I'm not expecting much, which is why I think Pokemon is one of those franchises that needs a hard reboot. The series has been trying to please so many people that the structure has stagnated while the gameplay has become almost entirely focused on multiplayer.

No, no more reboots. We already had 3rd and 5th gen which both functioned as reboots, we don't need anymore. They can change the structure without needing to start from square one for a third time.

Those were soft reboots. I want a hard reboot that ignores unnecessary series "traditions" and "conventions" and really lets designers build an original games.

Of course, like I have said before, the current series needs to crash and burn hard for that to happen.

They don't really need a reboot to do that though, they can defy series conventions whenever they feel like it. I just don't want them to constantly reinvent the wheel and throw things out that are actually beneficial to the series (although unfortunately, they really love doing that).

Theoretically, they could, but I think the "main series" has basically become synonymous with stagnation. If they go too far, the fanbase won't consider it part of the main series at all.

We got sequels instead of a third version in BW2, then this gen we got the first 3D game in the series as well as an entirely new type of evolution that we even saw in a remake.

Pokemon doesn't stagnate. It just doesn't change as much of the formula as you'd like.

@iKhan: Part of it is that Pokémon has rarely the same userbase. A handful of older fans will stay no matter what, but most of it is younger kids who are new to the series. What is the same thing for many of us, is something new to a newcomer in the franchise.

I agree with you though, that's why I'm hoping for something along the lines of Colosseum. It's unlikely as well, but far more reasonable to expect.

If Sun and Moon are real, this thread will need to be renamed.

@Kylo_Ren: Chances are very low they are on NX. Like, unless they announce what NX is tomorrow or don't announce a platform at all, it is certainly not happening.

Well the unlikely happened. And this game could be an NX launch title.

@AlliMeadow: I guess they did, my bad

I guess then we don't need this thread anymore.

Not quite. There's still plenty to discuss about a potential NX game. It just won't be Gen 7, it'll be Gen 8.

@Bolt_Strike: which in my guess probably won't launch till 2019.

Title change is in order. As for ideas, Diamond and Pearl remakes after the first two Gen 8 games. I don't really have anything else other than hit any type combinations that haven't been done, assuming they aren't done in Sun/Moon (Electric/Poison I think would make for a cool design! Needs Levitate if it's gonna be any good though.)

Not quite that either, there's nothing stopping them from releasing Sun and Moon on both 3DS and NX. It again comes down to what NX actually is which no-one knows.

Kylo_Ren

Yeah, it would make sense to rename it to Gen 8 (Mods).
I think there won't be much point talking about Gen 8 with the amount of info we know about Gen 7

I think the Gen part could just be removed from the topic, we really don't know what gen would be on the NX. It could even be a sequel to Gale of Darkness

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
