You all lied to me! You said that demos would been in Best Buys today and there wasn't one in mine! I hate you all!
Well okay I'm kidding, but I'm still disappointed. I thought a Wii U demo would be at my local Best Buy today, and I even had my mom with me so I could show her how the system works (I've been explaining to her about it, but showing it would be a lot better). But sadly it wasn't there yet. They said the Nintendo people will be there soon to set it up, likely before the week is out, but still I'm rather sad at the moment...
Think of the feelings after hearing from a Best Buy employee's mouth, "It's on display at our other location." Calling, and the lady saying "Yes, we have it...just waiting on the Nintendo rep."

Called 4 gamestops and 2 best buys near me in West Virginia, and nothing. What's the deal with some sites saying they were supposed to have them yesterday? Got me excited. This is West Virginia though, so who knows if we will ever get them.

99% chance that they probably think you were talking about the Wii...lol
No, this guy was smart. He knew I was talking about Wii U and not Wii (after all, there were two Wii demos in the store already, so he'd be really stupid if he told me otherwise).
This is my lucky day! Found one at a Best Buy close to where I am and was stoked to test it out. Unfortunately for me, only Rayman Legends was actually playable. The other demos were yet to be set up, but I did get a feel for how the system works, and how heavy the controller is. To my surprise, it was pretty lite and didn't cause me any trouble in holding it. And Rayman Legends is going to be a definite buy for me when it comes out, it used the controller so well.
And to show what I say is true, pics taken on my 3DS.

It would be the most awesome thing ever if the demo in my store ends up having Pikmin 3 for a demo as unlikely as it is. I'm honestly surprised that Rayman Legends is a public demo though, one would think it'd be Nintendo Land or NSMBU.
@Applejacklove
Well done! It's great to see that the Wii U is starting to get in-store demos. Did Rayman Legends play well?
I foresee what you'll do there.

I'll try to explain to the best of my ability.
First off, Rayman Legends played excellently, better than I was expecting it to be. And yes it was in 1080p resolution, so big win there. They used the controller in some pretty good ways. Sadly, the Nintendo rep didn't bother to set up the Wii Remote, so all I was doing was single player through the gamepad. The controls were smooth and responsive, and I didn't notice any lag on the gamepad screen when I was playing. The first level was pretty ordinary to begin with, but then once Murphy got involved it changed my complete control to him, and had the viking girl character I was using go on autopilot. Pretty much what you saw in the trailers for the game happened then, sliding platforms for the person to cross, twisting the gamepad to twist the wheel to have them safely get to the top, Destroying fireballs with the touch of a button, etc. It was pretty fun to just do it by myself, but even better if someone else was doing it with me. The other level in the demo was Castle Rock, and while it didn't use the Gamepad in any unique way, it was super fun. It was basically a rock and roll number that played in time with the platforming actions you had to perform onscreen. I hope they have more of those in the final product.
Secondly, the Wii U demo unit had a bunch of different games on the gamepad screen that you could cycle through, though none except Rayman's demo was playable. All the games however did have a trailer that was able to be viewed on the TV, except Assassin's Creed 3. For that game they only had 2 static screenshots. The Best Buy employee I talked to said that the Nintendo rep said that the demos for the other games would download automatically onto the system once they became available, so New Super Mario Bros U will have to come later I guess. And sorry to say, but no, Pikmin 3 was not displayed in the upcoming games, though maybe the're different at other Best Buy's, but I doubt it. Other thing I noticed is that, in the trailer, Mario looked to be running in 1080p, and looked crystal clear.

Just got back from Disney World. No demo units there.

1) Different stores are going to get their Wii U's set up at different times. With Best Buy for example, the store receives a bunch of parts that go towards crafting the Wii U, but many of the internal components are not included. The internal components are sent to Nintendo representatives, who will come to the store and install them. If you're wondering what a Nintendo representative is, its the people who demo new games and consoles to the public, usually in a retail setting. If you've ever been to a Best Buy or Gamestop, where somebody is demoing a 3DS, or a new game (for example), that person is a Nintendo representative.
Nintendo reps have already received the "Wii U internal components", and they are slowly travelling to different stores to set them up!
2) The games available for demoing change. From what I was told, the systems update every evening (not sure if that's through wifi, or the system just cycles through available games every day).
I know one of the top Nintendo reps within the USA, so I get some inside knowledge every now and then. I'm actually heading to my local Best Buy on Friday to help him/her setup the Wii U for public demoing
