They complained that the original reboot, which was released on Xbox, PS, and PC didn't meet sales expectations, and now they're they're making the sequel an XBox exclusive? Square-Enix's upper management needs to be smacked a few times with the clue bat.

I really enjoyed the reboot, but if they don't want my money, oh well.

I think Jim Sterling's episode about Square Enix is pretty accurate. Just to warn you it's NSFW due to language and images: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/9617...

Yes, it was a dead IP. The publisher wanted nothing to do with it.

The publisher was Sega. Sega also published Colonial Marines. Can we really trust their judgment?

I've never trusted Sega's judgment, but the point stands that without Nintendo's involvement, Bayo would still be buried under a pile of crappy Sonic games by now.

I think this is funny to a point. All the Sony fanboys are up in arms at this yet when Square did the same thing to Nintendo with Final Fantasy 7 it was ok. The only thing I dont like about this is that Square isn't looking at the whole picture here and in fact any 3rd party company that does this isn't. How much money and support will they lose now from owners of the other consoles?

I wouldn't call it a dead IP then. They had a bad publisher.

I thought about that too, but I think that was a good decision to Square to make as a company. Everyone was jumping on board with the PS because of CDs. It wasn't just that they had much higher storage capacity, but they were also much cheaper to produce and distribute.

Here though, I just don't know what SE is thinking. Tomb Raider sold much better on PS3/4 than on XB360/1. Why jump on board with the underdog? They may as well have made it a Wii U exclusive.

From a gaming perspective, the XB1 is looking much better than the PS4 right now (my opinion), but the sales numbers don't really back up this decision on SE's part.

Well microsoft thinks by having this game on their, peoplewill have to buy an Xbox one, just to play this game. That's not going to happen though, some hardcore fans will buy the system to play it but the rest nah.

That's not why the locked it up, they did to bolster thier line up and make their console look mre appealing. Its the same reason why we heard so much of the phrase console exclusive debut.

They are thinking with their wallets that is what it is. It had nothing to do with who's top or underdog MS was willing to shell out the most money so that is who they went with. Plain and simple. Greed can overcome anything.

Is not going boost console sales cause, people think the game will come out for PC eventually. And in there mind why would buy a new system to play a game if the game is going to come out on PC in the upcoming years. But who knows it might now happen, and then the hardcore fans of series will have to buy the Xbox one just to play this game.

Although I think this decision will hurt the game's sales, it's a normal business transaction in the gaming world. They'res nothing unusual about a console maker flinging money at a publisher to get an exclusive (or timed-exclusive) game.

The reactions of Sony fanboys at other gaming sites are hysterical. Reminds me of 2008 when Final Fantasy XIII was confirmed for the Xbox 360.

And that wasn't even exclusive

You forgot to mention how Square Enix expects it to sell 10 million copies, then will be disappointed with everyone else when it doesn't reach that number

You forgot to mention that they are a company, you know, the thing that is there to make money. You also forgot that Tomb Raider costed 100 mln dollars, which looks ridiculous (and like a bad management of resources). So yeah, from the money perspective, 5 mln was an minimum to make it even/little profit.

But you are not the only one - most people forget about that or don't give 2 craps about how much development of something costed.

This argument doesn't really paint the company in a good light. Square Enix purposely poured so much money that it had to sell 5 million minimum?

Square will be well aware of the PS4 hardware figures compared to the Xbone hardware figures. MS's offer would have had to outweigh the loss of PS4 sales for them to do this.

I wonder if they poured just as much money into this exclusive. They know what they're doing, right?

It's more of a statement and increasing the lineup for MS then sales and it clearly worked PS fans are going mad at this.

It doesn't. They're not evil or whatever because they want their money back with 5 mln sales. It's all about bad management and overconfidence in the power of the franchise. Without them, there would probably be no Tomb Raider or any other Eidos game (because at the time of the buy out, there were in pretty bad position).

It's all about being stupid with the money.

This exclusive won't cost as much - the engine is ready and the development time is much shorter (2-3 years instead of 5) and no takeover/buyout drama.
