I've tried to get into this game several times but I just can't. I don't know I guess I just don't like the gimmick. The only main Mario game I've found worse than this one is The Lost Levels. Don't really like either one.

Oh, how I enjoyed this game before my controllers went to Hell. Haha, I bought it when it came out and only finished it last year. The ending was beautiful.
The idea for the game came about due to Koizumi's reflection on how much fun it would be as a kid to have a water backpack that you could use like a limited jetpack. He then wanted to turn water into the central theme for a game, like a giant water-park playground in Mario form. That makes me smile, as does the game. I wish they'd start more Mario games from an idea like this (phrased in the form: wouldn't it be fun...?) instead of sticking to the basic setup of Mario platforming.
"I wanted to simulate child's play. That was the first priority." - Koizumi
As much as I tried I could never get into this game, believe me I gave it plenty of chances but it just wasnt for me.
In terms of the main series of Mario games, this is definitely the black sheep of the family, for me flood was just a gimmick, would have been ok for a level or 2 but for the whole game to revolve around flood and the extra nozzles for me just isnt a Mario game.
The best way I can explain my feelings is than when you complete a level my first though after the majority of levels was "thank god thats over with"
Some of the levels were just so frustrating that it really sucked all the fun out of the game.
this is one of my favorite games ever! I liked the unique twist it had.and i loved how it ended.but the game seems to need something more. maybe since their making a Luigi mansion's 2 then hopefully they will make a super Mario sunshine 2. lets hope!
Im a big fan of Mario games :)
Im also a nintendo nerd :P
Nintendo inpires me a lot o w o
Found out that to even access the final level you have to beat the first 7 chapters of each world? That means getting through boocoo tedious obstacle courses, where you have to be a jumping/timing wizard. Looks like I'm not finishing this game anytime soon, LOL. Thank God for YouTube where I can watch the ending if I like!
Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

People don't like the parts that actually require platforming skills?
I wouldn't mind so much if it didn't take so dang long to get to some of the platform sections in question where FLUDD is taken from you, then those platform sections weren't so lengthy with so many places to screw up. And 5 lives to do it in. And screwy controls. And screwy camera angles where your view is blocked. I enjoy a difficult platformer. But, there's difficult and there's rip-out-your-hair frustrating. What it boils down to is, I think I'll go play some Super Mario Land 2.
There are parts to Mario Sunshine that made me want to gouge my eyes out. Legendary Sand Bird anyone? Or how about some melon-rolling? Those two moments and a few others, where at the end, rather than thinking "I DID IT", you thought "GLAD THAT'S OVER! GAH!", are a few of the reasons why I don't consider it one of the best games in the series. There's high difficulty fun (DKCR is a good representation of that) and then there's I-don't-wanna-play-anymore frustration.
Super Mario Sunshine is my least favorite of the 3D Mario platformers (it's nowhere near as great as Super Mario 64, or even as excellent as the two Super Mario Galaxy games, imo), but I think it's a good game (despite it having some frustrating moments)

You have no idea what your saying. If the secret levels where you have no FLUDD is bothering you and the camera angles are bothering you in those stages alone then you've never gotten very far in the game. The camera angles aren't always terrible, sure, but about 40% of the time they are. Having to re-fill FLUDD can get tedious and annoying.
Doing repetitive missions like fetching red coins and collecting 100 coins on every area could not be any more tedious. Along with that is the investment of searching for blue coins. I think I counted that 30 stars are literally blue coins. You collect 10 and you receive a star. Woopie. Not very fun.
The controls are annoying. Not bad but annoying. Yoshi dying in the water doesn't make sense. Everything is water. No Luigi. Bowser and Baby Bowser's voice acting is done... terribly. Um... that's all off the top of my head.
It may be the easiest 3D Mario ever (beat it 100% in less than a week)
Hate to be a nay-sayer, but this is just simply not true. With an FAQ and youtube walkthrough, sure. Seems like a outragous claim to make just to make random gamers respect you... Those blue coins are very well hidden, in random numbers, in random levels. There is no "check" to donote that you have all of them on any given level. If you are missing one, you have no choice but to search every nook and cranny of the ENTIRE GAME until you find it. Aside from that (and multiple red coin stars per level), this game is perfect. I havn't been that addicted to a mario game since Mario World.
