QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

look up the games under $5 and $10, a lot of them are indie games, or games that are a few years older that should run better on lower spec machines. It is hard to know what will run, so download demos before buying if possible. Sometimes you can get demos elsewhere that were not released on Steam. So don`t just stop at the demo section on Steam. I will recommend Deus Ex though lol

@Xkhaoz If you can run the Source engine on any graphical setting (which you can test by using this deal or this one), I'd recommend AaAaAA!!! A Reckless Disregard For Gravity. It's a game where your goal is to jump off of futuristic buildings and score points by getting close to the buildings as your falling and spraying graffiti on the same said structures. It's one of my favorite games, and it's an indie title (An indie game a day makes the Activisions go away!). If your computer isn't quite skilled enough for that, than there's always VVVVVV, the insanely hard platforming game that has a hypnotic soundtrack. And when I mean hypnotic, I mean HYPNOTIC. O_O ...Moving on, there's Saira, a game made by the same guy who made Knytt Stories. However, the game requires a video card that can run DirectX 9, which, depending on your situation, might be too much. Of course, if you're looking for some "Real Games", there's always the older Prince of Persia games (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and Two Thrones), which are pretty great from what I've played. Hope that gets you started.

I second the VVVVVV recommendation, and I added AaAaAA!! and Saira to my wishlist.
Good man! Supporting the indies by wanting to buying their games! Rock on! Oh, and a word about Saira; the game ends a lot faster than you believe it to. Don't get fooled, it's still a good game with challenging puzzles and great platforming, but the plot doesn't necessarily end when the game does. Take that as you will.

@Link-Hero From what I can tell, Oblivion (Elder Scrolls 4) is more of a get-to-it game. If you don't want to meddle around with stat management and travel preparation, Oblivion is the way to go. On the other hand, Morrowind (Elder Scrolls 3) is much better if you want a "Complete" experience. I've spent over 130 hours on the game, and with most games I barely get over the 20-hour mark.
