I think Sony gets a little to much credit for E3 2013. All Sony did was continue the same services they were offering with PS3 while making PS+ required on more features. You get those same services on Wii U without having to pay for online

Finished up Nintendo 2007 a couple hours ago.

A LOT of patting themselves on the back, due to the runaway success of Wii & DS (conference was filled with sizzle reels of news reports, TV & net, and YouTube clips praising the two platforms).

The reveal of the Wii Zapper near the beginning with a bunch of supported upcoming titles (Resi Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Ghost Squad, & Metal of Honor) was probably the most consistently exciting part of the conference, though the on stage demonstration of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption comes in at a close second (followed by the Z:PH demonstration & MKWii reveal)

It got a bit slower once they got into the more casual side of things, but was still interesting (well, other than Wii Fit at the end, which was a bit boring, even if I got to see the origin of the "my body is ready" meme).

Will do 2008 later tonight, which I hear is the worst one ever, lol.

Eh, probably beating a dead horse, but Sony's 2013 E3 was basically:
"LOL Microsoft sucks!"
"WOOOH OMG SONY UR DA BEST!"
"Here's Knack!"
"Talking about snacks, we'll be back in 10 minutes!"
"[10 mins later] Now here's Killzone!"
"WOOOH GREAT GRAPHIVCS BEST GAME EVER!"
"Microsoft sucks lol!"
"SONY WE LOVE YOU"
"Now a new Infamous!"
"OH MY GOD BEST E3 EVER LOOK AT DEM GRAPHIKZ"
"Now here's a bunch of multiplatform games that are not even PS4 exclusives"
"NGGGGGH THAT'S METAL AS beep SONY WE LOVE YOU!"

Not that Nintendo's was much better, mind you. While it is generally agreed that E3 2012 was kinda bad for the big three (Nintendo DID have the best, though, there's no contest there. Ubisoft won overall because pre-rendered Watch_Dogs), E3 2013 as a whole wasn't...very good, either, even though most...people seemed to love it...for some reason? I blame the next gen hype.

Hopefully this year's E3 is better. This year has been great overall, much better than 2013, E3 can't be the first disappointing thing of the year (other than Spider-Man but eh my hopes for that movie weren't that high), right...?
...Right?

...At least the San Diego Comic-Con will be good...

Finished up the Nintendo 2008 conference, and yeah, that would be totally underwhelming if you were watching that live.

They were totally focused on the "Blue Ocean" consumers that year, and it completely showed.

Were there games there to get excited about? I'd say yes, as I think Wii Sports Resort & Animal Crossing: City Folk have both casual/core appeal (I was personally excited for WSR, mostly for the swordplay, which I ended up playing for hours, lol), but the fact that not many core only centric games were showcased (and none of them first party) was disappointing. The only two I can think of were Call of Duty: WaW and GTA: Chinatown Wars (the latter of which didn't even have a trailer).

Other than the lackluster game choices to showcase, the show was performed well, I suppose. Definitely my least favorite one so far, though.

The worst E3s are when you're sitting through the whole thing live waiting for the "and one more thing" moment. You spend the whole show going "yeah that's nice but what else". Then they show something like Wii Music or Nintendo Land and the camera moves backwards and you think.... "umm, that was it? Where's the other thing? You sure that was it? I can't believe it, that was it!"

The best ones are when they have two or three things during the show and you're pretty happy. You get towards the end and you think "well they've done it, that was an awesome show". Then just when you think they're closing up they dim the lights and show a trailer for Zelda or something.

Just finished up Nintendo 2009!

2010 seems to overshadow it in terms of exciting reveals, but for it's time 2009 must have seemed very exciting. They knew they flopped with 2008, and were darn well going to make sure they fixed that here, and showcased lots of core centric games. Now, some of them turned out to be of a questionable quality, but at the time of the reveals, I'm sure they all seemed exciting.

Wii: NSMBWii, FFCC: Crystal Bearers, SMG2, The Conduit, Resi Evil: Darkside, Dead Space: Extraction, and Metroid: Other M.

DS: Kingdom Hearts: 365/2 Days, Mario & Luigi: BIS, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, COP: the Recruit, and the announcement of Zelda: ST (though no trailer for the last one).

I remember 2009 feeling like "a whole lot of Mario". And it marked the final appearance of Cammie. Other M was a great way to end it though (if only we knew then what we know now). A pretty solid year. But nowhere close to E3 2010, which kicked of with a new console Zelda reveal (shame about the interference) and ended with the 3DS reveal. BAM. And so much in between!

For some reason I always remember Spirit Tracks having a full trailer shown at E3. Seem to remember thinking it was some weird train game before seeing a Link..... but I assume I must have just watched this video when the first trailer was shown at GDC....
