So now Retro is considered a terrible company all of the sudden just because they're doing a sequel? Shouldn't they be considered a terrible company years ago already when they did Echoes?

I am not against side scrollers I love them, however nintendo needs variety not just cheap side scrollers. They need to appeal to more than just dk fans and kindergartners. Dk should have come out next holiday season and this holiday season release metroid, Star Fox fatal frame or something that appeals to gamers who buy multiple games a year, that would help support third party development.

I think the game looks uncreative, sequels are good when they add value to game play or an immersive story.

You do know that there are a lot of people who enjoy sidescrollers right? Otherwise how would New Super Mario Bros. Wii sell over 20 million copies. And it was Retro Studios decision to work on another DK game in the first place. Your definition of an "epic" or "AAA" game may differ from other people's so keep it cool man.

I love platformers... reminds me of the SNES and NES days. Boy am I in luck. Speaking of Epic Triple A games mine was Kirby's Return to Dreamland. That final boss. Many people look for different things. Btw I doubt a Kindergartener could beat DKCR. Even I had a bit of trouble with it.

I never liked the Prime games and I don't really want Rare to go back to Metroid.

This game looks like just a cash grab or a pathetic attempt to get sales at any cost to save iwatas job. Nintendo is not focusing on the big picture, which is to get a variety of gamers to buy the wiiu! all they are releasing are platformers, which i enjoy, but i think most people want variety. the people who buy games, particularly 3rd party games will not be attracted to the wiiu with DK tropical freeze. it looks like just a copy and past job of the wii game, with a few new characters and levesl slightly modified.

It also feels like nintendo doesnt want to invest in the wiiu, yes alot of games are coming, but they are all side scrollers. side scrollers are way cheaper to make than epic games and they dont want to invest that kind of money in the wiiu, i think they are afraid it has failed, and are just releasing the most cheaply made games now in an attempt to save it with out investing money. However if nintendo doesnt want to support the wiiu properly then why should third parties.

Anyway i hope who ever gets this game enjoys it, it looks pathetic to me

Wrong. This is exactly the kind of game the Wii U needs, in order to move units.

Games that appeal to the mass consumer sell more than games that appeal to the "core" gamer (which is why NSMBWii sold more than both Galaxy titles combined). Once the Wii U moves enough units, then Nintendo can take the risk of making games that appeal to "core" gamers.

Also, to be fair, a DKC game is a great compromise, IMO. While they appeal to the mass market, they're also notorious for their almost insane difficulty, which "core" gamers crave.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@Dev,

That was not a rocket, but a hull from a plane! I personally think DK and Diddy get escorted by plane to a prison-island or something, and they somehow escape! By the way: Destroyed planes and other abandoned pieces of vehicles seem to feature greatly in this game! Like a vehicle graveyard!

They need to sell consoles to people who routinely buy games, core games s is who I am talking about. Core gamers are less likely to choose dk tropical Freeze than say metroid f zero fatal frame or even star fo. It's sad my e business sense you don't market your son soles to elderly women because even if they got a console they wouldn't buy any other games. So dk will just attract core nintendo gamers which any of the aforementioned titled would do and kindergartners instead of people in hope get excited about gaming.

I believe Retro when they say they made what they wanted to for their "intro" title to Wii U software development. Perhaps Retro did what was good for Retro? Hmmm?? A modest first go to gain expertise and experience for a new generation AND GET THE MANY NEW EMPLOYEES SETTLED AND COMFORTABLE. Plus with their momentum from DKCR and the sales satisfaction, it was likely just a no brainer for the well-being of Retro studios.

Buuut seeing as as E3 was the end of the world in the eyes of Nintendo fans just desperate to finally hush all evil with a groundbreaking title - from who better than Retro - the likely wise and first project was not the trumpets and thunder they were sure was being sent.

But I have little doubt with this game under their belt, and the shift period of developers coming and going from Retro likely over, it will be go time. Ambition time. Set their mark on the Wii U time

That's just how I might go about explaining it anyway lol

You people do know that Donkey Kong Country is a 'core' series right? That it's always sold better than Metroid and is generally more popular than it, even with 'core' gamers? That it was the game that basically saved the SNES during the end of its lifespan, whereas the other types of games mentioned did absolutely sod all?

I think it's disturbing how people seem to have forgotten that Donkey Kong is what, something like Nintendo's third or fourth biggest series? Yes, arguably even more so than Zelda to some degree. This is exactly the kind of game Nintendo needs, since the people who buy First Person Shooters and stuff will probably be pretty happy with Call of Duty or Halo and might not care for a Nintendo system even with a Metroid type game on it.

You can thank David Wise for that, they managed to get him back to do the music for this game. So we get the same great composer as we did for the SNES titles...

This. This. A million times this! When you think about it, it's a win-win. Retro gets a good feel for the Wii U hardware and gets a chance to figure out how everything works on a simpler platformer like DKC before moving on to bigger titles such as Metroid, Star Fox, ect. So in the long run when they DO make something for a different franchise they'll already have a good grasp on the ins and outs of the system, which in turn will make for an overall better game.

And at the same time, DK is a title that will sell more then the above mentioned franchises, which is what the Wii U desperately needs at the moment.

I had the opportunity to play this game with a friend at Best Buy last weekend. It was amazing! The level sort of flowed into a 2D/3D atmosphere although the game stayed pure 2D. The first and only level I played was also SUPER long. We kind of rushed and it took almost 8 minutes with hardly either one of us dying. It flowed amazing, Diddy Kong's jetpack worked better, and was just overall very different than the Wii/3DS version. So excited to buy this game on day one!

Oh and jumping underwater... I was so stoked. With the addition of Dixie, all this game needs is kremlings and King K Rool.

What if the other character is K. Rool? Think about it. It's confirmed that the game takes place across multiple islands... what if one is Krockodile Isle? The Kremlings could return! Maybe the vikings took over every island, and K. Rool wants revenge!

That would be pretty awesome. Not getting my hope up too high though.
