The Wii U is in a curious position right now, being held together by stellar AAA Nintendo titles on one side, and an array of mediocre and cheap indie titles on the other. Given that Activision and Ubisoft (the last of the large third party supporters) seem to be rolling back support for the Wii U minus the odd title here and there, do you believe that the Wii U has the backbone to last another 3 years in it's current position? Will Nintendo's efforts (with the odd Tecmo, Activision, Ubi, or SEGA title arriving here and there) be enough for the Wii U? Although we have some possible indie gems upcoming, the majority is crap shovelware.
Well it's fallen behind the Gamecube and Nintendo 64 in comparison, and with the popularity of the PS4 and XBO, it does raise a few questions regarding it's ability to satisfy the consumer base for 5 years.
I love my Nintendo AAA titles, but the system is suffering software wise, no doubt about that.
The WiiU may seem like it'll be "toughing it out" for the next few years if things don't change much, but I'm sure everything will be okay. If there isn't much 3rd party support, Nintendo should focus on partnerships similar to Hyrule Warriors and Sega's three game deal.
I do think that giving Nintendo IP's to non-traditional developers (like Hyrule Warriors and Tecmo) could spell success.......it's not a 100% answer, but as long as Nintendo maintains some quality assurance, such titles will probably sell well and I don't think most third party developers will shy away from such offers.
They certainly have enough franchises and eager 3rd parties to do this, so why not? I never cared for most western games anyway
It would be a nice nod to give western developers a chance though, Nintendo could do better in this regard.......Look at what Rare and Retro did with Donkey Kong and Metroid.

If there isn't much 3rd party support, Nintendo should totally avoid partnerships similar to Hyrule Warriors and Sega's three game deal.It leads to shoddy, low quality games that mess up the brand, an embarrassment compared to XBO and PS4
I do think that giving Nintendo IP's to non-traditional developers (like Hyrule Warriors and Tecmo) could spell failure......it's not a 100% answer, but as long as Nintendo maintains some quality assurance, such titles will probably flop and I think most third party developers should just port their existing games instead, like Minecraft with Nintendo themed DLC.
Not to mention Sonic Flop World and Mario and Sonic Olympics! Nintendo should really step their game up or make another console with DECENT SPECS that are on par with the competiton next time.

They don't need more stale entries from the same franchises that didn't do well enough last time. They need new franchises. (Now is as good a time as any to make some new ones). Or even one off games. Being conservative has never worked for them really.

I'd give it one more year before Nintendo calls Wii U and 3DS quits.

I would say in two years, that way the 3DS had a healthy five years on the market, and the Wii U had approx 4, which is enough time on the shelf IMO that your core audience won't feel like it got screwed over. It also allows for some of the PS4 and XBO hype to cool down. The real question though is if third party companies would return regardless.

Plus it maintains positive relations with the devs they entrust their IP to. Obviously Nintendo shouldn't have to do this to stay in the good books of 3rd parties but anything they can do to help ease the burden of supporting the U themselves will help them.
They just need somebody to sort it out with charisma. Howard Lincoln managed to get EA back on board opened Retro and the other American dev that makes such as Mini's on the Move. Got Factor 5/Lucasarts on board. Reggie has the president job he had but hasn't done anything like that at all other than downsize Retro and stop the other one from making retail games.

you do realise the 3ds is still selling really well right?
