I know there won't be much replies but I became a fan of the Fallout series with Fallout 3.
I know many Fallout veterans will say that Fallout 3 sucks but to me it was a different genre and different type of game i never really played before. Sure the Graphics are outdated but they nailed the atmosphere and the rag-doll is pure awesome. Blowing the head off the many enemies in this game has never felt satisfying and thanks to the rag-doll physics,at most times the death animation will be different. For example,if you encounter a human or super mutant on a cliff, blow its head off and watch it tremble and bounce downhill.

Anyway I loved Fallout 3 but lets talk Fallout New Vegas.
Many complaints of this game is that it looks to similar to Fallout 3. That is understandable and is sure to turn people off from New Vegas, however there are many game sequels, but most times they will use the same engine to get the game out faster.
Sonic 2 looked like Sonic 1. CoD:WaW looked like CoD4 and even used the same engine. GTA Vice City looked like GTA 3 and so on.
I don't think it is fair that Fallout New Vegas should be bashed for being the same and using the same engine as Fallout 3. Graphics in the Fallout series were never spectacular and never were intended to be spectacular but the atmosphere really made us ignore the graphics. At-least most of us it did.

Anyway I am sorry about the big wall o' text.
It's out next month on the 19th for America and 22nd for Europe.
So who here is gonna buy New Vegas?
And do discuss what you hate or like about the game already.

(And please, can we ignore how bad my grammar is and how my opinion sucks. I like a nice discussion about this game and what you think)

Oh yeah they did say they were aiming for a more colorful experience. The Skies are more blue and clear.
And the New Vegas Strip is up and running. (The bombs didn't hit Vegas that far off so they can still maintain electricity)

I didn't play Fallout 3 (despite it being a game i know i would love), but i think i'll end up picking up New Vegas, depending on what other big/deep games i'm playing at the time. Definitely looks awesome.

I got Fallout 3 for about 20 Euro used. It's really cheap now and there is a Game Of The Year Edition out now or you can download each Mission pack for 10 Euro each. (The mission packs are not short. They are new fledged adventures, think GTA 4's episodes from liberty city)

If you get the game, come report back here on what you think of it.
Also,Fallout New Vegas has completed development it has been confirmed. They are now fixing up some bugs and error's.
Fallout 3 was known to be buggy sometimes and since New Vegas uses the same engine,I expect some similar bugs in New Vegas but hey, they have a month to clean the game up!

I was actually going to borrow it (Fallout 3) from my friend (or d/L it now that i have my new 360 Slim with massive HD space), but i decided to probably just wait and go for New Vegas instead.

Sounds good to me. I know the world is dead and all, but if the game is going to look like poo as a result, I'd rather they just forget it and make it colorful, or at least somehow interesting to look at. Fallout 3 was wonderful but I burnt out on it long before getting to the end, not that I ever really care about "finishing" the game in the first place.

Does anyone want the enclave to return in Fallout New Vegas?
I hear the Brotherhood of Steel will be in it but only for a minor role.

I remember seeing the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 3 roaming the wastelands. I actually followed them and helped kill some super mutants. lol It was fun but they walk so damn slow I just gave up and went on my own.

I've been a huge "Fallout" fan since the game Wasteland.

I'm really looking forward to New Vegas. I've seen some of the videos which highlight the colorful nightlife on the strip. There's lots of lights, drunken soldiers stumbling arround, the casinos, etc etc. It kind of looks all Christmasy compared to Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is the only game for which I've ever completed all of the achievements. Between two play-throughs, and approximately 200 hours, I still haven't been to all of the places.

I'm a little bit bummed about some of the New Vegas achievements, but I guess they encourage "variety". I'm really kicking myself for not buying the Collector Edition of Fallout 3 (bobblehead and metal lunchbox) so I was looking forward to getting the goodies with the New Vegas Collector's Edition...until I saw what you get and now I'm just "meh".

WaltzElf, I actually prefered Fallout to Oblivion for reason that aren't exactly clear to me. heh

Sean007s, When I was firsting "learning the ropes", it was always great seeing the roaming Enclave units when I was getting my butt handed to me, I'd run straight for em, and they'd always "rescue" me.

I loved Fallout 3, and preferred it greatly to Oblivion for enough reasons that I can no longer see the need to compare them.

