Maybe four captains will only be available in Challenge or multiplayer mode, while 3 will be playable in story with, with the taller green haired captain staying with the ship during story mode. Who knows.

omg i hope there is atleast a vs mode but i would also love a co-op mode so i could play withs my friends and bros. 2 things are that A. i think it would be easy to make a vs online mode but B. nintendo hasnt made a lot of online games and when they do it typically lags. If you ever play super smash bros brawl you know what im talking about. They should make a vs and multiplayer like black ops 2. Where you have single, multi, and challange modes and the same kind of online mode. Nintendo just dont mess this game up with Only single player and challenge mode...
@montauker For the record Nintendo has gotten why better with how they handle online services. Actually I think Brawl was among the last games made before Nintendo stepped up their online connections, since Mario Kart Wii, which came out a few months later, rarely had problems with online (at least in my experience).

The online was very good. i dont think i had a single problem with it but the thing about pikmin 3 is that for a vs mode i would think that it would would lag a lot if it could have 4 players and higher because you could have 400 pikmin with 4 and same thing if u had 10 players could have 1000 (that would be so fun tho). If they did make a vs mode they should at least make it with 2 people. Now back to the question... will nintendo make online or not.

Yeah no just put a limit on how many pikmin each player can control. Games like star craft and the dynasty warriors titles invalidates the PIkmin can't have any major online multiplayer components.
I think it just comes down to the point Nintendo isn't where they need to be and Miyamoto doesn't care for it that much.

If nintendo has the game online with pikmin 3 AND you can use the wiiu's mic the online feature could work and pikmin 3 would probably have the highest rating (game of the year). Also they sould not have a small limit as in 20 pikmin a player because then it wont be that fun with only 20 unless there was a upgrade system with the game or a survial mode where enemys come at you (defend the base or a zombie like mode). Also now that i think of it pikmin 3 should be able to get about 500-2000 pikmin since wiiu is really just a computer. Lastly i think Miyamoto does care. Maybe not about online or he does but we dont know. Also in the pikmin 3 trailer we dont even know if there is a story mode because it seems as if it is just a challenge mode or something else. We have no idea what pikmin 3 has in store for us other then 2 new pikmin rock, and the flying pink pikmin and the new characters. Also we dont even see olimar and louie at all.
We will just have to wait and see...
Also makers of the game, directors and so on maybe reading what we are saying and could be making a online version or not (which hopefully they do read this and make it online).
Ok last things before i get off for tonight. A. stupid release date August 4th. B If i can play star craft 2 on my comp and the wiiu is a comp then that means pikmin should be online. And lastly C. Im guessing that there will be all of the characters from a to d.

I'm not convinced of that assumption. No one at Nintendo has said this is why Pikmin 3 has been delayed, and the fact that all of Nintendo's Wii U games have been delayed so much is indicative of something bigger going on internally at Nintendo.
@montauker I think there being more unknown pikmin types is definitely a possibility, but I'm highly doubtful that we will get online multiplayer. Nintendo is far too conservative (in a fiscal sense) to spend all the money necessary on development and servers to get that working properly in a game that's single-player focused anyway.

I don't necessarily disagree, but Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon exists, which is like the least likely Nintendo game anyone was asking for multiplayer from.

There's indeed a big problem inside Nintendo. The Wii U was released with a very bloated & buggy OS. They have plenty of chances to fix it soon yet it took them half a year to start fixing the the problem. We'll also have to wait until summer to get the full fix. Their top tier game got delayed & not just delayed but delayed close to a year instead of the promised launch release. Some of their 1st party games doesn't get release until Q4 & beyond.
