Um actually very originally since the original metroid predates just about everything else 80's???

The ideas already existed in movies and books before 1986.

Currently playing: Rune Factory 4, Batman: Arkham Origins (new game plus), Valkria Chronicles, and Uncharted 2.

Ok lets begin with- @pesty : even I can't say that the ps n xbox don't have any games-- skyrim is to me one of the best games in the world. Gears of war.. god of war.. uncharted.. assasins.. metal gear..lbp..resident evil
@8BitSamurai : all "classics" in my book lol
@Sony_70: the reason sony will release 6 platformers before N is because N actually takes the time to make their games good!

The term platform is too vague.. when I hear platform I think 2D side scrolling - mario. Rayman.
And I think Ubisoft is today's Capcom back in its prime (80-90's)
Rayman is unbelievable
Halo is metroid prime
Assasins- metal gear - the whole third person genre is thanks to metal gear and resident evil

sorry maybe I should have made platform more clearer. I'm talking platform games as in Mario, Sonic, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot etc. old fashioned jump up and down on platforms collecting items. I wouldn't class gears and god of war as platform games.

My Wii U has rejuvenated my faith in Nintendo. Big thumbs up...

You said Halo was unoriginal because of the basic ideas of the aliens, space, and suits. I'm saying those ideas existed before Metroid. If you think such basic things are important to being original, you have to take into account those basic story foundations already existed. Halo used the same basic space, aliens, and suit foundations that have existed for ages like Metroid did. Nintendo didn't invent the foundations for Halo. The gameplay is completely different too.

Currently playing: Rune Factory 4, Batman: Arkham Origins (new game plus), Valkria Chronicles, and Uncharted 2.

That doesn't make you a fanboy. Defending a company in all cases no matter what the issue, and trying to deny every time the company makes a mistake - despite your own judgement, does however. Sound familiar?

Actually, Nintendo published 2 M rated games on Gamecube, with Eternal Darkness and Geist.
But yeah, Nintendo doesn't really focus on M-rated games all that much.

Also, if I could interject. Sakamoto has come out and stated that some concepts in Metroid was based on the movie Alien.

To blessed to be stressed.
I miss Japanese games, the good stuff... Games that are imaginative, have good and unique gameplay, a great soundtrack, and replay value.

Ok this made me laugh hard. Nintendo discovered internet and how. Check internet forums, many people are experiencing errors, issues with miiverse, the eshop, etc. Hope they learnt from their mistakes in the past: mario kart taking ages to join an online group, being kicked out if someone cheated cause they were being kicked out, super smash bros brawl not working like it should (everything was slow motion). Was this my internet? No. And neither the internet of thousands of other people.

Also it's outrageous for them to release hardware that isn't ready for release. The wii motion controls (and especially the problems with it) ruined zelda skyward swords completely. On top of that the Wiiu needed a long update on day one already and ok I can forgive Nintendo that but what about the lack of games? And before you start summing up all kinds of awful games that no real hardcore gamer born in the SNES era wants to play: I am not talking about any games but about GOOD games that were made with a lot of passion and that took great effort.

I'm gonna stop whining here. Really mad because of all of this though I'm already working my booty off cause I'm gonna buy 8 games in 2014. So yeah Nintendo, I forgive you. Just take my money.

Nintendo's 8th gen problems are because of the Wii.  The Wii sold 130M units.  A lot of it came from their great price point.  But in order to reach that price they had to forgo 2 key things (possibly more) that are now coming back to trouble them.  That's HD game making & online infrastructure.

Part of what made the Wii's price point so attractive was not focusing in on, or pursuing a rich online experience.  Which meant they didn't have to invest in a hearty online infrastructure.  They also didn't invest in the HD experience.

Now they have to invest in these things, which are cheaper, but you can't put a price tag on the 7years of experience your competitors have on you.  More importantly, Xbox, PS, AND 3rd party pubs & devs all went through the ups & downs of online & HD gaming TOGETHER.  Some exceptions like pubs & devs making pc games & Microsoft being in the pc software business.  But none of that will help nintendo out.

So your getting wiiU owners with online connection problems.  Your getting Miyamoto(sp?) saying HD games are harder than they first thought.  All that's to be expected & should have happened in 2006.

Furthermore, it should be troublesome when Miyamoto(sp?) says they thought HD gaming was going to be easier because I wonder if they built their hardware based on how hard they thought HD games were to make.  I dunno.  Thoughts?

This is actually a very valid point; it makes sense to look back a ways in truly deciphering the origins of an idea. While tangential to the whole issue of what company launched which concept in particular, it establishes the whole argument as unimportant, really.

Miyamoto on his desire to focus more on the (hard)core Nintendo fan.

[The casual] attitude is, ‘okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.’ [...] and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing.
