Probanly some, but not that much. I don't see GTA5 coming as Nintendo fans generally aren't the type of people that like something like that and right now thats what most Wii U owners are.

I consider myself a hardcore Nintendo fan, but I also like GTA. I am pretty disappointed that it looks like GTA5 will not make it onto the Wii U, although it is not that surprising. Like you said, it probably would not sell well.

Whatever they throw at me that is good then I will buy... I'm not one of those sad souls that think every game is fantastic just because a 3rd party or western developer made it.

There is a vast amount of poop to sift through nowadays and most of it is the same from the year before... No need to waste hard earned cash on poop now or do you

There's already a reasonably decent collection of third party content confirmed for the second half of the year. Sonic Lost World, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4, Arkham Origins, Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101. I'm sure we'll hear about plenty of other cross-platform and exclusive third party content.

Whether or not that'll make everyone happy that it's "enough" is another story.

I don't think it looks like that. I think it will end up coming to Wii U.

They're pretty heavy into the promotion of it already and are only talking about PS3/360. It's definitely possible but I wouldn't assume it's going to happen. More likely not than will.... although they haven't said anything about PC/XBOne/PS4 as I understand. It would be very odd if they didn't go for those platforms either

Personally I don't understand this "it won't sell on Nintendo's platform" mentality. The truth is there haven't been that many great "mature" style titles on successful Nintendo platforms. Have people forgotten about Goldeneye? The good sales of RE4 on the Gamecube for a Gamecube game? More recently RE:Revelations sold ~700k units on the 3DS, GTA:Chinatown Wars sold more on the DS than it did on the PSP. When the "mature" games on Wii sold poorly maybe it was more because they generally weren't very good.

When you talk about Nintendo you need to distinguish between handhelds and home consoles, handhelds are much more popular and get decent third party support, their home consoles after the SNES have always lacked third party support

Except that's not what was being said and what was being said is also said about Nintendo's portables. That somehow there's this line in the sand where "Nintendo console owners" aren't "into" certain types of games. The fact that when their consoles, both portable and not, have got solid versions of "those type of games" they sold reasonably well is proof enough.

The Gamecube and N64 lacked third party support because they lacked the install base. The Wii and N64 lacked third party support because they had technical limitations without a monopoly. The Wii U is technically superior to the consoles with the largest install base right now. Third parties don't (usually) hold grudges or act out of spite. It's all about the potential for profit. They could port a game like GTA to the Wii U easy enough (harder to port down than up) and there is no reason to believe it wouldn't sell.

And definitely no Nintendo console owner vendetta against third party content.....

Yeah I agree, I only buy Nintendo exclusive games on my Wii U. (Rayman Legends is an exception)

I don't know if there will be a ton of support but I expect Ubisoft, Capcom, Activision, Square Enix and possibly Rockstar to be showing some good stuff for Wii U.

This is all so similar to the debate at the time for Gamecube, which in retrospect had great 3rd party support.

Quality is more important than quantity, but you need quantity to keep you in the game. PS2 had loads of shovelware (in addition to good games) but it gave the platform life and kept it relevant. No point having an amazing strike-rate quality wise, if you have 3 shelves at the back of the store.

Broadly speaking, Nintendo no longer understands its 3rd party relationships. It needs to either fix that, or prepare a new platform model, without 3rd parties, that can enjoy a generation of full support.

I do agree (to a point), but I can't see it happening unless Nintendo spends an insane amount of money on some 3rd party obsessed marketing campaign or just ENTIRELY funding popular games/ports. Like, Nintendo could support this game or that more, but if no one buys it despite their efforts, it doesn't matter what Nintendo does. The 3rd parties have no reason to release 3rd party games if 3rd party games don't sell. Unless you have some brilliant tactic to actually, y'know, describe, I have my doubts on it succeeding.

'It'?

I wouldn't want to quantify 'it' as in 'it happening'. What I do is see room for improvement. Also, the premise of a silver bullet for 3rd party relations - or tactic as you call it - isn't something I can debate because it doesn't exist.

I've never launched and sustained a gaming platform myself. But I would expect it to take a whole range of things to make it work. 3rd parties being a headline, not a bullet point.

What I don't buy is the situation being some kind of insurmountable roadblock that only Nintendo could have and only Nintendo must suffer. That's not because I've played plenty of 3rd party games on healthy Nintendo platforms in the past, even though I have.

That's just a common sense view. It doesn't have to be this way.

If internally there is no desire, fine they should man-up and go another way, as I posted I'm sure there are other ways for them to have a viable business making games. I'm just saying - specifically in regard to 3rd parties within the current platform dynamic - things could be much better.

Launch half-arsed, and 3rd parties will call you on it. Look at Rayman.

Nintendo no longer understands its 3rd party relationships.
