Ah ok I was mislead by the actual time I got my copy, since it had to be shipped and didn't get to me until the new year. It's actually weird checking the dates on game releases and noticing that they released on different dates than I remember.
Maybe not- there might be a lot of Wii/Nintendo fans who haven't made the plunge and would just like to see more titles. That said, given the resources of Nintendo, I'd rather see something else like Metroid, Star Fox, F-zero or a new franchise all together.
That doesn't seem like a good idea. Luigi Mansion 2 was probably bought by everyone who was interested in it and a remake of GC original won't set sales on fire, because it did ok only due to the lack of games on GC launch (I got Rogue Squadron myself).
New game could do really well if it integrated a smart online multiplayer, deep miiverse interaction (taking pictures of the mansion, snapping ghosts doing stupid stuff) and depth to all of its gameplay aspects (customizable Poltergust, lots of side missions, custom obstacle courses for multiplayer).

But they Never called It Dark Moon Wii U when they asked. They called It Luigi's Mansion HD.
If true, it should be a remake of the GC game. I agree that Dark Moon is very handheldy, and also uses the 3D really well.
The original game was like 2 hours long... also this game has obviously been developed alongside the 3DS version, games don't just pop-up you know... Probs will have it's own differences.... hoping for more ghosts types if this is real... more missions too!
It wasn't 2 hours long. I easily spent more than 10 hours on it, not to mention the final boss took me a long time..
Well then... you are bad at Luigi's Mansion... ever since I was a kid when I first got it I have always timed myself to see how long it takes to complete the game... it's always been about 2 hours for me... most recent one was 1 hour and 53 minutes...
I think, if there is any possibility of this being true, it won't be Dark Moon/2 but rather the original ported in HD, similar to Wind Waker.
The original was too short... why waste money on a game that takes 2 hours to beat!? Maybe 3 hours if yo're like my little brother and don't know how to use a map or remember the map for that matter.

if so it could be true, at least it's the year of luigi and i just can't believe sm3dw is all nintendo has got for the holidays.
The only thing that has me giving this rumor the smallest benefit of a doubt is that Iwata said before that announcements for new games are going to be revealed close to their respective release dates.
