I keep hearing that the Switch isn't very powerful; then I go back to playing Zelda: BOTW.

Neat, always nice with confirmation. I don't get why Nintendo never announce any specifics regarding their hardware.

I think people overestimate the impacts of this though. If Nintendo can make the Switch sell decently, games will come no matter the hardware. The 3DS is very weak, and was so even when released, but have gotten great support from 3rd party devs.

Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

@rallydefault I think it's good to have an outside opinion and a more logical view on things instead of sing the praises of Nintendo no matter what they do and assuming things that simply arent true. I dont want to see nintendo fail but I do want them to do better than they did with the wii u. I just want the switch to get more diverse games that push the limits of the system from developers outside of nintendo.

Most of the nintendo fans dont use much logic when it comes to nintendo. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to show that all of the switch games up until around fall 2017 are just ported wii u games with extras but can now be played on the go. Zelda just luckily came out when the switch was launched. For many of the fans on this site that is good enough but what about the millions of wii u owners that arent true fans. The regular consumers might view that as Nintendo reselling the same games to them when they already have a wii u. Take away these initial first party games and its a pretty slim picking.

Im not some nintendo basher coming here to hate on nintendo and tell people all hail the pc master race. I am however starting to see that outside opinions and concerns aren't welcome here. Its like this is a cult and nintendo is the religion and if you question it then you are ostracized.

I don't understand why there's all this talk about power all the time. Yeah, not as many AAA third party games, but when have people ever bought Nintendo systems for the AAA third party games? There will probably be a lot of smaller games, and if you can't handle that, buy a PS4 or a gaming PC.

I especially don't understand why the OP is even on this forum if he despises the Switch so much. Go back to the Sony forums, please, because you're clearly pretty upset that this is turning out to be pretty similar to every Nintendo system for the past couple decades in terms of third party support.

I think people are having a pretty extreme reaction to this thread due to the OP being such a rabid hater constantly.

It's all a moot point if the Switch gets games. It already has goat Zelda...

@KirbyTheVampire Its not about power its about being a console and a portable. Consoles compared to pc are already less powered and thats the generation we are in on a console stand point. The Switch is in the same price point as competing consoles as well so it would be nice to get some of the same games but might be hard given its a generation behind.

I am like supermetaldave I want nintendo to do super well. Sell many systems and have many games. Its a source of pride when your fav company does everything right.

If the switch only sells 20 million units then so be it. The system will at least have some great first party games probably just like the wii u.

Who cares? Wii U was underpowered yet put out a far better exclusive lineup than PS4 or Xbox One. Since getting my Switch I haven't touched my PS4 besides a few rounds of Black Ops 3. Zelda BOTW is one of the greatest games of all time imo. What game on PS4 or Xbox One that isn't a remaster can hold a candle to it???

I have to agree with this. My PS4 has barely been touched and its lack of games that interest me (they are there but yet to be released) has put me against buying a PS console until a vast number of games are released for it.

Whereas the Wii U has done the opposite for me and I will now try many games as a result. So long PS dry desert and hello ARMS!

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I didn't get to read everything, but I'll try to. Because I haven't read everything yet, I'm not so how "hard" or often I was personally insulted, so forgive me if I don't directly address any of that lol (maybe I wasn't at all - happy days!). You can characterize me however you want, but the fact is you have no idea who I am.

Just to reiterate my points:
I support ALL of the game companies. Literally. Xbox. PS. PC. Nintendo. I own all of their systems. I buy games for all of them. I support them all with my money. I'm a huge Nintendo fan. I'm also a huge PC fan, and building a new gaming PC is one of my favorite things to get lost in (sometimes actually lol).

That being said, the gaming community is in the trash, and it has been for a few years now. People just hate everything so much. They want everything to fail. They want to make fun of things that just aren't there. It's just frustrating.

