With the rumor that Retro Games is working on a new IP and/or STAR FOX and Sakamoto's team most likely doing an OTHER:M follow-up for 3DS, who is working on METROID for Wii U? I've been a fan of Platinum since VIEWTIFUL JOE. And VANQUISH was my favorite shooter of this generation. With the awesomeness they achieved on the Metal Gear series with MG RISING: REVENGEANCE, I can only imagine what they would do if handed the keys to Samus. What do you all think?

Now Samus can shoot in every direction. Platinum Games is so creative.

Awful idea.

Are they Working on it now? Doubt it. They've got The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 in the works right now. I don't think they have time for a Metroid game as well. Do I want them to work on it? No, not really. Platnium is OK but I'd rather see Nintendo take this next one on themselves or give it to Team Ninja completely. They didn't give Team Ninja Total control with Other M, and that was my favorite Metroid game ever. I really want to see what they'd do with full control. My one hope is that they don't give it back to Retro, EVER.

NO! God no! Platinum makes fast-paced action games, not atmospheric Adventure games. They'd probably put out something worse than Other M.

The first PRIME title is my favorite Metroid game; the level of immersion was close to BIOSHOCK standards. I also loved OTHER: M and was fine with the control scheme, I just think that style would be better suited to the 3DS. I think with Nintendo's watchful eye Platinum could make something very sci-fi cool.

A new IP, maybe. Metroid would not benefit from that studio whatsoever.

How can one like otherM but dislike prime ? No offense, but i just cant get my head around it. OtherMs setting and story was a total trainwreck and literally destroied the atmosphere, which is a BIG point of the metroid series. But i have to admit, das team ninja knows how to make an action game, since otherMs gameplay was excellent. Cut out all the stupid as hell story elements and you could have a very very good metroid game. A perfect blend of the old 2D mechanics and modern 3D gameplay mixed with some close combat fighting which further highlights what the chozo suit is capable of doing (compare it to, say, super metroid, where samus is rather stiff)
Team Ninja again ? Sure, why not, but dont make it a soap opera again, that story was painfuly stupid, illogical and absolutely off character. Platinum ? Im not sure. I LOVE platinum games, since they essentially are, what capcom used to be and i was once the biggest capcom nerd ;) But they are experts in absolutely high speed action games and are capable to do some excellent work. But metroid has a much bigger emphesis on exploration with a MUCH slower pace. Im not so sure if these guys are the right ones for the job.
But the perfect scenario would be, if nintendo or one of their first party studios did it. As much as i love prime (it was to metroid, what mario galaxy was to classic mario, the perfect transition into the 3D realm), leave the trilogy alone and dont do a "Halo 3 will be the last one....except for these other 500 sequels" Leave it be and do something new with it. The 2.5D aproach from otherM is still fresh and unused, that would be a start, but like i said, leave the hamfest storys to squares pointy haired shemale lead characters :D

That's why my mind was blown at E3 2009 when they showed OTHER:M for the first time; Team Ninja doing Metroid!? The first NINJA GAIDEN wasn't super-exploration heavy, but when you were done the whole city was open. But ultimately I felt OTHER:M was WAY too short and the map was too small. I think Platinum could do it. Aren't some of the original OKAMI team over at Platinum now? OKAMI was an adventure. We shouldn't pigeonhole developers into just action or adventure roles. Great development teams should be able to try anything.

One of the few title I'd like Platinum NOT to develop. They're a very talented studio, but I just can't see it panning out too well. Then again, they can branch into different genres, Okami proved that.

Of any outside developer, FROM SOFT, and even then I'm still not too keen on the idea. I'd much rather see Retro take the helm again.

Okami is a different beast from Metroid. A VERY different beast. They were also a very different company, with different people at the helm. Atmosphere is key in a Metroid game, and always has been. And atmosphere is very difficult to pull off. It requires a lot of attention to detail, and a lot of subtlety, something I don't think Platinum games knows how to do.

Great profile pic!

Your FROM SOFTWARE idea is very interesting. It would be nice to see a difficult Metroid game. OTHER:M was a cakewalk. I would like to see Zelda take some cues from DARK SOULS and SKYRIM. I want the adventure back! SKYWARD SWORD was definitely a step in the right direction.

But I digress. Perhaps Platinum should do STAR FOX then, since all of the people here so far think they can only do action titles.

I still think they could make an awesome combat system for a METROID game.

Have you played BAYONETTA? The attention to detail and atmosphere in that world were perfect, especially if you went after all of the weapons and collectibles.

A fan of Kubrick, mate?

In terms of world design, I think FROM SOFT would nail a Metroid. I'm not sure how they would handle the combat side, but I think they would be quite capable.
Nintendo might have to step in a little so they don't make the game too hard.

Kamiya mentioned wanting to work on a Star Fox game not to long ago and the internet wet their knickers.
I'd quite like to see it happen.
I don't think Platinum would make a bad Metroid game, I just it it would be a tad too frantic. Plus they would probably add bullet time as a suit upgrade.

Have you lost your marbles?! There was no atmosphere outside of pure, unadulterated insanity in Bayonetta! (EDIT: Well, maybe that's hyperbole, but still, we're talking about very different things here when it comes to atmosphere...) And that is NOT appropriate for Metroid...

But yes, Star Fox would be a great game for Platinum games. So long as Nintendo makes sure rthe story is reigned in (which they definitely would), I'm sure they'd do a fantastic job in all other areas.

Platinum Games is highly talented and flexible so there is not doubt in my mind they would do a good job with Metroid, Star Fox, or even Zelda. However, I think if they are ever given the opportunity to develop one of these titles (or maybe even tasked with making a new IP for Nintendo) they will make something that fits in with the series rather than something that reflects one of their previous projects.

I don't think Platinum really needs to touch any of the currently known Nintendo's IP's outside of The Wonderful 101.

What proof do you have of this? Out of their entire catelogue (including upcoming) of 6 games, they've made 5 Fast-paced action games, and an RPG that totally bombed. When tasked with making a Metal Gear game, they instead made a DMC game with a Metal Gear coat of paint. I don't think these guys are flexible at all.

Platinum games is very talented at making a quality game, that is true, but that doesn't mean they are good at making any game and any genre successfully. They usually stick to what they know and I'm ok with that.
