Not exactly the RE 2 and 3 remake I was hoping for, but this could still turn out good..... right?

Also, "Even the zombies are scared..."? That's very... lame.

This is not the Resident Evil 6 I dreamed of. I really am tired of these new directions, and I'm even more tired of Capcom bringing in these mediocre western developers to work on their franchises. At least Revelations looks a little more old-school.

Mercanaries and Revelations sounds more intresting to me, although I will keep my eye on this one.

Worked out pretty well with Dead Rising, I'd say. And new directions aren't bad (just look at RE4), so long as they do it right. We have no idea what the game even looks like, so lets just wait.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

I'm not too stoked for Mercenaries, but if Operation Raccoon City really does end up giving "fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak", then I'll probably pick it up for the PC just to hunt down Leon like a dog.

@Shadx Absolutely. Capcom isn't personally handling a lot of their best selling games these days aside from Monster Hunter.

After all the fun I've had with Left 4 Dead, I can see this game being a ton of fun. I personally think the series has gotten better as its evolved, as the first game was utter garbage, the second was cleaner-looking garbage with some semblance of a storyline, never played 3 or code: whatever, and 4 would've been fun had there not been so much backtracking through empty areas...or Ashley at all. I liked 5 dude to actual difficulty....no one's ever actually been scared by any of the games in this (or any) "survival horror" series have they?

Looks like the gameplay might be fun, but couldn't they have made this into a different IP?
I don't mind that they want to make the series more actiony, but if they're gonna remake games, I would prefer it if they kept the original gameplay. (Which happens to be gameplay I love, btw)

EDIT: Ah, but if this turns out to be some sort of midquel that gives Hunk his time to shine, I would be very pleased.

Woa, what? The original RE garbage? That's one of the greatest PS1 games around and one of the strongest in the franchise, the same goes for RE2. You don't seem to be a fan of backtracking, collecting items, solving puzzles and the entire survival horror aspect do you?

RE5 is easily one of the weakest in the franchise, completely uninspired and it deviated even farther away from what Resident Evil was. And yes, the original did scare me back when I was 12. You gotta understand the genre was completely new at the time....The music, the setting, the highly detailed and realistic backgrounds(at the time) and the events taking place were incredibly haunting.

Yup, because everybody loves running through the same areas multiple times and horror-games with more puzzles than horror. But seriously though, just because you were scared of Resident Evil 1 when you were 12 doesn't mean it's still one of the best games in the Resident Evil franchise and everyone deserves to favorite it over this and RE5.

Franchises improve over time like Resident Evil 4 proved with it's new camera system and this will improve over that with it's faster, more frantic-paced gameplay and you just gotta accept that. Sure, Resident Evil 1 was good for it's time, but it has proved to be far inferior to the RE games that are coming out now. This is shown by the improved graphics, camera system, accessibility, gameplay, and pretty much everything else.

I dunno. As much as I enjoyed RE4 and 5, I still prefer the older style of gameplay. It's more mentally stimulating, you know? Plus I prefer adventure over action. Really, in my eyes, this is just the wrong direction to go in.

This.
Also, I wouldn't say RE 4 and 5 were improvements at all. They were just different, and good in their own rights.

I'm liking that trailer. I can't wait to start collecting in game Umbrella bucks so I can upgrade my weapons, like trading in my Tyrant for a Nemesis.

@WaveBoy - I too was 12 (well, I think 13, but yeah) when I played the original RE....it didn't frighten me and everything about it served to make it more cumbersome than it needed to be. Most of said frightening atmosphere was due to a lack of music or tension-building stuff right as an obsene mass of pixelated horribleness creeped out of the point of the pre-rendered backdrop that was clearly built for said enemy to creep out of. I just didn't get what was supposed to be appealing....horrible combat, 6-item inventory, most puzzles involved just having a correct item/combo in said too-small inventory, horrible dialogue....

Different strokes I guess... Personally it wouldn't go near my greatest-of PS1 list. It was all silence, load screens, and fighting with in-game limitations. I will say that the cutscene/dialogue quality raised substantially in RE2, but the central gameplay mechanics were still as slow-moving and uninviting as ever. Only thing it stimulated mentally was my desire to play a different game

Lol, RE4 was the biggest improvement the franchise ever made. It fixed the awful controls and camera. RE5 was the game that threw survival horror out the window for straight action. At least Dead Space came along and struck a balance between action and horror, making Capcom and Resident Evil look incompetent by comparison.

I never saw the camera or controls as problems, and to be quite honest, the controls in RE4 and 5 were far from perfect, too. You just had to get used to them is all.

The horror genre in general is laughable to me as with maybe the exception of the Paranormal Activity ending, NOTHING in the genre in any medium has been scary since I was like 12. Fiction = not scary.

Really? I don't think "mentally stimulating" can apply to anything RE.

I'm personally waiting to find out that Resident Evil apparently actually has some deep message in it. You know, like Metal Gear Solid, any Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog and Tetris.
