If you don't know what I mean by this, take a show like Steven Universe or Star Vs. the Forces of Evil for example. They're colorful, fantastical, and weird, but they don't feel like they're only aimed at kids. They feel like just shows anyone can watch that are just sold as kids shows by the network.
I'm asking if Nintendo can do more games like this. Now, Nintendo has traditionaly been very good at making sure their games are marketed to as many demographics as possible. But I think we can all agree that lately they've been pretty desperate at trying to court children, particularly with the Wii U. Even before the thing launched they had a deal with a Burger King Kids Meal. Doesn't really scream "getting the core gamer" to me.
I would want Nintendo to be the age agnostic company they once were during the Wii/DS era with the NX. This also means making sure their games don't feel embarrassing to play by older folk. Pushmo is a great game, but the preschool vibe of the game is a bit too much. I'm not asking Nintendo to be a Sony/MS clone, but just make games that are colorful and zany without feeling like they were ripped from Sesame Street. Splatoon is a good example of what I want more of, colorful and bright, yet stylish and cool.
...You got Splatoon, Mario, Zelda, a bunch of VC games, Metroid, Bayonetta, and that freakin Devil's Third game...what kind of game are you wanting them to make? lol

Keep it PG-13-ish.
A lot of the games in the Zelda series are pretty much what you described (especially Majora's Mask, in my opinion). Earthbound also fits the bill really well (extremely well if you compare Mother to Steven Universe).
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I thought Nintendo always do age neutral games. The design is "colorful, fantastical, and weird" but some of the core gameplay can be challenging for someone that is older like any Mario game, Pokemon game, or Pikmin.
It all depends on what line the person draws for "age neutral". As a adult I do like those cartoons and more that's out this decade, but I know other adults who think those cartoons is childish (especially the one with the ponies). Same with video games, it all about how you look at it and if it interest you enough.
Btw even though they had the BK kids meals, a good amount of people who buy them were teen and adult gamers/ collectors. Almost the same with amiibo (mostly teens and adults). It's a odd world we live in.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

With the steven universe thing I think you mean a game that looks light hearted but has dark and adult under tones because like @kyuubikid213 said earthbound and majora mask fits really well?
With the splatoon example I think you mean games that are typically for "Adults or a mature crowd" like FPS but made to look cartoony?
I always saw Nintendo's games to be age neutral, and is something they usually try to do. I believe one of their mottos is supposed to be how games are supposed to be fun for everyone. The main issue is people pass the games off as childish based off of their outer design.
Nintendo's games for the most part are age neutral.
Unfortunately, their advertising isn't. That's the real issue. They have to stop aiming their ads solely at kids and start playing the games up to be 'cool'.
What's Steven Universe and Star vs The Force Of Evil and why aren't better examples used of something that is popular, kid friendly and appeals to all ages?