I played Fallout 3 at least a year (maybe more, I forget) after the rest of the world did, and, as a result, I felt kind of gypped out of that shared exploration with a lot of my friends. However, to the game's enormous credit, I was still able to share with them many things that they never found / didn't know existed, and they were able to do the same for me. There's no question that the game's on/off sense of morality oversimplifies what should be a complex system, but even with that limitation, I was able to carve my own path through the wasteland that hardly overlapped with the ones my friends had carved at all.

Definitely looking forward to New Vegas. Anyone who is concerned that it's Fallout 3 again...well...that's exactly why I want it. And when, exactly, did we start demanding that every sequel be a total departure from what came before?

Definitely a game that I look forward to playing eventually, though I'll probably have to settle for either playing it on my cousin's PC or my other cousin's 360 (much like Fallout 3). I have two files on Fallout 3 (one on my cousin's PC and another on my other cousin's 360), but both are basically the same in that I'm playing as the same character, spreading evil across the wastes by stealing, lockpicking, hacking and killing and have still not advanced on the main quest very much due to getting massively side-tracked by the more amusing side-quests and locating the custom weapons/armor and the bobble-heads. New Vegas is looking awesome, and I can't wait to hear more about it once it releases...

Another few questions for you guys

What karma was your character in Fallout 3 and what karma do you plan on being with in New Vegas?
My character was good/neutral and I plan on doing that in New Vegas.

What was the first thing you guys did when you left Vault 101?
I went to that small town near the abandoned school to make a deed with that girl. I killed her and looted her. I also then went up north at level 2 I think and found a Rad-Scorpion and hid from them until they found me. I'll never forget it. lol

Who is your favorite companion?
Mine was definitely Fawkes for his attitude and power. He don't mess around. Unfortunately I was out wandering the wasteland with him and he was trailing behind and eventually, about 10 mins later,he died. I was very annoyed.

I think I was good or neutral most of the game. But then there was this hotel full of snobby racists and I decided the world would be better off without them. I would assume my karma dropped then, especially since most of the characters there revive infinitely and I kept killing them every time I returned. (Co?)incidentally, this is when the game started to make me feel uncomfortable, and I quit not long after that.

I am personally not a fan of the post-apocalyptic, first-person shooter, with RPG elements genre. There are way to many of them. (Fallout, Borderlands, Rage,Metro 2033, etc.) I was never really a fan of Post-Apocalyptic games in general either. They are just to gray and depressing and also way to many of them .

Adam

I think it's a problem of definition if you can group Fallout and a Disney game together.

I had no idea there were so many games like that, but what attracts me to Fallout 3 is the open world and the character / leveling system. Post-apocalypse may be done to death, but so is medieval fantasy, so I don't see it as a turn for the worse since Oblivion. You can name a lot of genres that have a lot of games. That just means it's popular.

What karma was your character in Fallout 3 and what karma do you plan on being with in New Vegas?
I was good and my natural choices always tend to put me in the Neutral+ to Good- range no matter what game I play so I figure I'll probably be "Good" in New Vegas as well.

What was the first thing you guys did when you left Vault 101?
I got lucky and stumbled onto Megaton almost straight out of the vault. I then began my short-lived career as a scrap metal hunter.

Who is your favorite companion?
On my first play-through, I found Fawkes and Star Paladin Cross. I ended up using Fawkes throughout most of the game. On my second play-through, I used Dog Meat and Charon although I eventually ditched them both and went solo. Fawkes was too much of a "HEY GUYS LOOK AT ME!!!" kinda dude and thus was a bad-guy magnet. I prefer the stealthy approach so I think I prefer Charon over Fawkes.

I played Fallout 3 for like 100 hours in the first playthrough. Its a great game.
I don't see how it could be compared with Oblivion as i never had any patience with Ye Olde adventures in the Olde Towne of Whatever Hear Ye Hear Ye etc. I don't really care how similar they are.

For me the level of detail in the wasteland is just amazing, I can't wrap my head around how you even develop a game like that, where every step of the way carries its own story.

Strangest moments during my stay in the wasteland, (all of these are optional so no real spoilers)

Bringing Fawkes with me to the Republic of Dave, and when a little girl says "I'm not supposed to talk to people from the wasteland, Dad says they are not to be trusted", Fawkes lets out a mighty roar and completely without provocation kills everyone in the house.

