So Frozenbyte just announced their new co-op magic game, Nine Parchments, for 2017 on PS4, X1, and Switch. That studio is known for Trine — another pretty 2.5D title. I'm excited for the game not only because it looks like a beautiful local / online co-op title, but also because I was let down by Magicka 2's clunky controls and overzealous difficulty. Nine Parchments looks to have a similar spell combination mechanic, except via crossing the streams cast by two mages / players. Anyone else jazzed about this type of game?
NintendoLife quoted this feature list from their press release:
I'm really looking forward to this. Don't know why it reminds me of games like Diablo or Sacred, or also old school isometrical RPGs like Baldur's Gate!
If it is any good, it's a day one for me. Great art style, seems to play with depth, co-op online... and I can't wait to level and crawl through the world.
I've always wanted more games that played like dungeon siege back in the day - just less boring and with more variety.
This seems to come close to that. It's gonna be hard to be patient for this one!
It does look fun. I wonder if you can play this with one joycon. The game looks simple enough for that to be possible, maybe? If so, this would be a no brainer.

@Spanjard I have to believe that it will be playable on every control set up (besides motion control naturally). Whenever I played a Trine release I got the impression that it was more than just an indie game, and this game certainly looks just that bit better than most smaller Switch releases (assuming the trailer is Switch footage). I think that studio could easily make a six button version of its control scheme with the title's local multiplayer focus. I also really appreciate how this game has a jump button. In a lot of top-down view games like Magicka and even most of the 2D Zeldas you're just glued to the ground unless you find a ledge, and some indie games don't even have that. That should spice up some of the MMO-y, 'get out of the fire' gameplay.
Edit: Oh, lol, apparently this game was announced almost a year ago, whereas today's video was for the Switch announcement. You can see how they've cleaned up a lot of the effects and character models, and polished up backgrounds. You can also see some of the beam-type spell interaction and spell friendly fire.
"... What if you skipped the last seven...". Imidiately after that sentence they all died instantly. That made me chuckle
That old clip reminds me even more of Trine. That game always had very nice environments, so a top down trine look alike with all kinds of madness going on the screen is awesome.
The Switch has the potential to become the most fun coop console ever, something I was hoping the Wii U would be. So more of this pls. Now it just needs that Monster hunter coop...

I didn't even notice that... jumping over enemy attacks is always more fun than just walking around it.
The game is out on dec 5th, and will run for 20 currency. The demo is out now and I really like it. I'm buying it for sure, I wonder who else has it on the radar?
Tried the demo with a friend on Thanksgiving, and we had a real blast with it. Definitely on my wish list now...
I noticed it had online way back when, I wonder if it has cross platform play like rocket league? There's never a shortage of people there because of it but I couldn't find out. This will most likely get a slow start due to xenoblade 2 which I'm anticipating too, but it's just too much fun and a lovely art style there for me, I'm definitely picking it up at launch.
I played the demo and thought it was decent for what it was. Then I played again with the levels I had just gained, and the new hats/wands that I unlocked my last playthrough, and got much further. I immediately realized how addicting this game would be once I was able to distribute stats and attributes. I very quickly went from "Maybe when its on sale" to a "Day 1 buy".
Also, now that all my hometown friends are scattered across the globe, good online co-op becomes way more imparative.
I was really looking forward to this game since the initial review. But after playing the demo I think I'll pass, unfortunately. I felt the magical combat was very boring and repetitive. The level, although looking quite pretty, was linear and didn't seem to warrant any exploration. I dunno, maybe I'm just missing something, as the concept seems like it could be fantastic.
The game is supposed to drop today but isn't yet available on the eshop at the time I'm posting this. Anyone heard anything yet?
