as they don't lose that with whatever they change, I'll most likely be fine.

I agree with most of these. I also don't want online multiplayer. It doesn't fit at all

I think online could work and be very cool. You would be in a party of 4 that traverses through the world and explores dungeons together. Not like four swords though, where all the players are Link. You would have to be able to customize your character. But it wouldn't be Link that you customize; it would be an online representation. So the guy that your friends see is customizable and looks like a completely different character than Link, but on your screen, you're still Link. That way, everyone feels like Link, but doesn't feel like one Link out of 3 others.

I'm not saying that wouldn't be potentially awesome, I'm just saying that I don't want Nintendo to go too far into impossible budget and/or multiplayer in every single player game mode. Or at least I assume that regardless of what I want, I can't see Nintendo not releasing more than one original Zelda on the console.

Uprising was pretty dang good. Oh and watch this:[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ll88Rd1vRpI]
The main reason they didn't do voice acting for Skyward Sword was probably because they didn't want to give kids nightmares!

1. a return to open world, doesn't have to by hyrule field but a genuine open world experience
2. instead of a past/present setting how about a futuristic one
3. a new art-style, doesn't have to be realistic AT ALL and i mean that
4. how does one make online multiplayer work in Zelda? Four Swords anyone? (for online co-op only of course)
5. absolute freedom to the player

I think these are do-able~ =)

Why does everyone want online multiplayer? Pretty much every 'next-gen' game coming from the big publishers has it. We don't need another game with online shoehorned into it. Not to mention how contrived the story reason would have to be.

I'd just like for Zelda to return to its most basic elements and flesh them out in new ways. Those being exploration, overcoming obstacles through puzzles or combat, and the obtaining of new tools for new problems. Online multiplayer doesn't fit into that definition in my opinion.
Obviously the first step that I think most people want to see is a departure from the standard Zelda formula of dungeon orders.
Make it more open world and give the player control on where they want to explore and which dungeons to tackle. Which looks to be something they are doing in A Link Between Worlds, so they're going in the right direction.

Problem is that every Zelda fan likes the series for different reasons.
For instance while my sister is a big fan of Zelda games she couldn't get into Skyward Sword because of the motion controls and how they affected combat mechanics. She doesn't play Zelda for the combat, she plays it for the exploration, puzzles and story. However I'm much more into the combat and really enjoyed the Skyward Sword.
I think this is the reason that the game received such a mixed response from the fanbase.
Where Nintendo takes the series will be interesting that's for sure.

Combat is one of my main reasons for playing Zelda. I still didn't like Skyward Sword's way of handling the combat. I guess as an addendum, I sincerely hope the next Zelda doesn't overdo it on Motion controls again...

A big world that draws players in. I think multplayer could work in a way that Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon did, but I'm pretty sure it would be a side mode that's not part of the main game.

Graphics equal to the E3 2011 demo would be pretty legit. Items that make more sense and have multiple uses.

Exploration, side-quests that matter, motion control and GamePad control schemes, and maybe something to make the timeline make more sense.

I have really high expectations... This should be the best Zelda ever.

I fully agree with most of this, but I'd have to say no to the voice acting. Not just because of a certain expected level of quality for everything Zelda, but because I actually think there's a certain charm in a silent protagonist, a voiceless Zelda, and the random gibberish exclamations of NPCs. I dunno. I think I'd miss it, even if Nintendo enlisted AAA quality voice acting.

But yes to everything else. I do still care about the individual characters that appear in each game (in fact, I have a bad habit of losing a lot of my motivation to play Wind Waker once Aryll is rescued, and she's in what, like 3 scenes), but a trilogy arc sounds very enticing.

Also, I know a lot of people have an aversion to the style, but I think it would be neat to see some steampunk influences in a Zelda title. Nothing too over-the-top, but maybe something along the lines of Final Fantasy 6's magitek/steam engines.

And of course, lots of things to do, to go along with the open world. Sidequests, subplots, maybe even crafting (though Skyward Sword already had a basic crafting system).

Oh, and one thing I've been thinking about that I'd like to see in a Zelda game is a little more of a selection of magic. Perhaps small skill trees for Din, Nayru, and Farore, a few spells each and the player can only choose a limited number of them according to their play style.* Obviously, with a system like that, you must make it so that none of the spells are essential to gameplay, just helpful.

  • Example:
Din's Fire (area of effect damage), Din's Thorns (aura that returns damage to enemies that attack you), Din's Power (increases attack power and chance to stun enemies, Fire and Thorns are prerequisites)
Naryu's Love (temporary shield that nulls damage), Naryu's Embrace (heal some hearts), Naryu's Wisdom (attacks temporarily bypass enemy guard/defense, Love and Embrace are prerequisites)
Farore's Wind (teleportation), Farore's Dust (puts enemies in range to sleep), Farore's Courage (increases attack speed, run speed, and jump/roll speed, Wind and Dust are prerequisites)

Choose 5.
