I like to see if you think you're a hardcore gamer, a regular gamer, or just an casual gamer. To start off, I'll give out my opinion.
Personally, I think of myself as a hardcore gamer, but when I got my computer, I stopped playing video games every day, so I guess you can call me an regular gamer if you like.
These are what I think makes an casual gamer: *Someone who just started to play games *Someone who plays video games less then a week *When they do play video games, it's less then an hour *Someone who plays mostly casual games like Wii Sports and Harvest Moon.
This is what I think a normal gamer is: *Someone who plays games three to four days a week. *Someone who's been gaming for 3-8 years *When playing video games, they play for an hour to three hours. *They play a mix of casual and hardcore games, such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Sonic the Hedgehog (It's more casual then you think)
Now a hardcore gamer: *Plays video games every single day *They've been gaming for about ten years *They play video games for over three hours *They mostly play hardcore games, such as Resident Evil 4, Madworld, and The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess
Now those aren't requirements, but just my opinon on what a casual, a regular, or and hardcore gamer is, however, you can take this as a guide if your wanting to be a hardcore gamer. And you can say you like to play casual games, but plays games every day for four hours and been gaming for ten years and you would still be recongized as a hardcore gamer. However, if your not so sure if you're a casual, regular, or an hardcore gamer and your a mixed bag, I can help you sort out of what type of gamer you just might be.
by your definition, when i've got something to play, i would probably fall under 'hardcore', but when there's nothing out that i want to play, i would go back to 'casual'. i'm not going to touch on the actual games though, just the time spent and experience playing them (because everyone's got their own opinion of what is a hardcore game and what isn't).

Same here. I don't play games a regular amount of hours or on a schedule or anything. If I have a friend or two over and not enough to play a board game, we'll be Wiiing it up; or if there is a new major title out, I'll be playing it all weekend without stop. But otherwise, I might pick up Dr. Mario or something for a few minutes or play Brawl for half an hour on a weekend.
I don't play console or handheld games as much as I used to when I was younger, but I play multiple games on the computer for several hours a day. I'm a hardcore gamer I guess but I don't really like the term.

i hear ya; Dr. Mario is what I'll play when there's nothing on TV and I'm waiting for something to boil on the stove or whatever.

Been playing video games for twenty years (since the Atari days), but I definitely do not play every day. I'm a guy who's willing to give new genres a chance providing they're interesting enough. I fully support consoles like the Wii and the DS because they open the door to genres that weren't imaginable before.
Not sure what the definition of "hardcore" is (I see way too many conflicting meanings), but I prefer to think that the real gamers are those who are willing to try out all type of games and enjoy or dislike something regardless of genre or the target audience. And I really don't see how liking stuff like Sonic or Mario Kart (or even Super Princess Peach) makes any less "hardcore".
But if in order to be hardcore it means you're limited to only certain titles and I have to play them constantly on a daily basis, then I don't want to be hardcore.
If I would want to go with these ridiculous terms, I would be "hardcore". I play everything ranging from Wii Sports to grand strategies and flight sims that have 500 page manual. I just find notion pretty laughable, and even more laughable when kids whose most "hardcore" experience is playing Call of Duty 4 and swearing at XBLA come to tell me that how hardcore they are.
Hardcore ever since NES days & Genesis i loved adventure & Shooter titles then dived into RPGS (FF Paper Mario etc) but of all genres i say Shooters (space shooters from hudson Softs Star Soldier series & MUSHA) were just awesome to me.
Hardcore since SMS and NES. Always been a SEGA guy, but begrudgingly moved to Nintendo because I always loved my NES and N64 (and SEGA released SA1/2 for GCN). I also make a living testing games, that's pretty "hardcore" if you ask me...
@Chatham - this is considerably pre-emptive, but I'm working on a side-scroller currently...even a playable alpha that could provide me with meaningful gameplay-feedback is a little ways off, but I'd be honored if you'd give it a try, and summarily some feedback when that time comes.

In your defenition, i am an Hardcore Gamer. But i still consider an Regular Gamer myself, in my point of view. I play since SMS and play several times in a week, but i never got too much money for my hoobie and so i don't have too much plataforms and games (and stuff game-related) to feel "Hardcore".
