I would love to see a futuristic sports title,like Nintendo's take on Speedball 2.5 v 5 online multiplayer with ranked leagues and cups and an RPG like single player story mode.Absolutely nothing like Blastball though.
@VeeFlamesNL: That's a thing already. Not officially I by Nintendo I believe, but... MMO's? I agree.
No more hack 'n' slash's. The newer Megaman games has ruined that feeling now. Even that new game being kickstarted by the original Castlevania creator will soothe that HnS action genre.
Wavedashes behind you Got some of dat Maylay?

There are hack and slash Mega Man games? Where can I get these? O.o
Nintendo currently has most genres covered. I'd be interested in a Nintendo-y stealth title, and I think that could be really successful, but I'd more like to see them return to some genres and franchises they've left dormant for a while. Wii U is the perfect platform for a new, heavily expanded Battalion Wars, with fully-fledged multiplayer modes and bigger, badder battles. Or a new Earthbound game (since that seems to be what they want to call the series here) with a 3D world and always-accessible menu on the Gamepad. Or a flashy HD revival of any of its extreme sports IPs like 1080°, Wave Race, or Pilotwings.
I'd like to see Nintendo go for a classic RPG for once. I don't count Pokémon towards the genre, since it's much simpler in many ways. No, I wanna see something akin to the old Final Fantasy or Lufia games, with party organization, inventory management, and intricate skillsets to deal with. The only Nintendo franchises in that rough direction were Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, but I'd like to see something without reaction tests and and Mario universe from them.
I disagree with Splatoon was successful because of new ip hype, Splatoon was simply a clever twist on a popular genre backed up by great character designs.
What Ninty really could do with is another 3D adventure series, it's all well and good having Zelda but the new titles get released rarely and when it's delayed it's lack of presence is felt.
Imo the lack of Madden, FIFA etc really hurts the Wii U but there's no point in Ninty creating their own versions as the main reasons those titles beat their often superior rival sports game is by having them be licenced with real teams and players and I doubt Ninty would spend the money to get those licences.

I haven't seen Nintendo make any open world action games like Prototype or Infamous. They also don't have a dedicated beat em up or hack and slash series (yes, they have Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta, but I don't see either of them sticking around in the long term), although I think DK could work for that (I could see DK getting a side series that's more like God of War/Werehog/Knack style).
They've done just about everything at this point. There may be certain genres that will be suited to whatever the NX has to offer, but what twist they'll take I wouldn't be able to guess, cuz you know, we don't have a very good idea what the NX will bring to the table at this point.
