@RandomWiiPlayer Yeah, a NCP would be awesome. Add in online play then I'm good.

It had an online mode. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart_Double_Dash!!

Read the second paragraph in the "Gameplay" section.

No thats not a online mode thats LAN to allow upto 8 consoles to connect up !!!

that meens you need 8 TV's! O_O

I think there was some special hardware that let you play online or something.

Double Dash is my favorite in the series, yes. Or at least a "New Play Control!" version of it.

Or 'Mariokart Wii' as we call it.

That is an insult to Double Dash. Mario Kart Wii sucks hard.

Honestly, we don't need a second version. The same game, no new tracks or anything? Just new play control? That wouldn't sell very well. So they changed the courses, tweaked the gameplay and called it Mario Kart Wii.

As long as you had the modem add-on thing (which I think you needed for LAN play anyway) you could use Warp Pipe to trick your GameCube into going online.

I don't really care about the dual racing system. The biggest reason I keep Double Dash around is because MKW's Battle Mode sucks! I much prefer 4 player last-(wo)man-standing matches on good Double Dash battle courses than the dumb 12 player team point matches on terrible, gimmicky stages that they force you into in MKW. Yes, you can play it online, but that doesn't help when the battles themselves are so bad. They even made bad choices for the retro stages. I would've much preferred Block City/Fort (or whatever it ends with), Pipe Plaza, or Luigi's Mansion for the retro choice from Double Dash over Cookie Land, especially with 12 players.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

The double-character thing was not more than a gimmick. I'm not surprised it's not on the DS and Wii versions.

yeah, i think dd was one of the best mario kart games and a sequel would be great if they tweaked it up and added some new things. also, i agree with bulbasaurus rex in some ways. the battle mode in mario kart wii really sucks

I'd take either a sequel or just a NPC version of Double Dash!!. That game just felt so much smoother than MKW; DD also had a much better track lineup. The characters seem to also sound a lot better on Double Dash; no one sounds right in MKW for some reason.

Warp Pipe was sweet; I've spent many hours playing MK:DD online through that. Too bad there isn't a community for it anymore, though.

I did like DD very much, but the Co-Op never went smoothly with the person I played with. However, if Nintendo DID make a sequel, online would HAVE to be a included. I don't know why, but seeing people work together amazingly and pawn very good players fascinates me.

I love Mario Kart Double Dash and it is my favorite Mario Kart game. I would love some sort of New Play Control that uses the Wii Wheel and more important, have online play. And not just online play. Co-op online play. So you can go online with someone next on the couch with you, but also with a friend on the other side of the world. If you incorperate Wii Speak then it would be awesome and I can't see why it wouldn't sell.

Best local multiplayer of any Mario Kart to date. You heard me.

As far as a "sequel", I would at least like for the next Mario Kart to look closely at alternative ways to handle local multiplayer, ie. a spiritual successor to DD's innovation. Whether or not it follows the model of 2 people sharing a kart and swapping roles, something better than 4-way split screen is desperately needed IMO.