So when I said I'm frustrated at @twindragon bringing some of that here, I was telling the 100% truth. It's not a "he's going after Nintendo! ahhhh!" kind of thing, it's just a general, "Oh god - not here" kind of feeling, because these boards, though we get a tad heated sometimes, have mostly been free of the general doom and gloom you see on YouTube, IGN, etc.

That's all I was saying. I'm gonna go back to talking about pasta in the Switch thread lol

@marnelljm Nintendo is def the leader for first party but I think Sony has some great first party as well. They just have a different rated M for mature style. God of War, Killzone, The last of us, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank. Whereas Nintendo wants to get people together to play together. Playstation for me has never been about group play.

These debates arent about how good nintendos games are. We all know they are amazing. they are more about whether or not nintendo will have the mass appeal to put the switch in more homes than the wii u at the price point and with the games they will be releasing, first party or 3rd party. Time will tell.

@twindragon as you can see, even when presented with hard evidence, many Nintendo fans will just resort to "well go play other consoles then". I'm sorry that you feel unwelcome here for your tech talk.

It's strange how the Wii U was mocked for being underpowered and yet games like Wind Waker, Super Mario 3D World and Xenoblade Chronicles X looked gorgeous, they still do, the Wii U had some great looking games. Breath of the Wild is a bad game to showcase the Switch as it's obviously not taking advantage of what the console can do, but when Super Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Yooka-Laylee or Fire Emblem Warriors etc comes out, then we'll probably see just how good the Switch can be in the graphics department.

Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to just Nintendo fans. It's a problem with the entire community. You just happen to be frequenting a Nintendo site, so you're going to see more of it from Nintendo "people." But the same exact thing is happening on boards for PC, Xbox, and PS. It's extremely narrow-minded to hint that this sort of behavior only comes from "Nintendo fans."

You also have an admirable ability to selectively read posts. Honestly, no sarcasm, I envy you. To me, @twindragon's posts are rarely "tech talk," as you say. The majority of their posts are simply inflammatory opinions that he/she knows will fly in the face of most people's opinions on this site, hence the "edgelord" comment I made earlier. He/she will use the typical "I'm just speaking my mind" defense, when in reality, the only goal is to incense and inflame. Again, in my opinion, exactly what is wrong with the gaming community.

Hmm, ya I have to go with Sony on this one. PS4 has so many amazing exclusive titles it is sick.

The Wii U was very under powered. It was hardly better than the 360 and PS3 in terms of graphics.

I think people need to be realistic. The Wii U was 5 years too late. The Switch so far is great as long as it can keep putting out fun exclusive titles. It is clearly not as powerful as the PS4 and XB1. Zelda looks beautiful, but compare it to Horizon Zero Dawn or Gears 4.

I wish the Switch had more graphical power. Zelda has slow downs when running in 900p on the TV. This means the Switch has issues when it needs to push out that extra pixel count. So it is safe to say that most games will be running around 900p and not full 1080p.

Going based on the context of just this thread, he posted his thoughts and you sarcastically congratulated him on being right for something I guess happened elsewhere. So from my point of view, you came in here and became snarky for what was a post about the specs. You brought the negativity.

Its no surprise that nintendo would bring out an underpowered console once again. I predict this will be their last one.
They try to sell the gimmick first and not specs. Which means they create consoles that will run THEIR games first and foremost. If a third party wants to join then its great if not they dont care. This time they will be doomed. Third party support is currently worse than when the wii u came out. I think they pulled a stunt with skyrim. It was an indicator that theres gonna be 3rd party support but in truth it showed that the switch was capable to be on par with ps3 and x360.

The Switch is a tablet with two dedicated controllers that runs Nintendo games. It was never meant to be more. The fact that you can hook it up to a TV is a bonus for me. For what it is (a tablet running Nintendo games) it is awesome.

Sure, compare with PS4 and XBOX and whatever. I'm sure you understand that there's no point in doing so. Neither of those are portable.

The fact that this small thing is stronger than the wii u still blows my mind. It's crazy how powerful it is for its size. Sure it means no third parties but I think the tradeoff is worth it, in my opinion.
