While I absolutely love Nintendo, the recent news about how they are handling their online for the Wii U seriously bothered me. I play online with my friends in other states all the time. Because of that, we unfortunately can't play in the same room. The fact that they don't have cross-game / in-game chat or a party system is a huge problem for friends playing online. Maybe we have been spoiled by Microsoft's online, but Nintendo is seriously lagging behind. Anyway, I've created a petition to send to Nintendo to express to them the importance of online. If you guys care, please sign and please spread it around. I'd like enough signatures to show that this matters to our passion for the console. Also, if there's something I'm missing from the petition as it pertains to online play, please let me know. Thanks guys!
Even if somehow you manage to get 10,000 supporters the aim is vague at best, and the Wii U has already been finished - any major functionality changes would have to wait anyway.
What's missing is why this petition shouldn't be ignored like the many others fans have put up against Nintendo. Hate to be the pessimistic one, well not really, but this isn't gonna do much.

They could add support with a firmware change. If the aim is vague, then maybe I should work on the wording.
I understand the pessimism, but it doesn't hurt to try. All it takes is a signature. I'm hoping that enough people either sign this or create their own petitions that Nintendo listens. Maybe I'm optimistic, but can you imagine a Nintendo console with great online and third party support? We're talking a thing of beauty here!
We hardly have anything concrete on the Wii U's online system, and nothing substantially worrying has been stated by any developers on the console. Why don't we actually wait for the Wii U to come out before we start a controversy on something we currently know nothing about?

We do know that the Pro controller doesn't have a place to plug in a headset, and that voice chat on the WiiU is way overcomplicated. That does show how highly Nintendo regards online on their system, at least in the hardcore multiplayer venues.

@moomoo: There's a confirmed wireless Wii U-compatible headset available on the market for $89.95 (the average for any top-range headset, including wired Turtle Beach products).
And outside of in-game voice-chat, you're able to use the GamePad's in-built microphone. It's been demonstrated with video-chat outside of gaming (Miiverse, I think) so it's likely you'll only need a headset in-game. But no official statement from Nintendo on this entire matter has been given.
In my opinion, I think Nintendo did a fairly good thing. I think they're trying to restrict just everybody setting up shop and yelling obscenities over their GamePad microphones from day one. There're enough immature people with headsets as it is, let's not let every 12-year-old Black Ops II player be able to join in with the Wii U.
@GameLord08 Agreed. Having everyone yelling into the GamePad microphone would just be a headache-inducing mess (it'd be like Wii Speak but everyone would have one).
By forcing people who actually want voice chat in their games to go out and buy a quality headset to do so, we might be able to actually have some decent voice chat in games.
I've actually just re-thought this whole in-game voice-chat matter. In actuality, I really think Nintendo's alleged decision on this part of the online system's really good, if it serves true.
Not only are they inadvertently slightly improving the quality and security of in-game voice-chat by forcing people to buy a headset to use to chat while gaming (only people truly serious about this function will be swayed to buy a headset, therefore reducing the amount of juvenile ninnies in online games), but they're also expanding the market for third-party electronic manufacturers. No doubt, people are going to want cheaper, wireless options than what's currently available for the Wii U, so more companies will be willing to produce these products compatible for the Wii U to the public in a guarantee that they'll be patronised. I bet you, if this is the case, within a month we'll see a range of quality $30 Wii U-compatible headsets available.
It's a business opportunity; Nintendo's supporting the consumer electronics market, in return for their own support product-wise. It's a win-win all round.
Please feel free to advertise your petition all you like via your user signature. Good luck to you!
