So I have a brand new 2TB hard drive that's never been used before for anything, and I've been trying to format it to my Wii U through the system settings, but I've noticed it's been taking an absurdly long time. Is this normal, or is there something I should do with the hard drive before I format that I just don't know?

Tell us everything you can about your hard drive, @DirkaDirka. I'm not super tech savvy, but for someone to properly help you, they'll need more information.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm on YouTube.

It should take a minute or two. If it isn't externally powered I'd say either the drive isn't getting enough power - you need a y-cable at a minimum or a powered hub suitable for powering hard drives (last bit is important, because a lot of cheaper powered hubs don't put out enough juice for hard drives).

Hard drives with a lot of storage take a lot of time to be formatted. So it's natural.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.
