Maybe the third playable character is Cranky Kong. It sounds pretty ridiculous even to me, but I think Retro could pull it off. Either that or the character he was referring to could be a new animal buddy like Enguarde.

I have some hope for this game, it does look decent. I watched my friend play it at Best Buy and he had a pretty good time at it. I recorded it so if anyone would like to see footage, we got both the mine cart level and the boss fight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFrFwJW2K2s

That said, I'm sure this will be a great game and I'll be buying it! I'm just not expecting anything groundbreaking from Retro anymore, until they prove me wrong.

Then again they have also acquired talent from Vigil Games (Darksiders), Crytek (Crysis) and Naughty Dog (Uncharted), to name some. In terms of having the talent for AAA-games.. they has it.

I wonder how the music is going to be in this game. DKCR was half remixes of DKC music and half new. Now I wonder if Tropical Freeze is going to be mostly new with a bit of DKC and DKC2 music remixes?

I am pretty pleased with the announcement of a new DKC. I like the whole idea of viking enemies. It is a refreshingly new idea.

This game looks like just a cash grab or a pathetic attempt to get sales at any cost to save iwatas job. Nintendo is not focusing on the big picture, which is to get a variety of gamers to buy the wiiu! all they are releasing are platformers, which i enjoy, but i think most people want variety. the people who buy games, particularly 3rd party games will not be attracted to the wiiu with DK tropical freeze. it looks like just a copy and past job of the wii game, with a few new characters and levesl slightly modified.

It also feels like nintendo doesnt want to invest in the wiiu, yes alot of games are coming, but they are all side scrollers. side scrollers are way cheaper to make than epic games and they dont want to invest that kind of money in the wiiu, i think they are afraid it has failed, and are just releasing the most cheaply made games now in an attempt to save it with out investing money. However if nintendo doesnt want to support the wiiu properly then why should third parties.

Anyway i hope who ever gets this game enjoys it, it looks pathetic to me

if they got talent then why didnt they make a game that would attract a variety of gamers, instead of this side scrolling garbage

Really, considering it makes far more business sense to release a sequel to a proven seller when you need sales.

A new IP or a sequel to a game that didn't sell well is not going to do that. At least not as easily as this will.

You do know that there are a lot of people who enjoy sidescrollers right? Otherwise how would New Super Mario Bros. Wii sell over 20 million copies. And it was Retro Studios decision to work on another DK game in the first place. Your definition of an "epic" or "AAA" game may differ from other people's so keep it cool man.

So now Retro is considered a terrible company all of the sudden just because they're doing a sequel? Shouldn't they be considered a terrible company years ago already when they did Echoes?

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

I was ecstatic for Donkey Kong Country Returns. This? ... I honestly don't care. I don't hate it, but I'm not looking forward to it either. I really wish Retro did something else, but I'll pick this up very cheap one day.

Doing a DKC sequal was the last thing retro should of done, it just seems too soon, what with the 3DS version of the original releasing just last month or whatever. We needed a Metroid, Starfox, F-Zero or a retro revival like StarTropics 3. But retro had unfinished buisness with good ol' donkey kong so they just couldn't let it slide. one of the weakest suprises in Nintendo E3 history! :p It still looks great, but at this point i'm far more excited for SSB U, SM3DWorld and MK8.

I am not against side scrollers I love them, however nintendo needs variety not just cheap side scrollers. They need to appeal to more than just dk fans and kindergartners. Dk should have come out next holiday season and this holiday season release metroid, Star Fox fatal frame or something that appeals to gamers who buy multiple games a year, that would help support third party development.

I think the game looks uncreative, sequels are good when they add value to game play or an immersive story.

I love platformers... reminds me of the SNES and NES days. Boy am I in luck. :) Speaking of Epic Triple A games mine was Kirby's Return to Dreamland. That final boss. Many people look for different things. Btw I doubt a Kindergartener could beat DKCR. Even I had a bit of trouble with it.

I never liked the Prime games and I don't really want Rare to go back to Metroid.

Wrong. This is exactly the kind of game the Wii U needs, in order to move units.

Games that appeal to the mass consumer sell more than games that appeal to the "core" gamer (which is why NSMBWii sold more than both Galaxy titles combined). Once the Wii U moves enough units, then Nintendo can take the risk of making games that appeal to "core" gamers.

Also, to be fair, a DKC game is a great compromise, IMO. While they appeal to the mass market, they're also notorious for their almost insane difficulty, which "core" gamers crave.

@Dev,

That was not a rocket, but a hull from a plane! I personally think DK and Diddy get escorted by plane to a prison-island or something, and they somehow escape! By the way: Destroyed planes and other abandoned pieces of vehicles seem to feature greatly in this game! Like a vehicle graveyard!

They need to sell consoles to people who routinely buy games, core games s is who I am talking about. Core gamers are less likely to choose dk tropical Freeze than say metroid f zero fatal frame or even star fo. It's sad my e business sense you don't market your son soles to elderly women because even if they got a console they wouldn't buy any other games. So dk will just attract core nintendo gamers which any of the aforementioned titled would do and kindergartners instead of people in hope get excited about gaming.
