I'm sorry about your Switch.

I'd call Nintendo asap and set up a repair. They're responsible, and they can pay for the repair + shipping. Take full advantage.

I am still waiting on my nintendo switch...

Hope this will not become a widespread issue or a recurring theme. I mean they guy at the phone told me about some possible software issues and I fear that this issue might happen again.

Some question:

How is warranty handled in your specific countries?

Lets say you send your switch back for repairs.

The system has been repaired - will the time span during which you couldnt use the system be added to the warranty? Lets say you bought 01.01.2017, two years warranty ends 01.01.2019, you couldnt use the system for a month. Will the warranty now run until 01.02.2019?

The system has been replaced with a new one, will the warranty start anew?

wow that sux. seems you hear more stories of Switches dying out rather than their last consoles. Switch was rushed to market to please investors. and it clearly shows with so many issues and no Virtual Console and No proper Voice Chat, crappy appy, etc, i could go on.

I don't think the Switch was rushed out to please investors. I think it was rushed out because Nintendo knew they couldn't hold out on Zelda BOTW anymore. That game (I believe) was ready Holiday 2016 and was delayed so it could be released on the Switch as well.

it was rushed for multiple reasons. investor pressure being one of them. IT worked for Nintendo ( the Switch is impossible to purchase not only in Japan but in most countries) , but the quality obviously isn't quite there yet with the initial release. The system is bare as bones. not even an app for Youtube, Netflix, nor a browser.
Pretty sad the WiiU can do all of this and was able to at launch 5 years ago. Pretty sad!

I usually never buy consoles at launch for different reasons, quality is one of them. But as far as nintendo goes their quality was generally good and I trusted it will be this time as well. Well... its my first nintendo console that broke.

Its been 3 weeks now without my switch. Hopefully it will come next week. Luckily its summertime and I probably wouldnt have used it that much. Hopefully it will not happen during the holiday season. Having to wait a month to get it back would be just aweful.

Here in Chile you have one year of warranty, and if you send the console in they add 3 months to make sure nothing's wrong.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Thats at least some reassurance.
I will check it all out once I receive my console if its a new one the warranty start anew. If course nobody confirmed that

Sorry to hear about the people having issues with their Switch consoles. I have not bought a Switch, but I went through the same thing a long time ago. I bought a Sega Saturn a few months after US launch. Loved the system. Unfortunately, I had problems and the system had to go back to Sega for warranty repair twice. For some reason, it decided to start working again when Sega received it the first time, but after a few weeks of using it, it stopped reading discs again. That was unfortunate and disappointing as I probably only had the system for a short time before it happened. Luckily, after the second repair, it continued to work for years, though it no longer works. Hopefully, everyone gets their issues fixed and don't have any future problems.

@brickofthewild I've just sent mine in for repair. The guy on the phone said if they need to replace it the warranty will start again.

Which country is this if I may ask?
I called the guy in Germany. He said warranty doesnt change. In Poland however this should be the case. The guys I bought this from didnt know jack and claimed they are not responsible for any warranty

@brickofthewild Sorry should have been more specific. I'm in the UK. The process has been fairly quick so far my only concern is if they can't repair what happens. I know they don't have stock for replacements so how long can they wait till I have to be refunded. If I do get a refund am I going to have to send them all the accessories as currently they only have the tablet?

Could.be. Damn I didn't think about that shortage. So there is a chance I won't get a console at all. Lucky me I cancelled my current pre-order which contained splatoon

@brickofthewild if you get a new product, you should get new warranty (if you can prove that it is a new product, so keep receipts and emails). At least that is how it works in the Netherlands. It would not make sense otherwise, as the new product can break as well (even because of the same faults)

ACK

@Samus7Killer What are you talking about? It's all anecdotal, beyond this thread I know of no one with a broken Switch. I bought two bum GameCubes at launch that both died after a day. I got a Wii U at launch that wouldn't output a picture. I also have those systems that have been played over thousands of hours and function perfectly. There is always going to be a failure rate with electronics, even directly off the assembly line.

One thing I worry about with the Switch is whether people are blocking the vents because I see a lot of people recommending stands, cases, docks, etc. without proper rear ventilation. For instance some people shunned the docks and instead used a cable to attached the Switch to the dock and then lay it face up next to the TV while playing (needs to be face down). Not a good idea.

Its not as farfetched as u might think. There have been lots of reports of faulty switch with various issues. Besides the lack of apps is also a little bit surprising.