Vault 106, experiments with psychotropic drugs vault. OMG. Don't forget to take the gasmask off before entering!

I agree with Adam, i would find it very hard to play as a bad guy in these games as it really drags you into the story. But please don't abandon this game.. its one of the best ever.

Karma in Fallout 3 was definitely good. I did a few evil things here and there for the sake of better armor. For instance, I killed that Crowley ghoul for the Super Mega Awesome Armor of Awesomeness (TM), but since he not only wanted me to collect the keys for him to get it, but to murder those who held the keys, and all I did was pickpocket them or otherwise charm them off the characters, I still think I came out ahead in terms of karma.

In New Vegas I'm sure I'll be a good character as well. The thing is, I end up feeling sorry for those wasteland folks. I really do. Life is obviously so hard for them, that I can't really bring myself to bring them to harm most of the time. It sounds kind of silly, but I wouldn't have fun gunning down such hopeless cases. It's too sad to be any fun. I remember I was exploring one of the vaults full of insane survivors...attacking me with pipes and switchblades when I was a walking tower of armored death. I felt bad having to kill them, even though they were attacking me. They didn't deserve it...they were just defending their little safe haven in a world that would have eaten them alive.

The first thing I did when I left Vault 101 was encounter a wandering merchant, actually. I forget his name, but he's the young one, who kind of talks like a transplant from Oblivion. It was just a random encounter, but I talked to him, got some background on what happened and what life was like...it was already pretty depressing. You'd think I would have felt less lonely running into another human so soon after the vault, but all it really did was reinforce how different the world was from what my character was used to. After that I wandered around Springvale or whatever that little town is, scrounging for bottlecaps and being shot by raiders who were sniping me from the school when I got too close. Not the most action packed beginning of a game I've ever experienced, but it was definitely unsettling.

I didn't really like the companions. I found it difficult to control them and keep them alive, aside from Fawkes, who it's probably harder to kill than to keep alive. But I did like Charon the best, I think. He was a good guy. I bought him his freedom, and just let him chill around my Megaton house, listening to my jukebox and drinking Nuka Cola. I never took him out because I didn't want him getting killed, but I eventually did pull him out of retirement to help me clean out Paradise Falls of slavers.

...and he got killed, so I reloaded, did it alone, and left him home jazzing out to Butcher Pete.

What karma was your character in Fallout 3 and what karma do you plan on being with in New Vegas?

My karma was very evil on both characters I created, and I don't plan on changing that in New Vegas. Of course, I did make a few exceptions for characters that particularly charmed me or I felt a lot of pity for (like freeing the kids from Paradise Falls and helping the slaves get to the Temple of the Uniion [incomplete still] and also putting poor Harold and Herbert Bob out of their misery). The thing about being evil is that you're never without an excess of caps and you can keep your weapons and armor in top condition, not to mention you miss out on some awesome unique weapons and armor if you're good (like A3-21's Plasma Rifle, for instance); plus, you get to hear Three Dog rag on you over the radio for your misdeeds and when you arrive in Paradise Falls all the slavers fear you. Oh, and also, it's just damn fun playing an evil character...

What was the first thing you guys did when you left Vault 101?

The first thing I did when I left the vault was head straight to Megaton and secure the room there by diffusing the bomb (instead of listening to Mr. Burke), but first I think I helped Walter with the leaky pipes and then kept hunting scrap for him (I still go back and do it every time I find a significant amount, too)...

Who is your favorite companion?

Well, given that I was evil, I only had three companions to pick from: Jericho, Clover and Charon (who I thought you had to have neutral karma to recruit, but it turns out it doesn't matter as long as you have his contract). I went with Jericho, who was a hoot to have around, with his chain-smoking, maniac shrieks as he rushed some hostiles and sarcastic remarks when you told him to wait for you. The only downside to Jericho (as with all companions, except Fawkes) is that he dies too easily, even when decked out in a suit of fully repaired Outcast Power Armor, and, of course, he sucks at stealth and subtlety. Jericho, you don't run up to a Super Mutant Behemoth screaming your head off and firing at it with a simply Chinese Assault Rifle, especially when he's like 2 feet away from you and swinging his massive fists right at you...
