Platforming.
Seriously, everyone puts down side-scrolling platformers when we've barely explored what can be done with the genre. It's a very wide category that could stand some innovation. Nintendo currently could shake things up from the same-old Mario, DK, Kirby, and Yoshi.

2D Metroidvania and Action RPGs. Sorely underrepresented genres.

Lawl, nope

It's a very wide category that could stand some innovation. Nintendo currently could shake things up from the same-old Mario, DK, Kirby, and Yoshi.

All of the innovative 2D platformers in the last decade have been indie games, often ones like Limbo with narrative elements, which Nintendo has tended to burn at the stake of late.

If Kriby is generic, and Yoshi is generic, and NSMB is generic, then by what mental arithmetic do you arrive at the conclusion that even more Nintendo 2D platformers will somehow freshen up the genre? If anything they'll just get more and more derivative.

Also, Nintendo shouldn't make a new IP for a 2D platformer when May-ri-oh sells so well; that's a terrible idea. If anything they can throw their new idea into the next NSMB game and, whad'ya know? Maybe it'll actually deserve the 'new' moniker for the first time since the DS.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Sci-Fi RPG, with a unique art style, would be nice.

How about a unique arc style? (laughs)

Honestly? I would really like to see Nintendo tackle a game with some sort of random level generation. Yeah, Nintendo's strength has always been supremely polished static content, but if they were able to squeeze half of that polish out of a game which uses random level generation I think it would be really neat.
