So I am having a bit of a weird problem with my hdd that I currently have connected to my WiiU.

Every now and then (latly more often) when I start up my Wii U the console doesnt recognize that the HDD is connected and none of the content is displayed. By turning the console off and replugging the HDD and then booting the console it finds the content of the HDD again.

So it kinda works (and no problem at all with errors or freezes), but still I am a bit worried it will get more problematic with time. Anyone else had this problem?

Specs:

Seagate Backupplus 1TB.
Connected and powered with a Plexgear USB hub.

If your HDD is connected with one USB port, then your Wii U won't be able to detected properly. Use the Y USB cable so that you can provide it with enough power to make it work all the time.

Cheers.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Thanks.

I got the Y thingy to begin with, but it still didnt work for me so I got the USB hub and it provided me with enough power (it seemed) so I kinda forgot about the Y cable Hooked it up now and will see how it works out.

Hopefully for the better!

Not for the better...

I now have my HDD powered by the USB hub, which is connected to the WiiU with a Y cable (going into both USB ports of the WiiU ofc). This for some reason gave me power issues, I now got the error you get when the USB looses power and the WiiU is turned off.

Is there some kind of weird combination problem with the USB hub and the Y cable? I tried different ports of the hub with the same end result.

Edit: I just check the specific error and it is: 160-2713

I had a power problem using a y-cable. Turns out it was the cable itself. They seem to be available mostly from cheap sources, so I guess the quality is variable.

So far my second cable is fine and I don't have the problem, though I should mention that it's for a hdd that I use for my vWii, not for my Wii U files, so the power issues may not be the same anyway.

Even so, certainly worth considering trying another cable.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I have an externally powered HDD and I still have this problem occasionally.

I usually have to unplug everything and re plug to get it back. I think it's getting stuck going to sleep because it is getting shut down all the way when the Wii U powers down.

It seems to be happening less since I turned off background functions and disabled the quick launch menu.

Which issue? The error/power down or the wiiu not recognizibg the hdd?

I will try this as soon as i get my hands On a new y cable.

The one I have is with external power.

As I said, using only the hub i dont experience power issues. Only that the hdd is some times not recognized when booting up. But on the other hand when it is recognized it works flawlessly.

When using bot the hub and the y cable i get the power issue. As well as the other issue.
