It's funny how Final Fantasy only started to suck once Square decided Sony's consoles were a better fit.
Nah, FF6 is what started the plummeting in quality. "Hold A to win" difficulty, tons of characters who can be customized in exactly the same way, massive focus on extra treasures and unlockables that only serve to make the already too easy game even easier, an extreme over-focus on presentation... these are all extreme problems the series has suffered from in its later entries, and for the most part they started there, not in FF7.
I do, in spades. I rank it right up the top, just from sheer number of hours I spent in that one.
Good to hear. My experience with the numbered games is only about an hour of FFIV and I thought XII would be a good way for someone not typically into certain RPG tropes (random encounters mostly) to get a foot wet in the series.
Then again, who knows when I'll get around to it. Xenoblade is allegedly in transit, review season is upon us, I'm still working on DQIX and just got 999 in...
I make fun of modern day FF but for the most part FFXII seemed to be really good from everything I've heard and read about it, I don't get why people think it's so bad, especially when compared to an VIII or XIII.

People tend to get upset and critical at XII for a variety of reasons, but they always boil down to the same core argument: "because it's different."
Because different automatically equals 'bad,' see.
Of course, those people then go on to go "OMFG XENOBLADE IS THE BEST GAME EVER," (or have a cry about not getting Xenoblade, if they're from the US), despite it being the exact same game as XII, just running at 10x speed, and 1/10th strategy.

Well then since I have no nostalgia or other personal investment in FF I've got nothing to keep me from enjoying it for what it is. Same with Xeno. HOORAY
Sorry if it offends but 7 was ungodly overhyped media spoon fed love of a very mediocre game a lot of people started on which created nostalgia that I could ramble on for awhile about but don't want to ruin the thread.
I'm more offended by the fact that you seem to be implying that the media loves mediocre games. If that's what you meant, then you have a deep misunderstanding of what makes things popular in first place, particularly in gaming.
No, I'm implying that a mass media blitz sold a mediocre game to people in the huge wave of WOW factor that was the PS1 back when it was the fresh thing and CD gaming was so new vs a couple decades of carts.

Again, with the 'mediocre'. Did you read his post?
And whatever point you're trying to make... wtf? Now you're saying they only bought it because it was 'different'? Why do you think the Wii and 3DS sold? I mean, after decades of playing without motion and in 2D...

...because motion gaming was different? How many consoles did Wii Sports sell?
just the main series FF7, FF9, FF2/4, FF3/6 then FF10 I guess though I rate it way lower than the others I listed not even listing FF8 since I just plain did not like it.
Obviously you're intending to misinterpret what i'm saying because you're a fan of FF7, that's fine, but no need to drag down this topic with it. I'm saying the media primed people to buy it as the best thing in playstation gaming, the must have game of the system, massive tv spots and the rest. It sucked a large new generation of RPG gamers into starting there, so they hold it up higher than objectively it really belongs. That's it, nothing with a conspiracy or the rest there with it. Not sure why you brought Wii into it, I wasn't even thinking of that angle, just marketing. I mean think years back to the Enter the Matrix game, pretty average game(some said terrible), yet it sold multi-million copies...why? Marketing.
