Really? I bought a used copy of Shadow Wars 3D less than a month ago and it came with a case and the manual too.

I don't know I guess it's not true. Maybe just DS games?

Just for you.

@TeeJay: years ago I heard that if you were to stop them when you see them doing that and ask them for a plastic-wrapped new copy, they would give it to you. if i were you, i'd try that next time you see it happening, and if they refuse, try taking your business elsewhere. In my area, you can usually get new games at Wal-Mart for two or three bucks less than GameStop anyway (the only problem is finding them at W*M, lol; their selection is somewhat limited).

Walmart's protection plan is terrible. They make you call an outside company and mail them your defective games, you can't just exchange them in-store.

Best Buy's protection plan is great. They allow you to exchange a damaged game in-store, and they just give you a new copy. I buy all my disc games from Best Buy, because whenever a disc gets scratched, I just go to the store and exchange it for a new one.

@tendoboy1984: GameStop used to have that too, same as Best Buy where they charge you upfront a few bucks to replace your game if you damage it...or you could just try not scratching your games. It isn't hard, my games don't have scratches. Thought, it must be hard to not damage your game discs with pincers for hands.

I've seen on other websites that there's no way out of this PR s***storm for GameStop, but I know a way, it's really good too, but alas, I'm not interested in giving away free advice. Also, it's freaking GameStop, it's doubtful they care about negative publicity anyways.

Best Buy doesn't charge me anything to exchange damaged games. And the games get tiny scratches from the Wii's disc slot, the fabric covering the slot causes them.

that's not what their return policy says (and same for returning items purchased from Walmart.com, you can just take it to any store)...

If the game is opened and gets damaged, Walmart's protection plan states that you must call a 1-800 number (which belongs to a third-party vendor) and set up an exchange that way. They won't allow you to exchange an OPEN game in-store. I asked plenty of times, and I also work there.

After setting up your repair over the phone, you mail in the disc to this company, and then they either mail you a replacement copy, or they refund your money (Walmart gift card).

Pre-recorded movies, music, and computer/video game software and circuit cartridges must be returned within 90 days in the original and unopened packaging with a receipt to receive a refund or exchange.

@tendoboy: you're talking about something completely different than a 'defective game', then. what you're describing is if you scratch the game yourself, but an honest-to-god defective game is one that's messed up as soon as you open it (e.g. the scratches or problems were there before you had a chance to have caused them yourself). Wal-Mart (and any other retailer, i believe) will exchange defective games (within their specified guidelines, of course), but games you messed up yourself are another story.

edit: very cute, I can play the quote game too. You forgot this codicil to that particular guideline:

If the above-referenced items are defective, they can be returned within 90 days with a receipt and the original packaging. Defective units may be exchanged for another unit of the same title.

Even if the game is open, they won't let you exchange it. Walmart has some stupid policy about copyright infringement, they think if the game was opened that it may have been tampered with. It's supposedly a law that was passed a few years ago. I mentioned to them that Best Buy and GameStop allow you to exchange opened games in-store, but they wouldn't listen to me.

Post the whole statement if you are going to post it tendoboy.

It sounds like the Wal Mart you work for is playing tricks on you.

I work at Walmart, and I've seen instances where they would refuse an exchange if the game was opened. They state it's part of their return policy. For their protection program (extended warranty), they tell you to call a 1-800 number to set up a replacement and mail the disc in.

@tendoboy: Well you're Wal Mart isn't playing by the rules then.

(a) we're not talking about the protection plan or whatever, just straight up defective-item exchanges. i think there's a bit of communication error going on :/

(b) 'i've seen instances' =/= they'll never let anyone do it — i've never had a problem returning anything else to Wal-Mart before, and I'd raise hell knowing their return policy explicitly states that I can do something and then they turn around and try to tell me I can't. have you considered that there may be other issues regarding those particular individuals and their history of returning items to Wal-Mart?
And don't tell us again that you work there and they won't let you do it, blah-blah-blah — no offense, but i know from working retail myself that working in a store means you'll get a percent off merchandise and other little perks sometimes, but you can't do everything a normal customer can do because you're not one of them anymore.

I have a little pamphlet they gave me when I set up the protection plan for a few games I bought. It states:

  • Submit a product replacement claim online at productassist.com/walmart or call 1-800 blah blah
  • Return the failed product to your local UPS with the provided shipping label
  • Replace using the attached card to buy your new product in the store or online

@tendoboy: for the nth time now, we're not talking about the protection plan. just straight-up defective video games, which Wal-Mart's return policy clearly states may be exchanged in-store.

Then you misinterpreted my original post. I wasn't referring to defective games, I was referring to their policy on returning games that have been damaged.

you said that in reply to me when i suggested Wal-Mart as an alternative to GameStop if TeeJay wanted games sold in their original shrinkwrap (as opposed to being sold an opened game as 'new'). I replied, and fifteen or so replies later, here we stand.
