I dunno. As much as I enjoyed RE4 and 5, I still prefer the older style of gameplay. It's more mentally stimulating, you know? Plus I prefer adventure over action. Really, in my eyes, this is just the wrong direction to go in.

This.
Also, I wouldn't say RE 4 and 5 were improvements at all. They were just different, and good in their own rights.

Lol, RE4 was the biggest improvement the franchise ever made. It fixed the awful controls and camera. RE5 was the game that threw survival horror out the window for straight action. At least Dead Space came along and struck a balance between action and horror, making Capcom and Resident Evil look incompetent by comparison.

I just said they were different, not improvements, didn't I? That means that whether they're better or not depends on the eye of the beholder. Just because you didn't like the camera or the controls in the original games, doesn't mean they were broken. Like Mickeymac, I never saw any of them as problems. On the contrary, I quite liked them both from the beginning.

What's more, Dead Space wasn't scary at all. First of all, it only had a few closet scares. Second of all, you had plenty of ammo, and even if you died you just restarted from the last door you walked through. Being practically unable to die/lose isn't very scary, imo. At least when you were running around with no ammo and low on health in a mansion filled with zombies in RE, you had something to lose.

You can`t defend the tank controls; they are terrible. There is also no reason to stick with the camera system either. Technology is very much advanced enough to handle good graphics and a dynamic camera.

I could not play the original RE. At least, the gamecube as it was the first time I played an RE game. It's just freaky, especially for a 9 year old. Looking back, I wish RE games went back to that claustrophobic feeling it gave me. Revelations seems to be going in that direction from first look.

I'll defend the tank controls.
They make you feel vulnerable, why do you think Capcom as always stuck with them?

Ummm....because sloppy controls are easier to program?

Feeling "vulnerable" shouldn't have to come from wrestling an ineffective control system. That's the cheap way out.

I don't have a specific reason for why I like the camera, controls and overall gameplay in the old RE games. To me, they just feel right. There's something about them that appeals to me, and I find the games incredibly fun to play as a result. The gameplay and controls in RE 4 and 5 didn't appeal to me in the same way. They are both very fun and incredibly good games, but I still prefer the old ones. And I should add that it's not because I grew up with the old games or anything, because I didn't. As a matter of fact, the first RE game I played was the Wii port of RE 4, and I loved it.

I should also add that I absolutely love Dead Space, and for the same reasons I love the old RE games, even.
It doesn't do anything original or innovative as far as I'm concerned, nor is it particularly scary, but it just sits right with me. Everything just clicks, and as a result I love it.

This is all just a matter of personal preferences, but it seems to me that most of you can't accept that fact.

While I can't speak for the others, I will say this: Cheap or not, those are the feelings they evoke and those are the reasons I like it. Deal with it.

i love the old resident evil games, resident evil 2 will always be my favourite among the rest of them but i love the franchise as a whole no matter what direction they go in but thats just me cuz im open minded to the max and dont hold grudges over changes

as for the control system i love the classic controls if they went back that style then thats fine with me if they dont then thats fine with me too i however like that they are trying to bring back the exploration, puzzle solving brain wrecking puzzles lol

i think its perfectly fine that these younglings btw i know its weird im saying that since im 20 here dont like the tank controls because thats hardly known among the games today that they are expose too, thats why if u have kids expose them to classics first so they can apprieate it more, thats what im going to do if i do someday

I will admit, I got a fair bit of enjoyment out of Silent Hill 3 despite crappy controls. However, I can`t do that again. Too many times did I run into an enemy because your character turns so slow. The only advantage I have seen with them is that they allow you to walk backwards and still face the same direction, however that has since been surpassed by use of a better camera system (that is definitely my opinion since I have always hated not being able to move the camera or perspective). You can like it more if you want, just please keep it.

Yup, because everybody loves running through the same areas multiple times and horror-games with more puzzles than horror. But seriously though, just because you were scared of Resident Evil 1 when you were 12 doesn't mean it's still one of the best games in the Resident Evil franchise and everyone deserves to favorite it over this and RE5.

Have you played the Gamecube remake of RE1? It's a huge improvement over the awkward, polygonal original [although the dialogue still retains some cheese]. It's quite chilling in places, too.
